  1. Hey Jonas: Sorry to hear that you can't make to MD, but fully understand. Work can be such a rotten four letter word....sometimes. Beth and I live about 30 minutes from Detroit, Michigan, on the Canadian side here in Amherstburg, Ontario. If you need a place, you and yours are more than welcome anytime. We have two spare bedrooms, and yup, they have beds, two spare couches if you'd like as well........, but seeing as you're honeymoooooooooooooning, I doubt the couches would be an option. Anyway, there's room here anytime! gunk:)
  2. Keep in mind that on the rear brakes, on some of these bikes, the inside pad wears much quicker than the outer pad.....pop off the inspection cover, grab a mirror and check it out....it may be an issue. The levelling links help for low speed handling....and for more throttle response you might want to throw in a new ignition module....I put a Dyna in mine, they run a couple of hundred bucks, made a huge difference.....then you can take it a step further and get a V-max rear end installed...... There's lots you can do, depends on what you want and how many $$$$ you want to spend. The above mentioned fixes are all easily do it yourself type things, and I'm sure that some of the true "gurus" on this site will pipe in with other things you can do. gunk:shock3:

    Open your Eyes

Good one Ian......it's great to see the electronic message boards about bikes in the GTA...too bad we don't have some around here! gunk:)
  4. I switched to TD Insurance last year...they saved me big $$$$. I'm paying under $1100 per year for both my venture and the royal star, both with full coverage. Might be worth your while to get a quote from them. gunk:)
  5. Last year I installed a set of Jardine Chromed forward controls on my 96 royal star. Although I really enjoy the looks of them on the bike, I'm just not comfortable using them. I'm stretched out just a little too much for my 5'8" fatman frame.....and for myself, it's just not comfortable enough to continue using them. I'm going to put the regular Yamaha floorboards, shifter and brake systems back on...returning that part of the bike to stock. So...when I have a chance to dig the bike out of the backyard shed....the ground is still way too soft to get the bike out....I'll post some pics of them on the bike, and put them up for sale. I'll be asking $300 plus actual shipping costs. They are mint, I only put on about 600 miles on that bike last year. Thought I'd post this up in case someone else is thinking of installing a set on their royal star, they list for $700 new. Here's a couple of pics when I installed them. gunk:confused24:
  6. Yup, the food was quite good...I only put on 6 lbs., or almost a pound per day The food is really good at that restaurant though....and I've got some "stretchy" type:shock3: pants now to wear....so bring it on! We gonna travel down there together again this year? I've booked the weekend off.... gunk
  7. LOL! And when I look out my "picture window" I can see your roof line! Heck, it even appears that your dog sled team has 8 dogs....I've only got 6! gunk:shock3:
  8. Checking out those 60 year old hotties eh Gary!!! Hope your trip is going well...and warm...and dry....fun....we miss the two of you up here! Got about 4" of white gold here last night.....the salt business is thriving this winter!!! gunk:shock3:
  9. Got at least 4" over here in A'burg overnight Larry......wet, heavy, drifted snow....lots of high winds to go with it......sure has been a bugger of a winter this year. gunk:shock3:
  10. July or August is best.....weather can range all over the map...especially up around Lake Superior.....can be as high as the 90's or freezing cold there....southern Ontario would be much the same as New York or Michigan....... June and September can be really nice as well...but luck of the draw there..... gunk
  11. One of the most scenic routes is from Sault Ste. Marie to Wawa. Highway 17 follows Lake Superior, truly scenic....in my opinion the most scenic route in Ontario...but there are others that will differ. Be vary wary if travelling after dusk....the moose congregate on the roadsides...and roads.....and they aren't user friendly. You can actually travel from Wawa over to Chapleau, and down highway 129 to the Thessalon area, which puts you right back on to Highway 17, which is the Trans Canada Highway....really a cattle trail compared to your superslabs stateside. Travelling from Espanola to Little Current on the Manitoulin Island, and catching the ferry across Lake Huron is also very scenic...but call ahead for reservations to ensure you get on the ferry...it's busy! The ferry runs from South Bay Mouth to Tobermory...or vise versa.....depending on your lean....to. The Mackinac bridge is in my mind at least is a must see, from there you're an hour out of the Soo, MI. Prince Edward county is very picturesque, a few free to use ferry rides to island hop...and lots of water to ride alongside. The Peterborough area is very pretty, up to Bancroft, and even Algonquin Park. Heck, I'm getting kind of homesick here...lol..I've lived in pretty much all of these areas of Ontario.....(you move a lot in the mining industry....) I don't like riding through the GTA..the Toronto area...way too much traffic for me! Try to work your way around it if you can. There is some great riding in the Niagara Escarpment area..... Heck, I could go on and on. The Ottawa River Valley.... I'm gonna quit now......if you've got any questions, let me know, I'll do what I can to help you out! gunk:shock3:
  12. I have my 96 royal star......stripped down and soloed out......I enjoy every minute I'm on it! gunk
  13. I figure with that big storm coming your way...if I get you blushing enough, the snow'll melt before you have to shovel it...heck, it might even melt all the way over to Big Tom's!! I've been watching e-bay, searching all over for those covers....man, I'm excited! gunk
  14. Without Bongo, I'd still be searching for smooth chrome engine breathers...which I have been on the hunt for, for quite some time..... Highland's Yamaha will not ship to Canada, will not ship to an American address if the credit card you use is Canadian, or your paypal addy is Canadian??? Must be some history there.... Dan in parts told me yesterday he would hold the covers for one day.....and when Bongobob called them today...lo and behold, they had sold them to somebody else:shock3:. What the heck? Soooooooo.......... Bongo went to his local dealer, Pioneer, who are going to be at Don's MD...and they didn't have any, but they were GREAT enough to do a search and found some at another dealer. Bongo ordered them on my behalf.....and the rest is history!! Now if that isn't going above and beyond.....I am so glad that I'm a member of this site...the folks, people and all others are just the best. Just think of how dang purty my bike is gonna be now!!! In all seriousness, I am always proud when I read stories like this on our forum here....the word FAMILY comes to mind, big time. My THANKS to Bongo..... gunk
  15. Glad you and your daughter are both ok Joe...2 seconds looks great on paper....I think at some point in time we are all guilty of being a tad too close or inattentive....good luck with your insurance folks. gunk

