  1. Hey at 55 long john silver's qualifies.you for a 20% senior citizen discount. How do I know this since I just turned 50? Daggum counter person gave me the discount, I have worn a well trimmed beard for decades only shaving it usually for a few days every couple of years to make sure my face was still there and confound the kids. But, I am a red head no grey on my head except for the chin area of my beard. How she could of deduced my age based on my beard, well I shaved the next day and may just stay clean shaven for the next 5 years. I doubt I can go that long but have to work through being prematurely classified a senior. I half laughed and was half depressed, when I realized what they did. My wife is having a field day with it though. Bob
  2. Ugh, guess I need to plan to check mine just acquired an 02 RSV about a month ago with 28k on it. Up to 30k now and pretty sure its not been checked. What does everyone do for shims, sounds like it is a hassle to get down to it so would be nice to have aasortment of shims if needed and not have to let bike sit, or take everything off twice. 3. I was riding I 10 somewhere around ft stockton Texas on a goldwing a few years ago, stood up on pegs to stretch legs. Just as I sat down I passed under an overpass and heard what sounded like hail hitting my.helmet and bike. Puzzled I looked down at my legs and I was coated with dead and dieing big honey bees. Must of been swarming under the overpass. Glad I had a jacket, gloves and helmet one. Really glad I sat down when I did. Bob Marshall, il
  4. I had one lane change on a commute while I was driving my 2000 insight just after sunrise. I was passing him on interstate and almost to the front of his trailer. At least he used his signals. No place to go except the shoulder. Nothing like formAtion flying and having half the wheels on wet grass. Insight has only 70 HP and twice the weight of the venture. Shoulder was clear so ended up finishing the pass. He wouldn't get within 300 feet of me after that. We were both wide awake aT that point. Had this guy caused a wreck I am sure he would have been equally clueless. Worked enough interstate accidents on ambulances to know nobody wins when the. Other vehicle is. Semi. Pleas everybody stay ShArp and act like the other guy is out to get you. Bob
  5. Speaking of karmA. Had a friend in hospital so went to check on him after work. I decided to do some wandering on the way home. Went down a road middle of nowhere that I take to go down memory lane. Houses have went down hill since I was in high school 30 years ago. Anyway, I came across this little guy, could not of been 5 years old with his tiny 4 wheel atv idling and stuck front wheels inthe ditch. He was even wearing a full face helmet, yanking on the back of it trying to get it out. Centrifugal clutch he was fighting the engine. He would yank back and it would just pull itself back on the ditch. I shutdown and asked if he would like some help, he nodded. I lifted the whole back end in the air and ask him which way he wanted it pointed. Sat it down and held it while he got on. He zipped off back into his yard merrily doing his laps around the house. You know what, the little guy didn't even wave Bob Marshall, il
  6. No fringe on this bike. They were pretty rough series of bumps that tripped it. Will see how light a pedal press it takes to disengage the cruise on next ride. Could ne the bumps vibrated the pedal enough to induce it. Bob
  7. Went for a 5 hour ride today and had the cruise control disengage 3 times after hitting very rough interstate patches. Top two cruise lights were flashing a 2 flash pattern. Had to turn cruise off and back on to get it working. Is this a known problem or something I can correct. Bob Marshall, il
  8. When I still has my 85 wing it was a stinking hot dayi was out in middle of nowhere after a 4 way stop pulled over to take a big drink of water when bike kind of sounded funny. Said funny sound was a Harley rider that has saw me pull off a.d stopped to check on me. So there are normal ones out there. He was not ridinh in a herd though maybe that is the difference. 9. My wife bas a 98 600 shadow but likes to ride on back with me too. Does she trust me, she reads books and takes naps. I don't mind the reading, but the maps still make me nervous. I guess she figures I kept a goldwing up while coring a deer, she is safe to take naps. Bob Marshall, I'll
  10. I am also in the low miles older bike equalling unmaintained in one fashion. my father in law is a collector. he has 20 or 30 vintage 60, 70 and 80s bikes he bought and fixed up. most havent been ridden or been started in 20 years. sure, he dusts them he has given me a couple over the years to use. things happen just sitting that one wouldn't think about. last one I got back to running and riding was a really nice 85 650 nighthawk with less tha800 miles on it. he bought off insurance it had been flipped. it was a nice bike when he finished with it, but. never used. surprises, went to change the fork oil and had lots of rust in the inside tops of forks because it had not been used. forks are sealed, bikes stored in humidity and temp ćontrolled building, but that doesn't do anything for sealed up areas. several of the bikes have my name on them for when he departs and my wife has to deal with being the executor. I am not looking forward to dealing with the unclaimed bikes that are "museum quality". take a well ridden bike anytime. bob marshall
  11. on goes around comes around. friend is a state police officer. years ago he was out for a ride off duty when a high school kid pulled some really stupid stunt and about took him out. he tried to get up with the car. high school kid got even wilder, buddy got the plate though. you want to guess who was waiting in uniform on the school parking lot the next day. think the kid ended up with some driving school after that visit and a lecture.
  12. YES. hit a dog about 20 years ago running 40mph. went over handlebars and airborne for some distance. taekwondo and judo fallbmode kicked in. I tucked and rolled purely instinctively and tumbled down the road a fair distance. last thoughts were, this is going to hurt. I remember bouncing down the pavement and counting my head flopping back hitting pavement 3 distinct times. the nicks in the helmet from the asphalt said it all. I was sore, got an ambulance ride out of it, every muscle in my body was sore for a week and was on crutches from both ankles being seriously sprained. but my brain was intact and still in it's container. bob Marshall
  13. I've only followed an idiot cage once. woman flew around a blind curve in my lane at me on a 2 lane county road. spun the bike around and followed her in to town, sometimes obviously on her tail and other times tracking her in stealth mode. she was quite aware she was being followed. small town she could not have been so lost intentionally, wandering around lots of streets. at one point I managed to be a block ahead and oncoming to her. she was on cell phone, we were in front of the county jail at that point, I pointed over to it. she looked straight at me and went on. I on the other hand stopped and went in. gave them her plate number and told them if 911 got a call from a woman being followed by a crazed biker I was him and why I followed her. I am an EMT-I on the local ambulance service and the guys in there know me, so I wasn't worried about getting much flack, and I was pretty pissed at the time. my intentions on following her we're to get a solid plate number, description and a face of who darn near made a hood ornament of me. a few days later I spotted her and her car just up the hill from the blind curve. thought she looked familiar. a neighbor on same road I live on. bob Marshall
  14. Ill check the tire but hopefullnnot that. dealer put a new rear on it Friday before I picked it up. pretty sure it is the suspension and probably bushings noise. found I can get it to squeak or whatever it is on side stand Nd standing on rear floorboard to get rear to cycle. same sound. bob
  15. picked up my new to me 2002 last night. put about 150 miles on it getting it home and wife's car back. when I have a passenger on back, with the extra weight I am hearing a very noticeable dry rub sound when the rear is bounced up and Down, at least when sitting still with engine off. any ideas, am I in for a monetary surprise or are their some grease points that may be in need? bike has 28000 miles on it. bob
  16. not sure which is worse, yours trying to jump on the back, or the one I hit with a gl1200 about 4 years ago. smacked square on going 50. up onto the front wheel, then ride em cowboy over it with both wheels. kept that one up, dog years early took me down on a 400. welcome to the "hit a deer and kept it up club", much better club to be in than the didn't keep it up club. I unfortunately am a member of both bob Marshall, il
