Trailer harness interest??
M61A1MECH replied to M61A1MECH's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have not posted the GEN I harness to the classifieds yet, I was wanting to gauge the interest first. The harness does not "plug in" it uses "POSI-TAPS" which are minimally invasive taps that use a sharp pointed probe to pierce the insulation and reach the conductor. Much better that cutting and splicing, much better and simpler than window stripping the insulation and making a solder and tape joint and way better than those wretched blue Scotch-Lock guillotine type taps. I do make it so the Isolator/converter and the trailer harness can be unplugged and removed if needed and also give you 5 tag wires that you can splice into later for adding more lights without having to cut and splice. I have one made for a fellow member, I can take photos and post them if that would help. Here is a link to show you what POSI-TAPS are, http://www.cycleterminal.com/posi-lock-connectors.html Let me know what else I can do to help. -
Trailer harness interest??
M61A1MECH replied to M61A1MECH's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Well sometimes folks know exactly which trailer they are getting and how it is wired instead of waiting until they pick it up. That way they can have the bike pre-wired and pick the trailer up with the bike and have the lights work on the ride home. -
Saying you have too much stuff is like having too much fun, not gonna happen.

A few years ago when I started making plug and play trailer harnesses for second generation Ventures, I had several requests to make one for various first generation Ventures. Due to unavailability of the 13 pin connector required, I could not supply a true "plug and play" version. I was recently approached again an offered a minimally invasive alternative harness. I designed the system using "Posi-Tap" connectors that pierce the insulation of the needed wires, these are much better and more secure that the traditional blue Scotch Loc pinch on type you get in the trailer wiring kits. If there is still interest here on the first gen side of the house for such a product, I would be happy to offer them in the members vendor section along side my other products. They would be similarly priced to my current offerings. Please let me know either by PM or reply to this thread and I will go from there. Thanks

Prayers Requested for my Family

Prayers for your family. So sad to hear. -
Yalaha bakery works, or not far from there is http://jbboondocks.com/ in Howey in the Hills.

If there are lights on that tour pack I can help you out, I have made several custom harnesses for folks that have done the same install, one included wires and connectors for the speakers mounted in his. Many times I can match the connectors and make the whole install plug and play. See my adds in the member vendor section. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/photopost/showcat.php?cat=18

Cold snap did not bother at all, I put my bike for the winter once it gets below 72 degrees, so it has been put for a few weeks now.

Look in the upper right corner for the "Product Options", click on that and there is a drop down menu, should be an edit option in there.

If you go to Fun Machine ask to talk to Roxie the service writer, she is the service manager’s wife, tell Steve Kowalcky from Edgewater recommended them. They always treat me right. Once you get settled let me know if you want to ride with the local STAR chapter in Orlando, I can get you the email invite list for the monthly ride.

I know there are at least 4 Yamaha dealers in the Orlando/Kissimmee area, closest to Kissimmee is CENTRAL FLORIDA POWERSPORTS, INC. I have not personally dealt with them, but they are listed as a PRO Yamaha dealer, here is their website http://www.centralfloridapowersports.com/. I have been dealing with Daytona Fun Machine for over 20 years and never had any problems, it is a bit far from Orlando, but if you do not get any recommendations for the Orlando area, I know Fun Machine will do the job right.

Not to my knowledge every time I have been in their Daytona store they have plenty of metric parts and currently have metrics listed on their website.

I have not seen anything myself, but the same subject came up over on the GL1800 riders forum. The word over there is they have filed for bankruptcy protection so they can reorganize, hope it all works out, if not there are is going to be a big hole in the aftermarket accessory market.

Just for grins, if you have the means, jack the bikes up and measure the distance between the tube covers and the fender mounts with no weight on the forks. Also curious, did you check to see if the tins are the same length, maybe one type is longer than the other?

cooling fins, weather riding
M61A1MECH replied to cruiserlover's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The “dog bones” are the front supports that come off the top front part of the finned covers. We call them dog bone because they sort of look like one. -

One thing you could do is have Mike Eykamp, The Diamond Cut Guy, modify a set of fins for you, he has an add here that shows on the top banner or your can go here http://www.thediamondcutguy.com/ he does some nice work. -
Well almost, Willie Nelson, actually. And he is giving the other two older ones a hard time, he already thinks he is the Alpha cat.

You can't have just one. So we went and got another Devon Rex kitten today. So now we have 2 Devon Rex and 1 Cornish Rex again. His name is Willie, I am going to call him Willie BE (Big Ears).

Looks like everything that Yamaha should have done for the new Venture.

I rode one yesterday at Biketoberfest in Daytona, really disappointed in Yamaha's effort, it vibrates, the grips are too far forward and too wide for my liking, the floorboards are just plain ridiculous, kept getting my heel caught on the back edge. The left side cubby in front of my knee would not stay closed, had to kick it while riding to make it stay closed. Yamaha is not getting any of my money for that bike, no matter what they call it, I think they should call it a Stratosourous with that air cooled V-twin. It does have good power and the touring/sport mode is pretty cool and the electronics are good, but all of that could have been incorporated into a platform that was powered by the 1700 V-4 V-MAX engine.

True, but if you have contacts close by in the states that could mail it for you and then I could mail back to them, that would not be to bad, just drop it off next time your south of the border and pick it up some time later. -

Replacement LED tail light board
M61A1MECH replied to Raven1294's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Found one blown 180 ohm resistor and two blown LEDs, the resistor was first in that particular circuit and the two blown diodes where in series right behind it. The board is set up with one 180 ohm resistor for every 4 LEDs. There was no evidence of heat or arcing, so I am not sure what the initial fault was.