  17. Thanks Bob! There should be more of us! gunk:)
  18. I would say my second most enjoyable hobby, if you could consider it a hobby, is doing random acts of kindness for folks that are in need...pushing cars out of snowbanks instead of driving by, snowblowing the neighbours driveways, cutting the neighbours lawn, participating in fundraisers for persons who are ill and in need....actually gives me a real satisfied feeling with myself as a person and the world in general when I can do something like this. Hobby or not, if more would do this, I think the whole world would be a better place. gunk
  19. Mine blew once...I traced it back to a bare wire that I did not properly wrap when I installed the LED brake/running light under the trunk on my Venture. Sounds like he has a short going on somewhere...any non factory lighting or accessories added to it? Check the wiring on them if there is... gunk:whistling:
  20. We're really torn....it would be great to hit the rally, but at the same time, it would be nice not to battle heavy traffic and room prices...we motel it, Beth just isn't a camper. I don't want to be anywhere close to Sturgis during the rally, but a week or so in front or behind would be neat. This is going to be a tough one, although I'm thinking September would probably be better for us...... Thanks to everyone for their insights and input, I do appreciate your thoughts on this one. gunk:confused24:
  21. We have a lot of fun at this one.....and it grows by leaps and bounds each year...we're expecting about 60 or more this year.....when there are two couples coming together, we advise them to just bring 1 bottle between the two couples, cuts down on the waste wine...but not on the wasted winers. Next year we'll have a go at Bordeaux's.......just a fun night to break up the monotony of a long winter with no riding. It's funny how the "cheaper" wines, at least $$$ wise, usually end up being the winner.....when we started this out, we had an upper limit of $20......wine is a lot more expensive up here in Canuckistan......now we've raised the upper end limit to $30, and the so called cheaper wines still top off the evening....who'd a tunk? Enjoy the idea, we sure do! Oh....just to throw a little wrench in things...the odds are usually pretty good that you will have a "double" wine to sample...2 bottles the same....I always try to have one pair of wines exactly the same, #'d different, to see if there is anyone who can spot them. Believe it or not....there is usually at least one who has....and there are a lot of very, very happy campers here before the wine tasting is completed, if you know what I mean You'll have fun with it, DO IT! gunk:backinmyday:
  22. I no longer drink either.....I freeze it and eat it....that way I don't have to lie at a "ride" program...when officer "Bob" asks if I've been drinking....I can honestly say no!!!!! We'll see you in Kitchener next month as well! gunk:stirthepot:
  23. LOL....2nd gens, 3rd gens, re-gens....no discriminating here....at least for one night of the year gunk:whistling:
  24. We'll see you in Kitchener next month Bob! gunk:shock3:
