Thanks for hosting, good food, great people and great help. Bike is running great! I loved the teardrop cargo trailer, really, really nice job! -
This is the one I built last winter. It weighs about 300# empty, tows great at 65mph on the interstate. Foam futon mattress inside with a cookstove shelf in the back hatch. Works wonderful!

When I am in the area I still stay at the Chief's barracks at Great Lakes, last time was last fall.

Well, it road tested great at 65mph on a very windy day. No problem stopping, but I did notice that I needed more throttle then normal so mileage will probably take a hit. Not really a problem as I only plan to take it on two trips a year, the longest being 230 miles away. I think I like it!!

Almost done with my project, total weight so far is 310 lbs. First picture is what it looks like right now. Shelves, lights, fenders and stain and she will be done.

Now this could just be me, but why didn't the moron just use the Drive-up? Oops, the question answered itself, sorry.

I hate to be kind of a dick, but I sent the money for the dash last October, sent several emails, even looked Chuckes up on the web and called him twice, last time left a voice mail, the first time he assured me it was packed and ready for the mail. NOTHING. Disappointed. Just thought I'd see if anyone else actually got their parts.

I owned a 79 XS750SF ande it also used this same dipstick. I will go out on a limb and say that the short end of it will work for all Yamaha rear drives from 76 thru 85, as they all used the same housing. The long end works for those 76 to at least 81 Yamaha bikes with a separate middle gear. (XS750, XS850, XS1100) -
Vets Memorial Ride and LZ Lambeau Field (http://lzlambeau.org/) in May, Testicle Festival (http://www.roundthebendsteakhouse.com/rtbs/) and Chugwater Chili Cookoff (http://www.chugwater.com/) and then a pig roast in Wisconsin the next weekend in June.

Any ideas how to remove a stripped Allen bolt?
hlange replied to Color01's topic in Poor Man Tips and Fixes
If what you did was to round out the hex head, one method is to use a hacksaw or Dremel tool to cut a slot across the head and then use a screwdriver to turn the bolt. (By screwdriver I mean anything that will fit in slot and turn the bolt) -
I could use the LED display from the dash.

I bought a XS750SF in 1999, kept it until a year after I got my '85 Venture when I gave it to my son. He still rides it regularly. I even did a SS 1000 on it in 2003. Keep good gas in it, make sure the petcocks don't leak or you will get GasOil and screw up the engine (many, like me, put a manual shutoff in the fuel line) change the fuse block, go thru and clean all of the electrical connectors, change ALL fluids, slap on a set of stainless steel brake lines and clean the caliper pistons and put an oil cooler from an 850 on it. Ride the hell out of it!

From experience I can tell you the following: This is not the woman you married, the one who you would give your life for, your princess, your soulmate, your everything, this is the ***** that would rip your balls off, chew them and spit them in your face laughing manically the entire time and then claim to be a victim. Get that through your head or you will lose in the end. Bitter?, not me! Wiser?, you bet!

Sidecover Louvers
hlange replied to hlange's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I am almost ashamed to say, but they are floor air ducts cut to length with the entire back removed held on with epoxy steel and painted.- 6 replies

I got tired of trying to find OEM louvers for my bike, so I "engineered" these.

86-93 seat cover
hlange replied to hlange's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
There is a difference between early and later 1st gen seats, perhaps it is between Ventures and Royale Ventures, but I have a stock 85 seay and a stock 87 seat, both differ from the 83-84 seats I have seen. The main difference is the passenger seat but there is also a difference in the driver seat shape. I have purchased a seat cover from B&H and it will not fit. They also only list seats for 83-83 for the Venture, nothing for 86-93.
