  1. OK....I don't want Cougar sitting around waiting all night. The gauges were not yet secured in the final picture, just stuck in there. They will be straight when I get the straps put on the inside to hold them. In the first picture, it shows that i am cutting the lip off the top of the faceplate. It protrudes further than the other edges so I cut it all the way across so that the lip is equal all the way around for an almost flush mount.

  3. Well folks...I just finished installing my set. I used V7GOOSE's excellent writeup for connecting them including drilling and tapping the 20MM oil plug for the pressure switch and the neat trick for forming new threads for the water temp with the anti-fowler. Everything worked out just perfectly. I did take some pictures and will try to get them posted soon. Still have to put the fairing back together. Fired it up and made sure that all were working properly and no leaks anywhere. The set that I bought have a lot shallower face plate than the Autometer gauges. It only protrudes from the dash about 1/8".

  5. Shhhhhhhh....................you COULD forget about such things. It was that dang E-Fishin that causes it. He got leaned over too far and was about to drop his bike. I put my sidestand down and ran to help him save that Antique and then mine rolled off the stand. Go figure.
  6. I agree with you. But there are places to discuss such things and there are places that are not appropriate for it. VentureRider.org was not created to discuss politics. The hope for this site is that we enjoy and discuss the things that we have in common, not those that might separate us. There are plenty of site's on the Internet where political discussion is welcome and encouraged.
  7. The point is not whether or not you give a ***. It will STILL be deleted if it gets nasty. The rules here are VERY clear, political debate is not welcome. I don't blame anybody for getting upset about this proposed change, I agree with you about it. The problem is that too many people can't discuss such an issue without it degrading into a discussion about who we voted for, why we did so, etc. Such discussion is simply not allowed here. I am in 100% support of our troops. If anybody were to come on here and start making nasty remarks against those who have dedicated their lives or a few years of there lives to the noble task of protecting our freedoms and safety, they would be unwelcome at this site. PERIOD Regardless of that though, this site was not created to discuss politics. Already there have been posts that have nothing to do with the actual proposal you posted about. Expect this thread to be gone pretty soon.
  8. I don't have a cross reference but did find these. PRO-TEC Part # 166MP FRAM Part # PH9837 WIX Part # 51522 ACDELCO Part # PF61 FRAM Part # TG9837 BOSCH Part # 3423
  9. Hey, no problem. If we were able to pull that off, I would just take off a couple of days and drink with you.
  10. Here is a write-up by Cougar that should show you where all the spacers and etc. go. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=515 As for the mufflers, I've had both sides off my '99 many times and have not yet needed to replace the gaskets.
  11. Sorry, I can't help because I just changed the entire rear end after getting it from SportMax. I understand that there are some critical clearances/adjustments that must be done correctly but I have no details.
  12. I think I'll stick with the Sunpro. I like the chrome and don't see why those would be worth double the price.

  14. Yes, there are a lot of 2" and up gauges to pick from but the 1 1/2" are a bit harder to find. The Sunpro that I posted the link to are 1 1/2" though.

  18. Well, it's not Banff but this looks like a beautiful place to stay. I was just swapping emails with Mark, the owner, last night. He is offering VentureRiders a 10% discount off their posted rates. I would love to spend a week...or month...or so....here. http://www.canadiancountrycabins.com/ I'll be adding them to the "Vendors who offer us Discounts" section later today.
  19. I'll try again. I got them at: ADVANCE AUTO PARTS :rotfl::rotfl: I just looked at the receipt again, the price was actually $29.88.

  21. Well, I was inspired by this thread so picked up a set of 1 1/2" Sunpro gauges today at Advance Auto Parts. Maybe I'll get around to installing them over the weekend, we'll see. These were $29.99. http://www.sunpro.com/product_detail.php?pid=16496

  23. I could tell several stories but will just add this one for now. I was living in Duncanville, TX. I was riding the '86 Harely FXRD at the time. Needed to make a quick trip to the store one day so just slip on a pair of tennis shoes and headed out. I don't remember the name of the intersection but it was a major one with a LOT of traffic that time of the day. I pulled up to the redlight and waited until the very last minute to put my feet down. Yep...the shoe laces on my left shoe were wrapped around the shift lever. I fell over like Arti on the tricycle on the old Laugh In TV show. Big cool biker on a Harley.......I REFUSED to look at anybody in all the cars around me.
  24. I'm really jealous of you Kent. I need to take a good ride worse than anybody knows. Wish I was with you now. Be safe and keep up updated.
  25. I agree...even if I were not able to ride and got in only a few miles, I would not let the oil sit in there for that long. If you ride it at ALL...I would recommend at least two changes a year. One in the fall and another in the spring.
