  1. My wife didn't like the extreme elevation changes right outside her window. I loved the extreme elevation changes right outside my window. I had the GPS on and the map looked like a bowl of spaghetti.
  2. Just got home last night from a quick trip through Yellowstone, sadly in the cage. We went over the Beartooth pass, I loved it, my wife absolutely hated it. Can't wait to take the bike over it. It is now officially my new favorite road.
  3. Here's the link to the tech article on swapping the fork springs. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=505
  4. I replaced the fork oil when I swapped out the springs, though I put in 1 oz less in each fork due to more of the displacement made by the bigger Progressive spring. You do not have to remove the forks. Go to the tech library and follow the steps to do this, it's pretty straight forward. Remember to jack up and support the front of the bike, getting the front tire off of the ground, or when you pull out the top plugs, you will be making full use of your vocabulary.
  5. Got my Progressive Springs installed and test drove it this evening. Amazing what a difference they make. I used the entire pvc bushing witn no air in the forks and they were perfect.
  6. I had the same problem with a screw on my '83 and used the Craftsman extractor set. Start with the smallest and when you start getting mad, to up one size and it should come right out.
  7. I was reading the Gold Wing magazine that a friend had, that some folks had removed their headlight modulators because, as one letter had said, that it didn't matter what speed they were traveling at that deer would freak out and jump out right in front of them. After they removed the modulators, they had no more problems? Has anyone else heard of this?
  8. My Progressive Springs are supposed to show up tomorrow.
  9. That's how I plan on swapping my springs when they show up.
  10. This all sounds very good. I took my bike out for a ride the other day after doing quite a bit of work on all parts of the bike, and I had forgotten how bad the thing was bottoming out. I am around 290#'s and 6'5'' so the extra height might not bother me. But by leaving the spacer out it should be pretty easy getting the plugs in. With the old springs, the plugs went in with hardly any effort at all. Is it hard to get the plugs in with the progressive springs with the spacer?
  11. Yeah, I was off a bit on where I was looking and made the assumption that it applied to my bike. Thanks!
  12. Thanks, I thought that was the part number, but wasn't sure. I've located them at Mawonline.com for $65.95 Thanks
  13. I'm going to order Progressive Springs for the front end on my '83 VR. I noticed that there are different weights of springs, so I'm not sure which to order. I'm a big guy and often ride two up, so I'm assuming that I should get the heaviest that I can get. Any recommendations?
  14. I replaced my stator in my '83 Venture with only 23k on it, but it had been sitting for several years and had corroded and blew. I got mine at Dennis Kirk. http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/tpl/cmn/prodlist.jsp;jsessionid=2QJ40S1GQPMMVLA0WTKSM4VMDK0NCIV0?store=Main&category=41202&np=&mmyId=16018 The new wires are a smaller diameter than the original so make sure that you 'goop' it up with a good rtv gasket silicone. I didn't do a good enough job when I did mine and I am going to redo the silicone this weekend. The stator works great though!
  15. I appreciate it very much. Thanks for your time and let me know what I owe you. If you're ever in the Black Hills of South Dakota area let me know.
  16. Scott Larson 3006 BigHorn Ave Alliance, Ne 69301 Thanks very much
  17. They are 12 mm long, total length and is 4mm in total thickness and is countersunk
  18. '83 VR the screws are 4mm and 12mm long countersunk
  19. Does anybody have any extra brake resevoir screws?
  20. I just serviced my drive shaft while replacing the rear tire. Even though it at first looked intimidating, it is an easy job. During reassembly, make sure that your transmission is in gear, then you will easily know when the front splines are engaged. I also carefully used a small pair of needle nosed pliers to hold the rear portion of the shaft, and everything fell into place.
  21. I'm tearing apart my forks on my '83 VR. Concerning the anti-dive units on the lower front forks, do I remove the unit from the forks or do I remove the brake line at the banjo bolt and leave the anti-dive unit attached to the forks? Thanks
  22. My introduction to My '83 Venture Royale was in '97 when I was looking for a bike. I had been looking at Goldwings from about that same era and after riding several wasn't very impressed. Then I visited the Yamaha dealer and rode the VR and my search was over. The Venture was way beyond what the Goldwing was at that time.
  23. I've had my hearing aids for over 3 years now. I have profound hearing loss and one thing that I learned while researching hearing aids is that when your hearing begins to go, your brain over a period of time looses the ability to process certain sounds and once the brain looses that ability, it is gone forever and can never be rehabilitated. So, if you let it get too bad, then hearing aids won't do you any good. I got my hearing aids through an outfit online that works with local hearing clinics. www.hearingplanet.com They were great to work with and had interest free financing for a year. The local ENT had a slightly lower price which Hearing Planet matched. Avoid chains such as Beltone and Audibel the reason being they are much more expensive and the equipment is comparable to what you'd get at your ENT. Other than that, you do get what you pay for. I work in a noisy environment, so I got a little higher end aids which have different programable modes for different situations. Money well spent. The BTE (Behind The Ear) aids are the most reliable, while the further into the ear canal you go, the more prone they are to needing servicing of some sort. If you think that you might need hearing aids, then you do. Don't tolerate bad hearing until you think that it's finally gotten to the point that you think that you can finally justify the expense. The improvement in the quality of life for you and your family is well worth it.
  24. Sounds like a great way to have a club library. Put my name on the list. Thanks
  25. I know of two times when a helmet has saved my life. I never ride without one.
