  1. The splines look in good shape, just clean and lubricate, but use the right stuff or next time you'll need to replace the hub in the wheel,,,, yes, it'll wear that fast!!!
  2. Hey,, how come you have so many birthdays,,,,, Don't matter, glad you had another one, and wish you many more to come.
  3. Yep, I would say you need new bearings. The one you show is the needle bearing, only available from Yamaha. The other can be found a lot cheaper at you local bearing store. Change both and the seals. The bearings are held in place with a spacer between them. To get them out you need to use a long punch from the opposite side, one side goes easier than the other. Move the spacer over with the punch until you can get the punch on the bearing andd then drive it out. The bearing will be destroyed in the process. Once the one side is out, the other is easier. You may have to work at moving the spacer, there may be some crud holding it from wiggling it over. Also, shows us a picture of your spline, to make sure it's still serviceable.
  4. I'm not old enough,,, I guess.
  5. Ask the Master of all Wisdom to enlighten you as to what you should do, and then follow His guidance. After that, be at peace that He might know better than you, or your advisers.
  6. Just my luck,,, I won't make it to the bridge and then the deed will be gone.
  7. I'm not big enough to be a pain in the neck,, so it can't be me!!!
  8. Nah,,, Tweety is just sitting thinking,,, let me at him, let me at him,, or is it a her,, well in that case, she's not going!!!
  9. Wow,, that's a nice number,, now that you are used to each other, go have some fun!!
  10. Should have closed all the windows first,,, man you guys!
  11. It's dinner time, I can feel it,, and he's taking you out,,, I just know it. Happy Birthday little one, enjoy this one and many more to come.
  12. Cleaning the contacts would be very helpful, but seeing as dielectric grease is waht it is, it's not supposed to conduct electricity. For this reason it is advisable to clean the contacts, put them together and if you do want to use the grease, smear it on the outside of the connectors to keep the water out.
  13. We practiced that maneuver a number of times. We were riding an 85, with passenger floor boards. If Marca stayed put, feet on boards and hands on grab rails, she came out maybe a little dusty, but totally unscathed. When she tried some sort of rescue, either for herself or the bike, it always seemed to hurt somewhere. So she stays put, put!!!
  14. I have a stock windshield with wings,,, oh wait, you don't want her test riding a 1st gen, eh?? you might have to buy another scoot.
  15. Yep!!! he's just not quite sure yet as to how fast a Spyder is,,, I think:think:
  16. It could be a little pin that keeps the large bearings from spinning in the case. Take a look where the bearing seats in the case, if there is a hole there for a pin, you need to have a pin there.
  17. Thanks Ben. It's good to be a part of this family. I think I'll stick around for while. And yes, the ladies didn't seem to mind each others' company,, there were no scratch marks, the furniture was still in place, the neighbours were all still home and there were no black and whites parked on the street,,, guess it worked out OK!
  18. Two things I think you might have missed, first is to make sure the battery terminals are not loose or corroded on the cable, and the other is that the ground is clean and tight on the engine side of the black, ground cable. When you check the battery terminals, grab the cables and try to remove them from the terminals, and don't be gentle, give them a good hard twist and pull, if they stay, well and good, if they come out, you might have found your problem.
  19. Been there, done that,, maybe next time you need to scratch your head when the lot is full with only one empty spot,,,,, Why is nobody parking there??,,,,, you were probably # 15 for the day and they probably had a crew on site to get bikes back up. Yep, next comes the gas pump,, just stay out of farmers' fields, they can get lumpy. And that's what you get for not inviting company!
  20. Wow, you guys are moving along,, not hard to do on a 1st gen eh?? Lucky you didn't get a hold of me for the Windy City tour,, we might have got you some U-turns,,, or maybe a few more than a few,,, but farmers' fields are hard to come by, so I would have had to give up. When I ride I stay away from places like that,,,FAR away!!! Carry on McDuff!
  21. 6:30
  22. You must have been trying to follow me yesterday!
  23. We do what we can and when ever we can,, just glad to able to be there when it was opportunistic. You'll need some carb cleaner, a small tap with a big hammer and a place to flush that needle valve through.
  24. Rick Butller is on holidays, so that's out for now. Day-long will take me out of riding for at least 4 weeks,, bad time of year for that. Corbin has not had good reviews all around,,, some have been positive, but not as positive as Ultimate. Price is the best on Ultimate. Somebody said they exchanged the Corbin for an Ultimate and now are happy. Looks like I got lots to chew on, and sounds like Ultimate might win out. What I did on the Venture was to dig 2 holes under my butt bones, which is where my problems were originating. That helped a lot when riding solo, but with Marca on the back I would sit straighter up and so the holes didn't help much. Now on the Spyder the butt bones don't seem to be an issue, I just get numb and burning across my whole butt. I also feel like I'm being pushed forward some,,, so lots of fun,,,, but I tell you though, the way to forget about all that is to hit the throttle @ 4000rpms,,,, whoa baby, sit down, shut-up and hang on!!!!
  25. Wow!!!!! you is lucky,,, all you got out that deal was leaky carbs???,, we could have helped you with more persistent values,,, like maybe a leaky tire, or a Brake Pad gone loose,,,, or maybe a coolant leak,,, we went easy one you THIS time. And hey!!! this is a free country, and you can go where you wish,,, you could even have come along with us,, but then you would have had to endure what we said about you,,, man your head would be twice the size it is now. And as for your mother-in-law,,, she's got to be a real nice lady,,, hey! she lives in the same house as you, don't forget,,,, and who was there to greet us when we rolled in???? none other than your lovely wife,, Next time, we'll buy you one,,, sorry for not specially inviting you,,,we should have been more considerate.
