  1. INTERESTING indeed.. I'll have to check it out.. Many thanks M8
  2. Nice, MANY thanks for the info, much appreciated. I'll give him a call next week. Cheers M8
  3. Pulling the fairing off is simple enough and would allow you time to survey under the hood so to speak.. Once you have it off, you can readily access the light to change out the bulb, simple enough.
  4. A simple fused circuit with relay is all you need really.. Princess Auto would have something like that if you can't find it elsewhere. (did YOU ride today?) Cheers M8
  5. Thanks Rick, much appreciated.. I just had the wheel off and put back on the other day for something else and it's like.. argh.. lol I'll give it a try with the wheel on just because I'm frikken lazy about it.. But push come to shove I'll rip it off and do it that way.. I'm going to do a vid clip of how weak the Yammy shock is.. my buddy is surprised at how much my bike dips when you press down on the right side of the bike.. his basically barely moves at all.. So this shock will take some getting used to but it will be of the good kind. The adjustments were made based on the info I provided them at Buckeye.. Weight, single rider etc.. I seldom EVER ride double.. hopefully that will be spot on. whooooooo looking forward to the first ride for sure! 3 more months... SIGH...
  6. Hi guys, Happy New Year.. what better way to spend the evening than in the garage working on the bikes eh? (gosh I need to get a life!!) My new shiny WORKS Performance shock finally arrived today and wow, it's real purty! Almost too purty to mount it under a bike. Its all preloaded and ready to go. Though I'm mechanically inclined and have all the tools to install this shock, is there something out of the ordinary or 'don't forget to do this' notes I should do to install this shock properly and such? Oops, just read through the manual and looks like i have to pull the rear wheel, bags, fender and pipes to change the shock?! Ouch.. is this true? Thanks in advance for any advice or comments Cheers
  7. I had toyed with the idea of also blacking out the chrome around the headlight, I was going to mock it up with black tape first though.. But after seeing your photos, I think I have to leave it chromed.. it's very much a personal opinion mind you.. The lights you mentioned having on the bike, do you have a link to them where I can check out specs and such? What are the lower round items on the bike? Lights or horns? Not sure what those are..? Good looking bike!!
  8. I'll have to give him a call next week then... Question is: Why is he being so keen on this when he's not the one who sold the items? Or is Greenboat a subsidiary of Marinebeam? Thanks for the info.. Happy New Year!
  9. Unfortunately, that's not the case.. There are a lot of FM / AM radio stations and their transmitting towers within a few miles from where I live (and I'm one of the higher elevations in the area) and when I have the LED highway lights OFF, the stations are all crystal clear.. Either riding or when the bike is static and engine running or not running, it's a clear signal. As soon as those lights come on "Bzzzzzzzz" it drowns out the signal completely.. doesn't matter which channel, it's such a buzz on the system it drowns out the radio sounds.. And this is with CB, AM FM and AUX.. anything and everything through the speakers will be buzzed out. Yes, even when the audio is faded to the rear speakers.. its the whole system affected. Someone suggested encasing the whole radio in copper mesh (EMF isolation wire cloth) but I hadn't been able to find it in my area. All this for want of a measely 20 cent electronic part included at time of manufacturer. I would hope that in the near future, some bright eyed and intelligent person might actually put together a setup that works for bikes. These are bright.. but suck for radios.. Anyway.. onward and upwards.. time to hunt for another solution.. it was a nice try but too expensive to pursue..
  10. You are amongst the extreme FEW who doesn't suffer interference from the lights.. Even the maritime community are bashing these lights as they interfere with their marine radios.. which isn't a good thing on a boat.. ! The shielding device you refer to is a "ferrite choke", you usually see them as the round objects encased in plastic at the end of various electronic cables and such. These won't wont work in this case as it would need to included within the light's electronics, inside the sealed beam, not on the outside of the sealed beam. They do work, but not applicable in this case. I located several other manufacturers of LED highway lights and Headlights (hi and low beams) and put forth the same question of interference to them.. and haven't heard back from them yet.. I'll let you know if I do.. Cheers M8
  11. Alan, did you purchase your lights from GreenBOAT or "MarineBEAM" ? Sounds like Jeff has a handle on the customer service side of things.. I don't mind so much of people making mistakes, we're human after all... but it's what people do afterward is what sets the professionals from the incompetent numpties. "Cranky mode still on... "
  12. When I did my research about these lights after starting to have problems with Greenboat, we discovered that even the marine industry were having problems with them for the interference with their marine radios and such.. The BMW car enthusiasts found a fix to their cateyes issues but it wouldn't apply to these lights as they would need to be re-designed with certain elements included to the circuitry. GREAT for bikes without radios.. just highly inconvenient to those of us who listen to toons when we ride..
