1. Ready and waiting! Leaving out @7:00 am friday morning, gonna spend the afternoon and evening looking around Beale St in Memphis. See you all on saturday!
2. It looks like there will be eight of us from North Alabama, we are going over on the 5th and looking at Beale St. in Memphis. Coming over that early on sat. morning has been a chilly ride at times! We will see you there.
3. There will be several of us from North Alabama, looks like about ten or twelve. I think the RMH would be a good choice this year.
4. Hey Lewis, I will be coming and it looks like i may be bringing about ten or twelve folks with me. I have eight who have committed and a couple of other couples who aren't sure yet. Something about that place....... once you see it you just want to go back every year. Seems like I may need to ups those shirts out to you, my MIL may not be going back home for a couple more weeks!
5. The NARR group had it's October meeting tonight and we have over 1000.00 pledged for next years St Judes event! No competition next year but I would like to see these two groups get together and present at the same time again. We had so many members who made their first visit to the hospital and were deeply moved by the experience. We had the drawing for the handmade quilt that we raffled off as part of our fundraising effort and a lady whos adult daughter is fighting cancer was the winner.
6. Hey man, you might want to get that camera checked out. Every picture you took of me makes me look fat!
7. No Sir! I beg to differ! There were NO losers at St Judes this year! This was one of the most uplifting trips ever. Everyone involved in this deal is a winner! Thanks to all.
8. Lewis, looks like there will be about twenty from Alabama. Some of the ones who want to be there are still saying that it depends on the weather.
9. Sent you my donation last week, Even though I am a Member of both groups, I have donated exactly the same amount of cash to each. I have done more soliciting of donations and helped with the sales more for the NARR group because of the location of the group. I personally don't care who wins the "challenge" as long as those kids get to benefit from it! 10,000 dollars! WOW!!! That would be awesome! It is certainly within reach but we are not done yet! We still have a couple of weeks and my wifes sister has donated a hand made quilt to be raffled off at 5 bucks a ticket, as of yesterday she has sold 54 tickets by herself and has set her goal at 100!! Keep in mind that this was a two part challenge! the first part was that the NARR group could raise more money than the Ventureriders, the second part of the challenge was that NARR could bring more people to participate in the cruise to St Judes! I can't wait to see how this will turn out! Oh by the way if any of you folks want to buy a raffle ticket I still have plenty:hurts:
10. Nah! You don't know!
11. North Alabama Road Riders A very small group of fellow bikers who challenged the Ventureriders to see who could raise the most money for St Judes this year.
12. Agree 100% Lewis!
13. Glad to hear that the Vogel Rally was a success and that everyone made it home safe! Just as an update I would like to let the members know that the NARR group had another fundraiser this weekend and it turned out pretty good as well. We set up a booth at a local car show and sold popcorn, sno-cones and some of the nastiest messiest stuff that has ever been invented......also know as cotton candy! That stuff does not work well when it is 95 degrees and about 85% humidity but it sure does sell! We had a really good turnout and had a net profit of..... oh wait a minute that is supposed to be a secret! We have enjoyed this challenge but in the end the challenge is secondary to what our real goal is and we can't wait to see what these two groups have taken in together for the kids! There were actually two parts to this challenge, one was that the NARR bunch could bring in more money than the Ventureriders and the second one was that NARR could bring more people to St Judes for the tour and to present the donation. I don't know exactly how many folks will be coming from Alabama at this time but I would love to see more people from both groups than ever before.
14. I hope you all have a great and safe time! I will be at a car show selling snow cones and popcorn to little kids with cotton candy all over them! This will be the last fund raiser for the NARR group before we all go to St Judes! I hope that the Ventureriders have a good turnout as well. Lewis, I will get my check out to you when you have recovered from this weekend. Look forward to seeing you all again this year at St Judes!
15. anytime you want it.
16. I had the same problem when I first bought my rsv and I installed some 1.5" handlebar risers and it fixed the problem instantly.
