  1. That is scary!!!!! I thought my email was massive!!! The counter at the side of the site reports 171,591 posts!!! You must be nuts.
  2. Glad you had a great trip Mike.
  3. That's why I posted a link to this site. http://www.gasbuddy.com/ Rant all you want about gas. This is a cool Nation Wide map of gas prices. http://www.gasbuddy.com/gb_gastemperaturemap.aspx
  4. Prices go up when a hurricane threatens Gulf Rigs and Texas Oil refineries. This is normal when a threat to supply is perceived. Your local gas station has little choice when their supplier raises their prices. And in states like MN we have a mandated by law minimum price at which gas stations can sell their gas. That price is based on the daily price at the suppliers even if the station did not buy any new gas that day. Relax it will pass with the storm. http://www.gasbuddy.com/ Rant all you want about gas. 5. Dang your a young one and I'm too young to be saying that. I'm only 40. I cannot find any reference to that song on the internet. However, I found out that God Rides a Yamaha. Kathy Shaidle's "God Rides a Yamaha" http://bookreviewsandmore.ca/2006/07/god-rides-yamaha-by-kathy-shaidle.html
  6. I just purchased and installed the LED Tail Light for Yamaha Road Star and V-Star. It is made by Radiantz. (I bought mine from Bikerhiway.com. I recommend them. They had this to me in 2.5 days and that was normal low price shipping via USPS.) http://www.bikerhiway.com/led-tail-light-for-yamaha-road-star-and-vstar-p-176.html I first saw this on Norm's bike while following Norm and Kim on a ride in bright daylight at Pork in the Pines. I kept noticing his LED tail/brake lights. They are real bright LED's. I was amazed by brightness and I decided to buy one after he told me it only cost $53. I put mine on this evening using the stock red plastic taillight lens and it is very bright. Much brighter than the plain old 1157 light bulb. I won't even bother buying a clear lens. It also includes 3 bright white LED's to light up your license plate. For those that want to brighten up the back end of your bike this will do it at a bargain price. I also just installed the Back-Off XP module (from CruiserCustomizing) before going to Pork in the Pines and this LED board works great with that module. When hitting the brakes the LED board flashes quickly and brightly.
  7. I have to give praise when deserved. Norm from Montana turned me on to these people. http://www.bikerhiway.com/ I just purchased and installed the LED Tail Light for Yamaha Road Star and V-Star from them. I placed the order Sunday evening via their website. Early Monday morning I had an email from them saying it had already shipped. When I got home today (Wednesday) the package was sitting on my desk. It took them 2.5 days to ship me the LED tail lights. Very cool!!! Oh and these LED tail light bulb replacement board is super bright!!! Read my review here.
  8. Dang Larry, looks like you take a few short cuts? That was the longest return trip home considering you only live a 220 miles from Gary's place. I've spent a fair amount of time on the road from Ely to Lake Superior back when I lived up in Ely. Good twists and turns. SW Wisconsin is also great. If your looking to do a vacation there sometime check out the Brewery Creek bed and Breakfast. We've stayed there once. Great owners and great B&B. Plus if you like good beer they have there own micro-brewery and pub on site. Cheers
  9. I know that sound all too well also, I grew up in my Dad's gas station garage. I've changed/re-mounted thousands of tires. Every now and again we'd do a spit rim. We did not have the safety cage for doing those. We would lock on the air hose and get away. One day a tire blew and the rim put a ring shape indentation in the garage ceiling. Were talking a high 30+ foot ceiling. Those things are scary. As for passing trucks, I always do it as fast as possible.
  10. Buddy, Will you be selling the mounts also?
  11. I know Mikealiasmike put one on his RSTD. I don't remember the brand, but it had lights and a quick release mount. I helped him wire up the lights with a quick release plug at last years Pork in the Pines. See if he uploaded any photos.
  12. I just got off the phone with John "Baron" Vaughan-Chaldy of Baron Customizing. He is shipping me a different set of boards. The Short Boards. http://www.baronscustom.com/catalog/display/795/index.html They have more adjustability and DO move the foot position forward 2.5 to 3 inches. He sent me photos from the RSTD they installed them on this morning. Also, he did find out that the design for the mounting brackets DID CHANGE and do cause the fitment problems I pointed out. They were unaware of the change and the problems caused. They are researching and taking corrective action. By this Friday I should have the new boards to tryout. Their test fitment of the Short Boards.
  13. I already sent them a link to this thread in my response to their response. When I get the money I was really looking forward to buying the V Four chrome timing and water pump covers from Baron Accessories.
