Which LED Signal LIghts?
Seaking replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
When you refer to the "three pins" do you mean the little lugs sticking out of the sides of the socket that engages into the plug sides? Now this is getting confusing lol.. We both have 2006 bikes, mines a Midnight from the USA, so they should still be the same OEM types, no? I thought they would be the standard 1156 and 1157 bulbs? Thanks for the heads up.. -

Easiest way to gain a few HP
Seaking replied to shikano53's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I've never tried a Geezer Glide yet, I'm waiting till I'm past 50 before I'm old enough to try one out.. and young enough to be able to handle it lol.. Seen too many older gents get a Wing and then quick grow too old to handle it.. shame, ages catches up to us like that. However, I consider my "Baby Geezer Glide in Training" to be plenty bike enough for me.. Simple enough to work on, cheap enough to work on The Wing guys tell me of the pain in the assets their bikes are for working on, just removing plastic panel after plastic panel after another.. -

Damn, dunno where your Wing riders got their training from but the guys around here are nothing to laugh about.. they will out perform a lot of bikes with those big Geezer Glides.. Several of them in our area were asked not to participate in "skills contests" at biker rallies as it shied away a lot of the HD riders from even trying out All kidding aside, A Wing is a huge bike, a comfy couch bike, but put in the hands of a capable rider who practices a lot, a Wing can keep up and / or outperform a lot of bikes on the road.. Just my opinion after trying to keep up with a few Wings in this area hehe -

Which LED Signal LIghts?
Seaking replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
There is nothing wrong with the product J&P sells for LED side marker, it works just like the OEM marker on your bike, but it's illuminated as well.. Simple to wire in ect.. What makes it even better is that it juts out ever so slightly but enough that when following the bike you actually see the illuminated light from behind.. so it gives the bike an additional spread of "see me" lighting.. I plan to do up the front amber ones as well.. a little more work just to get the wires hidden.. -

Yamaha Turn Signal LED Inserts Amber 1156 GEN200-A-1156-T Yamaha Turn Signal LED Inserts Amber 1157 GEN200-A-1157E2-T As mentioned before I already have an electronic relay flasher unit someone sent me when my OEM one died, so I believe I'd be all set up for it.. The insanely bright tail light works great on the bike.. Love it.. =) Thanks once again to all.. Cheers -

Which LED Signal LIghts?
Seaking replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I already have the proper electronic relay that incorporates the load equalizers if need be. Custom Dynamics and other companies have various LED signal light solutions but I'm looking to see who has tried which and whats kind of first hand info.. I have one of the Custom Dynamics brake lights on my bike and it's insanely bright when you apply the brake.. -

erhm no, not these, I bought these and though they "can" be used, they need to be modified and too much hassling to be effectively used.. Their other products are great though.. -
Hi guys, anyone here using LED signal lights on the RSV? I've seen some on other bikes and didn't think they were brighter or near as bright as the OEM incandescent bulbs. If you have LED signal lights on your bike, and believe they are as bright if not brighter than the OEM lights, AND remember the URL to where to find these lights, could you please drop me a line? Thanks in advance. Cheers

How hard is wheel removal?
Seaking replied to shikano53's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Gah whats the thing about the pins that should be greased up as well, any time you remove the wheel they should be lubed up to avoid clicking and such? No memory this late in the year lol -
Intermittent Radio Channel Selection
Seaking replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I've had that happen to me several times and found that to finally resolve the issue, the plug coming from the controller (blue banded one I believe?) wasn't seating properly all the time and breaking contact enough to cause issues. I was able to resolve all my issues by making a buckshee clamping system out of 4 zip ties. Wrap one around each end of the plugs and another two zip ties pulling those two rings together.. it solved all my radio problems.. -
cough cough.. ok, if you don't mind paying double for oil.. 19 bucks a litre? no thanks.. I'd sooner put Rotella in.. of course these are all personal opinions..

