  1. Or early ('02-'05) Road Star Warrior or Late Model ('08-up) Road Star have the same 4-pot calipers. You'll also need the matching Master and these come in chrome. On the same note, does anyone know if the late model floating rotors are a direct swap?
  2. I ordered the "Custom-Build" Hagon for $469 and asked the same question. The shock comes with the preload and rebound set to the weight & riding style you tell them.
  3. Certain model Garmin GPS are 12v to the cradle then the voltage drop is handled between the cradle & gps. I think the old Nuvi 7x5 & 8x5 models and various Zumo models are cradle powered.
  4. Again, Mixed feeling. What if there wasn't a car there and MC and passanger hit a duck. What if it was a deer standing on the road; MC and passenger die as a result of a wildlife collision. The details aren't really discussed; did she leave her car in the lane of traffic or was it pulled to she shoulder? If she left her car in the lane of traffic I agree that some responsibility does fall on her. How much I couldn't tell you, but what if it was a case of a broke down car left there, would she still be at fault. You hate to wish ill will on anyone, and there are so many what if's in this case.
  5. I purchased some inexpensive Drag Specialties 1" Frame Clamps, they can be had on ebay for under $10 each. Then scour ebay or craigslist for someone selling a used set of kuryakyn or HD pegs that will bolt right into the frame clamps on the bars. I got a set of ISO-Pegs for $20 used on ebay; $40 total price installed.
  6. Crap, leaving for Florida to see some family the next day...Lets see how I can schmooze out of helping to pack.
  7. If it includes the breweries (and not the BIG one) I'd be in, as I'm sure I'd get 1 or two more to ride up with me.
  8. What's easiest to have two big guys toss into the back of a truck: 400-500 lb "sport" bike or 900 lb cruiser. Seen video of a van pulling to the side of the road and two guys tossing a sport bike into the side door.
  9. Hell, I'm 15 min from you just over the boarder in Munster, IN. If you need some help with checking over the bike PM me and we'll try to get together. I have a '99 RSV and am a mechanic on the side. Check the rear shock, notorious for leaking/internal failures. If the bike rides like your on a pogo stick you may need a new one. I did an "Big Brake Upgrade" with R1 sport bike calipers. HUGE improvement, 2 fingers to slow a big bike down vs the stock needing to grab a handful. If you want to see (and ride) let me know. Bleed the brakes till the fluid runs clean, don't know how old the brake fluid is. I flushed and replaced the front fork oil, I think the bike still had the original NASTY fork oil. I'm a bigger guy and went up to 15w oil for better dampening.
  10. Why I buy 6 at a time and keep them in the desk drawer. I think they were $3 a piece at partzilla.com.
  11. I have a similar set of pipes on my '99 RSV, I believe these would be the "98db" model and I have the "103db" model that were discontinued. Mine sound good at idle, almost like a pair of v-star 650's sitting next to each other at idle. Nice burble but not a lot of low "bass" tone. Mid-RPM has the typical Small Block V-8 tone. They are not overly obnoxious at highway speeds. Again, not a lot of low-end "bass" in the tone. Overall I was happy with the $40 I spend for the pipes & $40 for the clamps, I made my own brackets.
  12. Worked for a local Saab dealer right out of high school in the mid-90's. Still a few of those on the road around Chicago with 250k mile or more. Really nice driving car for the jelly-bean that they were, and that goes for quite a few Saab vehicles. Speaking of...buddy and I went in on a 1972 Sonett III. Cool little car that intrigued people when we took it to car shows. Also had a 1981 Callaway (as in the Corvette tuner) VW Scirocco. 1.7L SOHC inline-4 with a 20psi turbo. Thing was a dog off the line but once you hit 2k rpm it was a rocket beer-can. Three different colors of primer, great street rat till it blew an oil line and caught fire. Then a 1998 VW Scirocco with some go-fast goodies on it...till it went under in a flood.
  13. I have both Long Way Round & Long Way Down books and DVD sets. There has been discussion of a third installment Doing a trip similar to this.
  14. If you can find both his '84 and clean & sober '89 performance from Austin City Limits its a real eye opener. The guy had so much talent and finally had focus after he kicked the habit.
  15. http://www.ebay.com/itm/351062489316?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Someone posted these a few days ago. I have not used them personally but know a few guys who have similar on their HD bikes. You loose range on radio stations & CB but definitely a sleeker look.

  17. I've been looking to get a headset since I picked this bike up and sold the bluetooth system with the last bike. I came across a Chatterbox CBDNRFHSB Wired headset on eBay on the rather inexpensive side. There is only 1 Amazon review and its positive. Does anyone here have any experience with these?
  18. 4xy-2416b-00-00 left side 4xy-2417b-00-00 right side My usual supply house says $104.99 MSRP and $67.80 Cost...Ouch!
  19. I'm not the only one who went from a Concours to Venture! I miss the handleing but the wife likes to seat and storage. Agreed with Puc on this one. Bike wobbled and weaved when I bought it last year with 50k on the clock. 1st order of business was a new Hagon rear shock as the Yami part was on its way out (as typical with these bikes). From there I pulled the whole back end and greased/torqued the swing arm bearings. I'm a big guy, I ride aggressive, and like a firm ride so I put 15w in the front forks. Pretty simple job. Pull the tire/axle and use a LONG 6mm allen to remove the bolt from the bottom of the fork. Drain oil, replace bolt and refill by pull the schrader valve at the top of the forks.
  20. my '99 came with that fender handle. I looked at my HD ridding buddy and said "I hope its not like your bike and I need that tow-point"
  21. How new are the tires? My last bike (Kawasaki Concours) developed a wobble 3,000 miles into the tire life. Had them rebalanced and it went away.
  22. Bought my bone stock but extremely clean '99 RSV with 50k miles last July for $3,300 in the greater Chicago area. I have seen the same RSV & RSTD listed on Craigslist for over a year asking $6-8,000. Just a little knowledge from what I've seen and been researching. I know I STOLE my bike for that price.
  23. I'm looking for something different for bars since my right wrist cramps due to the awkward kink reaching the stock bars. You're one of the few who have something other than the flanders bar. Do you know what make/model bars you have? Either your current WIDE or previous TALL bars.
  24. The forks are OK at 0psi, the pressure affects spring pre-load. IF you do have a leak you stand the chance to pump oil from your forks. 1 other thing I remembered since my 1st post. When I bought my RSV last year I did a fork oil change by removing an allen head bolt at the bottom of the fork leg, drained the fork and refilled through the schrader valve. I think it took a long-shank 6mm allen to tighten up that bottom bolt, and you would have to remove the front axle to access.
  25. Check the simple things first...Are the schrader valves at the top of the forks tight? Even replace the valve core with some inexpensive ones from the autoparts store.
