LOL....no....I do NOT have that installed here. I actually briefly considered it once a LONG time ago but just couldn't bring myself to do that to anybody.

R12Guy's membership expired in 2010. I just sent him an email to see if he still has it.

I've ridden the dragon several times. I've seen very bad crashes at least 3 times and at least two of those were due to head on collisions because somebody had crossed over that line. The worse I saw was not the bikers fault. A Mazda Miata came around a curve well across the center line and hit a sport bike head on.

I can't answer your question. I know that the one in my shield was for the 1500 but I don't know if the one for the 1800 is different or not. I know that it was not a perfect fit. The curvature was fine but the Clearview shield that I put it in was a bit too thick. I made it work but it wouldn't snap together like it is supposed to. I think I ended up using some clear silicone to hold it together.

Brookdale, Was it actually labeled as a Deka? I don't even need a battery I don't think but at that price, I would buy one anyway. They don't show any Deka batteries on their website and they don't show any specials on what they do have.

I've had the Goldwing center vent and the round vents on each side of it installed for probably 5 years now. So far, no issues at all. Now I'm not saying that it helps all that much to have three vents but that's just the way it ended up. I don't even remember why. If I were doing it again, I would probably just go with one or the other. After using both, I think that I actually prefer the Goldwing vent. The round ones work fine but you need to be VERY careful that you don't get the holes too big. I used the right hole saw and then just very lightly sanded the rough edges off and it is just loose enough that the vents sometimes will close on their own. On the other hand....they are easier to clean because they don't catch the bugs like the Wing vent does. For that reason, I actually prefer the round vents. But I do think that the Wing vent is a better operating mechanism. That is why I prefer the Wing vent. On the other hand, the round vents can be rotated to better direct the air flow and that is why I prefer the round vents. hmm.............I've confused me now.....

Yes, I think that is the problem. I've never heard of it either. Sorry, would like to be more help.

I think that this is the diagram for the RSTD bars and weights. You will see that item 4 is a long allen head bolt. The RSV does not have this bolt, they are a one piece machined piece. http://www.partshark.com/fiche_section_detail.asp?section=75066&category=Motorcycles&make=YAMAHA&year=2005&fveh=1732 Here is the list for the RSV, it does not have the bolt but the end of the weights are actually threaded instead. http://www.partshark.com/fiche_section_detail.asp?section=557621&category=motorcycles&make=YAMAHA&year=2008&fveh=12947

No, you are correct. They do have a hole for a hex wrench under the chrome cap. It turns the entire weight to screw them off though. I think he is saying that the RSTD has a separate long bolt that goes all the way through the weights. The RSV is all one machined piece.

windshield hardcoating
Freebird replied to Kirby's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I don't have a great answer but I know that too much polishing of a coated shield will remove and ruin the shield. I would think that any type of good plastic polish would remove it. Maybe one of the kits that they sell to restore the "yellowing" plastic headlights? To be honest, I pretty much considered a shield with the coating removed to be ruined. The coating adds hardness to resist scratches and etc. You will probably get by with it for a while but I wouldn't expect it to look good for very long. It may last a long time if you are VERY careful with how you clean it though.- 7 replies

I don't think so. My '99 has the same kind as you are picturing. I think he is saying that the RSTD weight have a allen head bolt that goes all the way through the weights and then into a threaded hole in the end of the bars. If I read it correctly.

I agree. It is possible that he was pulled over on the other side of the road though and just pulling back on. Still a dangerous place to do it but I would rather believe that than consider the possibility that he had drifted that far into the other lane.

I agree that they make sense. Once you get used to them, they are much better that red lights. I've actually seen quite a few in the newer suburbs in Michigan.

Yes, that is correct. There are actually a number of different parts that can interchange with the ones that he listed. There are several brands and models of bases for example. Also, if you don't want to remove the seat, tank, fairing and etc., you can just cut the end off the existing AM/FM cable and solder a coax connector to it. The fold overs are optional. They are handy if you use a cover on your bike but otherwise, not necessary and though I do have them on mine, I think you are better off without them UNLESS you cover your bike.

I had a Memphis Fats on a '95 Honda Shadow Ace and it was really a nice shield. I just looked for you though and they are as much as the one that you priced.

There are some. I've been going around one every day for the past couple of days to get to my hotel in Syracuse, NY. There is also one about 7 miles from my house in the little town of LaGrange. Actually, I've seen more over the past couple of years than I remember in the past.

I don't think the bike is the trailer queen...you will have to look in the mirror to find it.

I didn't even know that you could SAY Harley Guy and Brain in the same sentence. JUST KIDDING...I have owned Harley's and we like all brands here...gotta razz you a bit though. To be honest, I would sincerely suspect that the electronics guy missed a cold solder. You can't always see them. The normal way to do it is to hit all the pins with the soldering iron to be sure. Several folks have done it a couple of times before the issue was resolved.

Adjusting throttle cables
Freebird replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yea but the bad part is, I became very familiar with all of that when I installed my Flanders bars and the SS throttle cables. It was about 3 years ago but ....... anyway........old age is NOT all it's cracked up to be. -
Yea, 30 minutes is probably what it took me. The CB side only runs under the trunk. I picked up a short (about 12") adapter at a local truck stop that converted from the Motorola type plug to the standard coax connector. Just screw it onto the antenna and then plug it into the female Motorola connector that comes out of the CB box. On the FM side, I just cut the Coax and soldered the connector onto the existing cable. I didn't have to pull the seat, tank, fairing, etc. I did all of this several years ago and it's worked fine.

Adjusting throttle cables
Freebird replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yes but the junction box where the cables connect is mounted on the left side of the frame just under the gas tank, towards the front. It is a black somewhat circular black box. You will see three cables connecting to it. One goes to the throttle, one to the carbs and one exits the bottom and goes to the cruise module inside the lower cowling.