  13. I've had that happen to me while away on a road trip after a heavy rain and mud storm.. had to wash the bike down, get to the terminals and clean them off.. the bike had been awesome ever since.. However, time to look for a new battery =)
  14. hi Mike, are you saying that Jeff at MarineBeam is the supplier to GreenBoat shop, and that HE might be able to resolve the issues we're having with Greenboat? Sorry for the confusion on that previous.. I was rather torqued reading the MarineBeam "info" page, and thinking it was GreenBoat's page.. which would have been utter BS
  15. I have the Zumo also and the interference affects the AUX on the bike's audio system as well.. so much to the point you can't hear much at all.. yeah it's THAT bad.. I'm going to leave them on for now anyway, lord knows what I went through I might as well use them.. but come the big trip this coming May, I'll be taking them off so I can listen to tunes over my Rinehart pipes
  16. Oddly enough I have this same light on my project VStar (soon to be finished).. it's a nice looking chunk of chrome and lights.. bright!! Sexy looking but i think it would look kind of "odd" on the Venture. Too small too tight looking.. The mounting system is a little 'off' for a RSV mounting system, not sure how they would configure it to do the job. But I shouldn't think it would be too difficult to be honest..
  17. seeing how my 2006 has had a lot of electrical issues in the past but the battery still seems to be holding it's charge and kicking the bike over, I take heed in perhaps getting the battery changed over, or having a spare ready to go soon.. is there something special about the Deka that makes it desirable for our bikes over another brand? After seeing the Yamaha price tag, the Deka seems like a great price.. how good of a battery is it? Thanks
  18. Thanks Mike, It had been since Oct / Nov that myself and another chap have attempted to deal with the incompetence over there and basically gave up through sheer exhaustion and disappointment that they would be as such. If your buddy is sincere about their customer service, please pass on my email address as nothing *I* seem to send seems to reach the right people.. Perhaps the janitorial staff intercepts the mail and has a lark at flushing various responses. We email various people, spoke on the phone with a couple (included a lady who sounded like she was on drugs, (no joke).. I've spent enough time and wasted enough money on them.. Shame, it looked so promising from the beginning.. the EMF issue aside, it's just the sheer incompetence of QA and Customer Service that ruined it for them.. Thanks all the same (but I'm not "bitter" Cheers M8 PS: I went and read the info on their info link you provided, I'm a little surprised that they would have the balls to print that and then totally scoff off two separate customers like they recently did.. and noticed afterwards that THESE guys are not the ones who ballsed up my lights order with shoddy QA and Customer Service, it was greenboat.. Just to clarify to everyone, my beef isn't with MarineBeam... Cheers
  19. That's a shame to hear, Greenboat was eager to sell them to us for a MC application, saying they would be great... Quick to sell, impossible to talk to again after the sale.. I'd sooner talk to MarineBeam and cut out the weak link which was Greenboat.. they simply don't deserve any respect from purchasers what so ever. In today's economy, you live and die by customer service. They are slow to react to this nugget of savvy business practice and shall slide to the wayside because of it. yeah, THAT annoyed about their shoddy service and products. While chatting with MarineBeam, did you guys bring up the EMF interference on the radios? Once that issue is resolved, then those lights would be the top notch product motorcycle enthusiasts have been looking for.. Cheers M8
  20. read my previous post.. I hope you hadn't yet purchased them.. the company went "ass-clown" all of a sudden, much to my disappointment.. shame.. i did find another source for similar lights but they are more expensive.. I would hope those lights actually work...
  21. Sorry to have to add to all this but after repeated poor customer service from GreenBoat, I can no longer recommend them or their products to anyone in the biking community.. Out of 4 recent lights ordered, one broke in half upon removing it from the box (not glued back together properly), one simply not working at all.. and a third working intermittently.. The forth one has it's element sitting at an odd angle thus projecting much of it's light entirely off to one direction.. Someone at their Quality Assurance went to sleep on the job and took their code of ethics with them.. what a rip off farce. Subsequent emails and phone calls got nothing but lip service and BS from them.. Luckily, the other lights I had purchased and that are on the bike work properly and do the job.. but I won't inflict the same BS on another biker after what I've gone through with their shabby and BS customer service and shoddy products. The other lights are being used to light up a camp in the middle of the woods.. Shame.. these lights showed good potential but clowns ruined it..
  22. If you keep the K&N Charged properly it should do it's job just as well as OEM.
  23. The hardest part about finding a good helmet is finding the one shop or store that actually has a huge inventory on the shelves to try on. I can appreciate the reason why they can only carry a select stock and special order the others in.. I had reconstructive surgery a couple of years ago which now makes it nearly impossible to find a full face composite helmet that will close properly, or a full face one that I can wear safely. So I'm stuck with half or 3/4 helmets. Every time I go into the USA I try to find that shop with a huge selection but all I find are the same helmets one shop to another.. And the shops around here have to charge a cover fee to order so many helmets in for me to try.. Oh well.. the search continues..
  24. When I bought the used RSV I swapped the filters to K&N as I really prefer them over stock. I clean mine out mid-summer and end of season riding.. on THIS bike they stay rather nice and clean compared to the exposed filter mods I have on the VStar.. The big difference I noticed was a slight reduction in fuel mileage.. and to be honest, I probably "feel" my bike has more oomph to it than a bike with stock filters (I have aftermarket slip ons as well..).. So the combo of the two allows the bike to breathe better.. I only say "feels" like it has more oomph as I haven't done a comparison dyno run on the bike with both setup, so it's all subjective. Sounds better anyway =)
  25. many thanks folks.. makes sense now.. lol... Cheers! Christmas Eve, -2'C with high winds.. had to go out for a spin to say "I rode Christmas Ever because my wife won't let me on Christmas Day" ride.. I must say I like these gauge more than the other one I have.. more fiddling about though, but I like the accuracy better.. Could be the other one is sticking.. but nicer, the new one..
