  1. Hey all, Took wife to Chattanooga for her birthday Sunday. 2007 Midnight Venture, 11k, stock, no add ons. Monday morning headed to Aquarium, bike dies, wouldn't start, had to push start it. (wife didn't like that part!!!LOL) Took to auto store, he checked load test, said battery was too low to test and had 9-10 volts with bike running. Put new battery in, unplugged headlight fuse and we continued the day. Overnight I charged both batteries and we drove home, no headlight, about 115 miles. Got home checked battery voltage, 12.4? Hmmmm, still 12.4 after 100 plus miles. Take old battery to Auto Zone, it fails twice on load testing. Start bike, i get 12.4 digital volts with bike running? Neighbor comes over with high tech voltage meter, he gets 13.5~. Plug old battery into my charger, it reads 12.4 volts, but only charged at 40%. Let bike run at idle about 30 minutes, voltage dropped to 11.69. I am leaning that I might need a stator? I WILL NOT use local dealer as he has f'd up my bike twice after working on it. Don't think r&r'ing the stator is outside my skill level except that I hear you have to do a bunch of soldering??? Not my best skill.............. Questions? I have seen a lot of discussion on the HO stator, but is seems that if you don't replace the Rectifier with a HO, it's meaniless? And if you go to a HO rectifier, you have to change the wires? Also, the HO stator runs more current through the already overloaded ignition switch and this causes other issues? If I replace the stator, it would probably be better to replace rectifier too? And not to mention, this all has to be done before Tuesday as we leave for Biketoberfest Wednesday morning........... Any ideas?
  2. No better place than here with all of you experts. Whats a fair replacement price for an 01 RSV? Basically stock, 85k, and in reasonably good shape if they decide to total it?
  3. Well, looks as if a new bike is in my future......... All is ok, just bruised up, but just damn................
  4. And also just did away with the ad velorum taxs on vehicles, now you will pay a higher tag fee(7%) I think upon the initial purchase. The income thing sucks, I am retired, but because I am younger than 62, get taxed........discrimination i think!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Well, spoke to the service manager first thing this morning. explained to him how I found the modulator turned off, and then how the threads for both passing lamp mounts were stripped and that I wasn't very happy. He was most apologetic. By 1130 they were at my house with a trailer and took my bike and the fairning, windshield etc back to the dealer to be repaired. The mech they sent I showed the issues and he too apologized for the poor work. Bike will be ready tomorrow and I believe they are going to install timecerts for the thread repair? I will pick it tomorrow night when wife can get me up,there, we will see, will post tomorrow, but again, you guys are the best here, thanks for all the great info!!!!!!!!!!
  6. Thanks Eck, I will tape off that male lead then. I picked up two 1/4 -20 2" bolts and nuts today. Will use those to reattach the passing lights. I am finding more and more fasteners not tight or connected. Will be on the phone with the stealer tomorrow morning for sure!
  7. Thanks, think the way to go is to just put bolts through and nuts on the back. It would be a real b*tch to try and elongate the metal tabs in the inner bracket without ruining the holes behind. Now, I still have an unconnected wire, a male connector, purple wire that comes off the bottom of my Diamond Star headlight modulator? Any ideas?
  8. Mine are stock. I don't think the fiberglass is as much of an issue as the two tabs coming off the inner flaring lower bracket that are in front of the two holes for the lamps. They hang a bit low and will not allow the bolts to go in straight
  9. Thanks Squidley for the reply. I am not sure without removing the inner faring I can get a drill straight enough tomd, fill and tap for a helicoil? I know I can use a smaller diameter bolt and there is enough room behind the fork brace for a nut and washer but I am Leary of the smaller bolt having room to move in the old hole and wear?
  10. Damn, I hate letting the dealer work on my bike. I prefer to do my own work. After some great tips here on how to replace my steering bearings, I thought it was a bit much for my knowledge base and tool box, so after a good deal from the dealer (350.00) I took it there. Three days later I go pick it up and WOW! What a difference. On the way home, I notice my modulator is not working, so I figure they moved the sensor under the tank. Upon further examination, the eye is where it should be, so now I figure they must have turned the switch off while it was apart. As I start looking, I grab the passing lamps and they move? They got about a half inch play in them. Go get a wrench to tighten and it's tight as hell, both of them. Sooooooo, I remove both bolts to find that neither one was in correctly, BOTH stripped, deep in the fork frame!!!! Damn damn. Once I split the faring, found indeed they had switched the modulator off and also ther is an electrical connection not plugged in and I have no idea where it goes too? The two holes for the passing lamps are totally stripped and is my supposed to be leaving for a. Two week trip to Fl next Tue. I do hope they take responsibility of it and fix it (just don't know how). I guess drill out the holes and install helicoils. It seems that the two brackets on the inner faring were too low and didn't allow the bolts to go in correctly so the mechanic just forced them. I cannot get them to raise and am afraid to crack the faring. I tried to pry them up a bit, but they hardly budge and it seems to,stress ihe faring. Damn, I'd hate to have to take the cage on vacation................... Just venting. Thanks
  11. I to have been very happy with the Avons. Got over 16k outta the rear and almost 30 pitta the front and probably coulda got 5k more! Got my new tire today, ordered wed. Looks as if it was made late 2011? Stamp was 3911? And on a side note, the dealer has a HUGH sale going on. Mounted and balanced my tire for 18 bucks and has dropped the price to r&r my front fork bearings for 350.00. I don't think I can beat that! 38 days and Disney, here we come!
  12. Thanks all, really did like my last set and was very pleased with the mileage. Ordered yesterday, they are due tomorrow, time to go pull the front tire and get ready to take to the dealer to be mounted and balanced. Time to check front pads and calipers while they're apart...... Got a 10 day trip to Disney in 40 days!!!!!!!!
  13. MT90HB-16 - - $135.99 this is the correct tire size? Best price is Motorcycle Superstore, thanks
  14. Gotta replace my front tire. Got almost 30k on it. Got 18,300 outta the rear. Would like to stay with the nenoms, but checking with Sw moto, seems they are being discontinued? If I can't stick with the venom, is the e'3 the next best thing?
  15. Morning all, long time....... My 01 RSV, 79K, I feel that I have a "Notch" on the front end. if I jack the bike up as if to tighten the steering bearings, it will always hit almost what you could call a "flat" spot. I can feel it when I am riding, it seems notched? I was told a bit back when we were in texas with Eck and Sleeperhawk that I didn't have much left in an adjustment? bottom line, I get a front end shimmy, not good, so I am left to replace the bearings. Stealer wants just over 700.00 for the job, hate to part with that type o dough. From what I've read, it can be done at home, just a bear to pull the races. I do not have a torch, but have a dremel tool. I didn't see any thread on the procedures of r&r'ing the bearings? Anyone close to W. Ga. done this before for some moral support? Thanks, Pick

