  1. I have one from an 83 and one from an 84 I can give you cheap. Shipping plus a six pack. PM me if you as are interested.
  2. I disconnected the speedo cable from the wheel and duct tape it as high as I could to something higher than the speedo. Then mounted a funnel to the opening of the cable and poured motor oil into the funnel. I let it sit for a couple day. Problem gone for years. That's Army engineering.
  3. I could use the two vents from the lower fairings. I lost mine when I hit something that fell off a truck on the freeway. Knocked them both out when I went over the debris.
  4. Here are photos of both my parts bike showing, what I am told is, marking indicating dealer repair of 2nd gear. I don't know how dependable this marking is, everything I learned about Ventures I learned from this site. Of course my primary bike does not carry the mark.
  5. I will take some pics when I get home. The bummer is the 83 Venture I ride does not have the mark. Somewhere along the way I picked up two parts bike and both of the have the mark. My 83 has about 43k miles with no issues, but I am holding my breath.
  6. I have two 1200 engines that have the punch marking indicating that the 2nd gear issues have been repaired by the dealer. I would give one to you for a case of good beer, but you gotta pick it up. In california.
  7. I have a good solenoid on ebay if you need it. From a 84 VR Here are the listing details: http://q.ebaystatic.com/aw/pics/s.gif http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NzY4WDEwMjQ=/$(KGrHqV,!hEE5ov!8PF2BOiluHjG+!~~60_0.JPG?set_id=8800005007Yamaha Venture Starter solenoid with cable, mount and main fuseItem Id:320769474702Starting price:$15.00End time:Oct-13-11 18:05:43 PDT
  8. I have a display unit that I don't need if anyone wants it. I ride a Venture. I bought a VR parts bike. The display did not respond when I jumped the battery. If you want it for shipping cost only let me know.
  9. I just listed a good TCI from an 84 VR parts bike along with other components if anyone needs one: Here are the listing details: http://q.ebaystatic.com/aw/pics/s.gif http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NzY4WDEwMjQ=/$(KGrHqIOKjgE5UDjp6H+BOilzwQM,Q~~60_0.JPG?set_id=8800005007Yamaha Venture TCI Ignition UnitItem Id:320769476692Starting price:$50.00End time:Oct-13-11 18:12:04 PDT
  10. I had the same problem on my front brake when I bought an 83 that had been siting for years. I just keep releasing the pressure and the problem eventually went away.
  11. I will be in DC on business over the Columbus Day weekend. I Have three days off and what to take a road trip to see the fall colors. I will be in a rental car so bike issues are not relevent. I am thinking Penn? Any Suggestions? Thanks.
  12. If available, switch to gas. Typically, electric is 3 times more expensive per BTU then natural gas. It may even be worth installing a propane tank if natural gas is not avail, especially if you are considering switching other appliances to gas. Propane is usually half the cost of electric. The decision to go tank or tankless is secondary to the fuel source. Scott Certified Energy Manager Association of Energy Engineers
  13. I was traveling south on the 101 in Santa Maria just past the Thorson motorcycle complex.
  14. The only marking on the cart was "Clark.." in black marker. Trust me, I was looking for identifying markings.
  15. The truck was gone by the time I pulled off the road and parked my bike. I am not sure if he dropped the cart or if he had stopped to move the cart off the road. No police, no insurance claim, I just cleared what was left off the road and came to work. Luckily I did not have to go home to changed my shorts.