  14. I emailed both Barons and Cruiser Customizing about my displeasure with the Baron Passenger floorboards and the fact that they are not as advertised. To be real clear. Cruiser Customizing has done nothing wrong. The are simply reselling the Baron product using the Baron marketing text. Baron Accessories has just responded. They are as I type getting an RSV in the shop and installing a set to verify my claims. So far their response is perfect. They want to verify the claim and resolve the issue. Here is their full response. Wil, Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We will look into the situation right away, in fact my R&D staff is rolling a Venture Frame (RSTD) onto the lift at this time and pulling the parts you are referencing to be able to check the details of the design against our notes to see if something has changed, we will also look at our marketing details to be sure of where the issue lies. Your letter was quite shocking to receive just regarding the legroom issue and that knowledge whether received by phone or and email would have had us looking into the situation Our reputation stands for itself, we’ve never been accused of anything like what you are accusing us of at this time. Your statement “I will contact the Minnesota State Attorney General office about your false advertising and the U.S. Postal Service about possible mail fraud” has us wondering if something else happened that would cause you to feel you would need to go to such lengths? We would never knowingly make a claim that was untrue and are researching why/how this situation occurred. Be assured we will be looking into all of this. In the meantime I would appreciate being able to speak with you regarding the entire situation. I would hate to lose a customer over something like this so please call me at x-xxx-xxx-xxxx or xxx-xxx-xxxx be assured that whatever the situation is our goal is to have customers that are satisfied and to that end we do everything we can to find the cause of any issue brought to our attention and correct it moving forward. The good news is that we really care about what we do and I am certain we have a floorboard product that does provide the extended legroom you are looking for and one that you will be 100% satisfied that I will happily provide to you. I look forward to hearing from you and getting you and your wife riding in more comfort. Additionally please advise me of the forum message board where you have posted so that I can read what was and is being posted. Thank you. Regards, John "Baron" Vaughan-Chaldy Baron Custom Accessories
  15. It sounds like you have the Titanium Grey/Marble Silver RSV. For all the great details of the history of the Venture check out the history page. http://www.venturerider.org/modules/history/index.php#1999-Present
  16. Oh I've tried every possible way to mount these with out cutting them up. The issue is false advertising. They claim to move the foot position forward and offer MORE and EXTENDED leg room. These cut the leg room down by about 3 inches. The only adjusting is the angle of the floorboard; flat, tilted or more tilted.
  17. I tried that already. Only if I take a saws all and cut off my exhaust.
  18. I've tried the Diamond R passenger pegs already. Those didn't help. All you guys got short wives. My wife is 5'8"ish. Her legs are longer. Anything that makes her fold up her legs more is bad. My complaint with the Barons is the false advertising. They claim to move the foot position more forward and offer extended leg room. That is an outright lie. For people that need LESS leg room so their passenger can more easily reach the pegs these would be great. They just do not do what they claim. And considering the price I'm really pissed off!
  19. I finally got my Barons Passenger Floor boards. They are about to get hit with mail fraud charges. These floorboards are NOT as advertised. The pictures my wife took make this fact very clear. To take the photos I set the bike up on the lift with just enough support to stand the bike up without lifting it off the ground. My wife set her camera on her tripod. We made sure that nothing moved while we took the photos. This is the marketing for these from Barons: "Eliminate the whine from your passenger seat. When your legs get stiff and cramped, you can stretch out on your highway pegs, but what about your passenger? Baron’s floorboards offer extended and improved legroom, as well as multiple adjustment angles for better foot support. Mounting Brackets are sold separately Positions feet in a more comfortable, forward location from stock." http://www.baronscustom.com/catalog/display/788/index.html http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?Category_ID=55&manufacturer_ID=167&product_ID=3515&model_ID=10&query=Model_42%20barons Here are the photos: Stock floorboards, Barons, the two superimposed, and then me holding the stock on next to the Barons. The photos clearly show they DO NOT move the foot position forward offering no improved or extended legroom. From what I can tell this is complete false advertising. Come Monday they are not going to be happy with me. I double checked the mounting brackets and they are the correct brackets according to the package and the website.
  20. I think my misunderstanding was that I thought the tongue weight was supposed to be 10 to 15 pounds.
  21. Well the record is still unbroken so you have a chance at trying or both. Personally I'll sit back at watch. That's a wee bit faster than I need to go.
  22. That sounds like one of the books I had to read as a Navy Corpsman.
  23. This spring I bought Black Owl's custom built trailer and we pulled it for the first time to and from Pork in the Pines. Its a custom frame (don't know which brand) and a Sears car top carrier. The 15 CUFT version kinda like this one [/url]http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_02872016000P). I was impressed at how well it handled especially in the strong winds we had. It pulled easy. No swaying caused by the wind. I felt it in first and second gear, but after that there was no sense of having a trailer behind me. Except when we hit a really big dip in the road then I felt an extra yank on the bike. When we got home I weighed the trailer. (yeah I know, I should have check the weights BEFORE leaving.) The trailers total weight loaded with all of our gear and our tiny little tent (see PiP 2008 Pics) came in at 370 pounds. The tongue weight was 33 pounds. I will have to look into the way we packed that little beast to possibly lower the tongue weight. Maybe move the spare tire further back. Someday I hope to build a new body that looks good and is still functional and light weight.
  24. I know we want to travel to other parts of the country and hit local roads like the Blue Ridge mountains or Tail of the Dragon. Heck I want to hit the Florida Keys someday. I have thought about renting one of those motor homes with bike garages a few times. They look a very comfortable way to travel and then enjoy a few days of riding.
  25. Actually your pay grade in basic is still E-1, but at the end you get moved to E-3 and I think you even get retro pay. At least that's how they did it when I was in if you could get your friends to also enlist.