    Rear Tire

Just put on a new Avon, got about 3k on it. Bikes been parked for a few due to weather and it's totally flat! Filled it back up, lost pressure fast!!!!!! Put some soapy water around rim and sure enough, it is leaking around almost the entire rim. This happened once before, dealer had to r and r the tire, but it never completely stopped. This time the dealer put a tube in it to stop the leak. Any issue with running a tube on the rear tire?
  17. Hmmmmmm, just might need an oil change after getting back from Bike Week........
  18. Heading south Wed. morning! Love Biketoberfest, not as crowded as bike week
  19. I really tried not to respond, Gunny, I have all the respect in the world for you. Serving in the marines 30 yrs, Vietnam, you are one hell of a man, but ya kinda hit a nerve there sir, while I didn't spend 30 yrs, I did my time, was a grunt, 0341, and VERY proud, Semper Fi, but....................your opinion of being inexperienced, jealous or lack of knowledge? Been riding all my life, all types, and am pretty proficient wrenching on my own HD, rebuilt the top end not including the machine work, and the rest of the maintenance that comes with a 31 year old Harley,ya know, its one of "those" AMF bikes. It is one of those bikes most on this forum talk about bad about, its not a very "polite" bike, leaks some oil, 2" drags, yup, pretty obnoxious, just as I guess I can be.Was taught well in the Marines, not shy, proud. Jealous, ? Jealous of what? I own a HD and again after going into the dealer with the new 36k bike in tow, hell, it ain't a dealership, its a frekin' boutique, clothes, shoes, sandals,(sandals, Harley Davidson sandals!!!!!!!!!! arrrrrghhhhhhh) cat collars, shower curtains, ceiling fans, panties, glasses, come on, really,? Maybe I can get my nails done while they change the oil in my fatboy...........oh please..........Wonder if anyone in the showroom or shop even knows the significance of Holister,? oh yeah, its a clothing line.............Oh, but they won't/can't work on my bike.........MY lack of knowledge, hardly Gunny, I would love to sit and listen about your life in the Marines, much history and respect there, but HD has lost touch...............
  20. I am not bashing HD, I own one, and its even one of "THOSE" AMF bikes. 31 years and still runing strong. Anyways, I digress.............Took a rode trip with two HD Ultra's something something something??don't know all the specif code designation? FLHSTCUC$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, but I know he bought it two Sundays ago and dropped just over 36K. $36,000.00 36K??????? Sorry, I just can't fathom dropping that kinda change on a scooter, well, about 75 miles into the trip, just outside of menlo on our way to Lookout Mountain, he has to pull over, saying his bike ain't charging. We all take a look, AMP guage is running a steady 10V, no change on revs. Turn it off, it starts? Turn it off, now it won't start? Cranks, no spark, no fire? Cartersville HD comes, picks up the bike with a trailer, follow back to stealership. turns out he needs a new stator? 5-10 days for delivery? REALLY?!!!! Spend $36K and already a STATOR!!!! Not appoligetic, nuthin! Find a way home now ,thank you.....WOW, but they have some nifty looking coffee mugs in the showroom, nothing for my bike? Well, it was priceless, the place was packed! Had a band playing, vendors, and he had to throw a leg over MY RSV and ride out bit*h on the back with him leaving a two week old 36k bike behind!!!!! Sooo, if you have ever read one of my previous rants about the factory, today just reloaded me with fresh ammo! Ride safe my friends
  21. Let me know, if needed I can get a PU and go get it?

Many thank to ALL who had anything to do with putting on this great event. No names cause sure as anything, I'd leave someone out....... Hopefully we raised a bunch of money for St. Judes!!!! Great turnout and hope we will get a chance to see all again!
  24. Redbeard is pushing 250k on his 99, last year at Daytona at the Factory tent, there was one there just over 275k
