  1. I learned a hard lesson today. If you mess with the laws of gravity, something is going to get dented! I had my bike sitting in the driveway idling. It must have been on a slight incline and the vibrations must have moved it slightly forward. As I turned around I got to witness the bike going over on its side. Sad day for me. I picked it up and was thankful that the crash bars were there and did their job as the tank did not get bent. The worst thing was the head light rim got dented and scratched along with the left had top portion of the windshield. Anyone know where I can get a new headlight rim? Don't mess with gravity!
  2. I had the same kind of clicking sound out of the rear end. Brought it to the dealer and they took it all apart. Put it back together and it was still there. They called their Yamaha contacts who told them to take it all apart again and grease everything. They did and it was GONE. Took most of the day, but the clocking sound has not come back.
  3. What a conicidence! I had just finished a trip to the Dragon and back home to Virginia when the clicking started. VERY loud and kind of disconcerting. I happened to be in the town I bought the bike, so I stopped by the dealership and talked to the service guy. He came out and (thankfully) heard the clicking as well! He took it to the back and 4 and a 1/2 hours later after taking the back wheel off 2 x and consulting with the reps from Yamaha and doing what they suggested-lubricating everything...the clicking is gone. This is the 3rd bike I have purchased from this dealer. I have moved 3 hours away. They could have very easily told me to go on my merry way, but the service manager said "you bought it from us, I want to make sure it is right!" I HIGHLY recommend Wayne Cycle Shop in Waynesboro, Virginia to anyone who might be rolling through the Shenandoah Valley and experience problems.

  5. Went to Deals Gap and rode the Dragon this past Monday.....survived it! Not that anxious in making it a pilgramage, but it was fun to do once! I can cross that one off of my bucket list!
  6. Hey all. I am a mechanical idiot. Now that I have gotten that out of the way....I have 2 questions....a gas question and an oil question. Gas-can anyone tell me the benefit of putting the high test gasoline in? I have had my RSTD since April and the dealer told me to put in the high end gas. Why? Oil-How often do you folks change the oil? Someone will be proud of me...I actually learned how to do it and took care of my bike. I appreciate the wisdom and feedback from the site. Thanks!
  7. Can anyone recommend a good cleaner in a can? There are times that I just do not have the time to wash the bike.....how about what to clean the windshield with? Thanks in advance for the feedback!
  8. I am so glad I have generated some discussion in this forum! Thanks to all of you for the input and for educating the NEWBIE on the features I had, but did not read about in the manual. If it wasn't a picture in the book....I probably did not read it! Does the RSTD have the tip over shutoff?
  9. Ok...here goes....dumb new owner question.....do the turn signals on the RSTD turn off automatically? It seems to me that sometimes they do, and sometimes they do not.....I could not find anything in the manual about it....is this a feature I have, but did not know about?
  10. Has anyone found a harmless, yet effective manner in which to remove the darn sticker they put on the gas tank that says read the manual, wear a helmet, and good luck getting this off??? I am anti-tank damage when it comes to getting this thing off. I cannot believe in this day and age of static stickers and technology that they would not have a better way. Any and all advice is welcome!
  11. Sure Duke! Send me a message if you are ever looking for company!
  12. Well.....after months of intense negotiations with the personal financial planner at my house(the Mrs.) I am the proud owner of a new 2008 RSTD! Took delivery of it today. Had to ride 180 miles to get it and then just HAD to ride 180 miles home....darn! I bought this bike after selling the Vulcan 750 I had. I did not test drive one....just sat on it in the shop many times.....today on the way home today....it was so much better than I had anticipated! Very cool bike! I look forward to sharing adventures with all of you!
  13. Dave, I look forward to hearing about your seat experience! I am waiting to take delivery of an 08 RSTD NEXT WEEK! I am by no means wanting to shell out $500.00 for a new seat on a new bike. The website looked pretty good. Again, I look forward to hearing about the new seat.
  14. Looking to get AFFORDABLE motorcycle insurance for my 2008 RSTD. Any recommendations?
  15. Ok....my Vulcan sold on Friday! WOO HOOOOO! I went to the bike shop on Saturday....they already had my 2008 RSTD assembled for me to look at! Got to fire it up and sit on it......not overly exciting for some, but damn exhilerating for me! Going back to pick it up in 2 weeks! Damn family trip to Alasha for a week getting in the way of getting the bike! Oh well. Thanks for allowing me to share!
  16. Was curious if you had pictures of what you did to the mufflers? I am getting my 2008 RSTD in 2 weeks, I like the stock muffler looks.....but would not mind a little rumble.
  17. If I have to die of SOMETHING.......let it be from my bike! I thought I had heard everything....that one is too much!