Question, Valve Adjustments
Seaking replied to DanC's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Just out of curiosity, I called the two local shops to find out what they would charge to have this done.. At the first shop, I had to explain to them what a 1300 Yamaha Royal Star Venture was.. (no joke) and offered that their price of 2 shop hours to have it done was way too low.. After asking someone in the know, the guy comes back and says "Oh I had the wrong RSV type listed..".. (shaking head...) After getting someone competent on the phone, they tell me a realistic 3 hours to do the job at $75/hr rate.. but as soon as they find a need to adjust then it takes time. He was able to go through some records of previous bikes they worked on (not many!!) and found the average was 4 hours.. closer to 5 hours shop time. The second shop knew what a RSV was, which is always good, and quoted the book rate of 4.5 hours (roughly $450 plus shop supplies) which would include some adjustment time, but if a lot of adjustments are required, then it starts to add. That was a more confident knowledgeable answer than the first place, but unfortunately this was the same shop who failed twice on maintenance on my bike in the past.. So around here, a valve job is closer to the $400-$500 range.. Unfortunately the level of competency worries me. They don't see these bikes very often and well.. I dunno.. I may have to dig deep into the memory reserves and attempt it myself. Goose did a good job of pointing out the little idiosyncrasies of this bike when pulling things off and putting them back together again.. if only my memory will come back alive lol Wish I had video captured the process back then. Alrighty then.. That was fun..- 16 replies

Question, Valve Adjustments
Seaking replied to DanC's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
$260 for a valve adjustment?! Wow, if I could get it done for that price here, I'd certainly would prefer letting them do it. it would be worth it I'll call the local shops here and see what THEY charge.. I'll almost have to wager it would be a lot more.. :/ Cheers- 16 replies

Question, Valve Adjustments
Seaking replied to DanC's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Geesus, I'm due for another valve check soon again?! I just had it done this spring and already pushing close to the 22,000 miles since then.. ouch.. Under Goose's tutelage, I saw it done first hand and though it appeared daunting at first, he showed that it can be done by the back yard mechanic easily enough.. well worth the effort of having it done the last time as the engine smoothed out nicely and works well since then.. Well worth going through the process.. got it all done in ONE day at Goose's Garage.. but it would take me a week to go through the process carefully, trying to remember all the little tricks that make the task easier and proper. Another trip to the US to pick up shims and tools next summer =) Cheers- 16 replies

Hit a hawk-shattered lower fairing
Seaking replied to Sandbagger's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
gees, one bird out of a million and you suffer major damage.. This year alone I have 15 confirmed (verifiable) hits and no damage other than a couple pair of underwear needing to be tossed out.. (crows pigeons and grouse being the larger birds).. Glad you survived your encounter with the aviary kind -
Why's my fuel pump wanna act like that
Seaking replied to Beau-Kat's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)

Why's my fuel pump wanna act like that
Seaking replied to Beau-Kat's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Hi Rusty.. can this pump be a straight up replacement part or only good for an "emergency replacement to get you home until a proper pump shows up"? I found where they are available here in Canada at a good price.. Might be worth the while to pack a spare just in case as well.. ya never know.. -
Most Japanese bikes will read around 10% faster than they actually are doing. On my 2006 Midnight, it was reading roughly 9.3% faster on the speedometer than I was actually going. I installed a SpeedoHealer this year and it works nicely. And accurately so. Your ODO will not read properly but in the overall scheme of things, this is acceptable, in my opinion.. As best as I can figure it out, because it's not overly consistent, the ODO will be roughly 4% or 5% off on average.. To some people this is most unacceptable, for what ever reason... but over a maintenance periodicity, you won't be off schedule by very much for oil changes and so forth.. After 85,000 miles on a bike, what's 5% of that overall going to affect things? I'd sooner have an accurate speed than worry about doing my oil change 300 or 800 miles earlier / later.. That's just me.. your mileage may vary.. Cheers

Thanks for the info.. None of those shops listed are around here (Sears Ca doesn't carry them).. but the next trip into the US of the A I'll have a boo at pep Boys and such.. Not sure how pricing works where you are with Amsoil products but they are dang expensive here.. huge markup on their products.. compare it with what the other synth oils go for? ouch.. not worth it.. almost $18 a little bottle.. compared to $9 to $12 for other brands.. But that's out here in the middle of no where.. 2 weeks geographically located from anywhere significant..

Can't find those oil filters around here.. been looking though.. Another thing I put on my bikes is a MAG PLUG.. the drain plug has a heavy magnet to it that attracts small particles.. any little bit helps. Certainly doesn't hurt.. Where can you pick up those Pureone filters? (I'm in Canada) and what's the cost difference over an OEM one? Cheers M8