17. 32 members to be exact! We have about 20 active members but those 20 are fired up for this challenge! I cannot discuss the amounts but I can tell you that the ventureriders will have to beat their previous best year to beat the "Ragtags" This may well turn into a real David vs Goliath battle. I will agree that it is a whole lot easier for a small local group to get together and pull in funds but the sheer numbers of the Ventureriders should prove to be the biggest challenge.
18. Residential a/c should be R-22, you may have a hard time buying it. Used to be able to buy it in small cans but I havent seen any of those in a long time.

Bear

We were in Yellowstone last Sept. and traffic was at a crawl, we knew it was probably due to wildlife but we were thinking bison as we had been seeing them all day. We were stuck behind a large rv and we would pull up about 10 feet and stop for a couple of minutes. There were cars parked on both sides of the road for approx a hundred yards, when we finally got to the end of the cars here was this bear. Right beside the road and the rv stopped so that we were dead even with the bear! Told my wife to keep snapping pictures but be quiet and don't startle the bear! After about two minutes the rv finally moved on and we were able to get some distance between us. This bear was literally about ten feet from us, it never looked up at us. I would guess this one was probably about 350 or 400 pounds. It was definately bigger than any I have ever seen around the southeast.
20. It's all them there dirt roads in Tennessee, too much dust and stuff!
21. We had our monthly meeting tonight and I am happy to say that the Alabama folks are ready for this St Jude challenge. At this point it looks like everyone is on board and excited about getting out and raising money for this very worthy cause. We may see the participation dwindle some as the year wears on but for right now it looks like we may actually have a shot at victory! I am a member of both groups so I will try to stay sort of nuetral and help both sides. Just hope everyone remembers what this is really about and keeps it fun. I have been accused of being a spy for the Venturerider group already so I will not divulge any information about amounts raised by either side. The Road riders do not have a website but are on Facebook under NARR if there is any info on there then it is public and can be accessed by any inquiring minds.
22. I agree with you 100% about Jimmy underestimating the size of the group that he challenged. That was the first comment I made to him when I learned about his challenge. Personally I don't think it should matter where the money comes from since it is going to a worthy cause anyway. We all know that there is no way a group of 35 folks can even begin to compete with a group the size of Ventureriders without getting donations from non members. I would suggest that we don't have a lot of rules about where the $$ comes from as long as it is legal. If this little competition motivates people to get out and pick up donations from businesses or other groups it is all the better for the cause! Just my .02
23. jimherring61@yahoo.com He is known far and wide as Little Jimmy and he loves to talk smack. Will be interesting to see how this all turns out! Also, one of our members owns an engraving and awards shop and said he would be happy to donate a trophy for the winner.
24. I thought he looked an awful lot like Jimmy Johnson
25. WOW!! I was surprised to hear that someone who I invited to this event issued a challenge like that! I had no prior knowledge of his intent to do that. I would rather have seen the NARR join in with the Ventureriders and see how much we could raise together but since the challenge has already been issued and accepted I will have to work with it that way. I do believe that Jimmie may be a little over optimistic about our fund raising ability since the NARR only has about 35 members but we will see what we can do. I for one am proud to be a member of both groups and will step up and say that I will double what I contributed this year and it will be split evenly between the two organizations. As long as this deal is kept friendly and we don't lose sight of what is really the goal which is helping these kids recieve the help that they need I will be happy to help either side in any way possible. I believe that the 18000 dollar figure must have been the Goldwingers deal and that was way before I joined either group. Now, let me tell you folks a little bit about the NARR. This is a very close group of folks who share both a love of motorcycles and a great fondness for fellowship and good times. We have only one rule and that is " there are no rules". Like a lot of other small groups, we hang out and enjoy each others company as often as possible and we welcome anyone who wants to share in those good times. No invitation is ever needed, just show up and have fun! We normally donate to a local charity at the end of every year but I think I know where that donation will go this year! Let's get this thing started and see what we can all do for this very good cause!
