Dangerous wobble at 55mph and above.
Marcarl replied to HunterMC's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Bearings too loose and you will get a wobble that can go to a tank slapper. Bearings too tight and the bike will want to do it's own thing seemingly, actually what happens is that the bike will no longer have it's own built-in 'come back to straight' because the drag on the steering head overcomes it. Did you know that a 2 wheel bike, left on it's own devices, actually will stay up straight and go straight forward as long as there is drive on the rear wheel? Pretty much impossible to demonstrate, but there have been occasions where it has happened. So if you get the steering too tight (which also acts as a steering damper of sorts) the bike will be restricted to self correct and come back to center. This will cause a wandering and a feeling of lost control for the rider. -

Now don't go getting him totally confused,,, it's bad enough as it is. -
Lost a fuse I bet. Check all fuses, both sides while installed, might be the answer. Actually, check the wires at both ends. The fuse holders get to be a problem after a few years, and yours would be way over due.

A man after my own heart,,,,, Fluid Film!!! use it for everything, but does not do well for a penetrating oil, unless you have a week to wait for it to work and you can keep things warm. On the truck fender issue though: couple of years ago I took my 08 Ram in for it's annual treatment at Rust Check, and after it was done I talked to the guy and asked him how come the rear fenders were bubbling, did he not get the product in there or what. He proceeded to remove the rear taillight and showed me all the 'oil' in there and said it was not for lack of Rust Check, but also couldn't enlighten me as to why the bubbles. This fall I got around to sanding down the bubbles and provide a fix before rot showed up. I found one (1) tinny hole under the paint, that was all, so the rust was not coming from inside the fender. What I did find was that the paint on the underside of the fender, the part that curves around to join the inner skirt, was loosing it's paint big time, and that moisture had creeped up the outside, and so got things rusty. So watch that part of the wheel-well, I know I will.

And here I thought that all 91 was ethanol free.

Carb diaphragm replacement question
Marcarl replied to bobber's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
No glue needed or wanted, it will distort the diaphram. Seeing as you got them from China, be prepared to replace them soon, so if you discover issues again, check them for problems first. -
The Sexy2timer is now at home with the new owner. Hopefully Dave will post what he is going to do to her and seek our approval,,,,,, yah!!! Right,, but maybe he will keep us updated.

Just came upon this as well, how did I miss it??? Don't know. The lack of input though, might have more to do with nobody knowing any real good answers, more so than no interest. So I think you are in untested new territory, so go for it and let us know how things turn out. You're the the only one looking to increase the size of the rear tire.
-
Can you get me one like that?? Ohhhh I suppose it's home made eh?
-
Probably your pictures are too large, try downsizing them. I never used the map, but it's places you have ridden, any scoot will do, we're not brand possessive.

Funny,,,, I see nothing worth the while to rope anybody about,,, what you're looking at is a thing of beauty. 'course, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, maybe you needs to take a second look. That's money and employment that you are looking at,, a literal gold mine,,,, way to go fool!!!

Rally @ the shores 2020 info only plz
Marcarl replied to BIG TOM's topic in VentureRider Regional Rallies
So now a heads up for some new info. Some of us have received phone calls from Niagara Shores with respect to payment for the rally next year, and some maybe still to come. This is an explanation: Dave and Erney have been working very hard at getting their grounds and programs ready and running. They have run into numerous hitches and setbacks, but they remain undeterred. This is their first crack at doing such a thing, and seeing as 'good enough' is just not their norm, it has been a challenge. What has been put in place so far is super, dooper!!! But, like I said there are hickups,, one being the registration/reservation process, and that is what concerns us with the phone calls presently. The boys had to go to an on-line reservation company to keep their heads on straight so to speak, but that proved to be a problem when it came to our reservations for the rally next year, for the prices would be increased about 10% overall. Dave and Erney considered this, had dialogue with the on-line folks and then decided that the best way for them to honor their prices would be to have all the monies taken care of before the January takeover of the registrations. Hench they put Heidi to work to call us all, to inform us of the problem and the process to get around the price increase and also to keep the on-line folks happy. Hoping this all works out, great guys these boys are, others might just have informed us that,, Opps, the prices had to go up. So you have a choice, pay now and get the promised price, or wait until after January and pay the extra for reservation fees. I paid now. -
Nothin' but a bunch of Fluff!!

Well I guess we can let the poor thing out. Congrats to @dfitzbiz,,, Dave, Dave is patiently waiting for the lawyer to finish changing the title, and so in the process I was in the forgetful mode to post the results. I'm sure he will enjoy the ride once he gets her.

Fool ain't fool enough to send a load our way, he knows we'll just send him more areas to cover, we just had a dusting this morning, maybe more on Sunday.

It's always good practice that once you have made any adjustments to a screw to blip the throttle a couple of times to make sure everything is seated properly in it's new position, and then adjust again if necessary. I also like to clean and use a light lube on the linkage before I start so that might eliminate any hangups from dirt and stickiness.

shift shaft wobbles and leaks oil
Marcarl replied to SundanceKid's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Not that it hasn't happened, but this is the first time that I have heard of that. I'm thinking that the shaft going through the stator cover got bent, so what I would suggest is to remove the stator cover and see what happens then. Check the shaft for true and any burrs and wear. It could be that a previous owner had taken the cover off and upon re-install got the knuckle of the shifter wrong ( it needs to be in the up postion) and then forced it together and in doing so, bent the shaft, or bent the shaft to make it fit. Maybe then later realized that the shifter worked backwards and then corrected the error and was left with a leak,, to which he said,,,, oh the heck and sold the scoot. Just my guess though. -
Thanks to all for coming out to this event: Becky for opening the door and being nice. Ed for showing up with the hauler and encouragement and help Jim for staying around to load stuff into the truck, and entertainment during lunch. Ben for being a mekcaneck and giving all around advice. Carl, for getting Ben there safely. Last but not least, Frogger for the hug. And all the others who didn't show up so we didn't have to deal with that as well. We had a good time,,,, I think, took about 2 hrs,,,, yah, Jim had stories to tell,,but Ed left with Blondie and all her worldly possessions. She certainly was a shopper, for all her extra paraphernalia took up all of the back of the pickup and then some. Ed will have a few days of entertainment trying to sort through it all. Becky now has more room in her garage and she found the door opener,,, it was on the other right!!

Did it come with new tires?

I had to wait for you to make sure it was safe, #244

We could do that, but @saddlebum is somewhat directionally challenged, and getting lost is not one of the things he likes to do,,, especially when he's following a Spyder through unknown gravel territory.
