Not trying to shoot down Vic & Indian (and any other maker) as "nothing is available" for them. The TF HD bikes I know are all aftermarket mix'n'match of an Evolution engine design with a race specific trans. I don't believe that any other brand used the divorced transmission style like HD so it makes it a lot more expensive to design the go-fast goodies required. Less the EVO engine has been around for 30 years.

That is what has become of most racing series out there...Nascar, where did the STOCK go? All using the same engine block, chassis, suspension, tires, etc etc. The import TF/Alcohol guys (both bikes and cars) have to work for their speeds, its not like you can walk down to the local parts store and select from 6 different heads & intake manifolds for your Honda! With the R&D push that Polaris put into the Indian line to not just make it Victory in new sheet metal I figured they'd at least try and build a legit race engine out of either the 106 or the 111. It would most likely be all in-house parts as neither bike has the aftermarket like HD.
-
Read that, too. So in simple terms is a top fuel HD rider, taking his top fuel motor out of his "Harley" drag bike and putting it in a chassis that Victory is making him. I've grown up with a TF bike in the family, there is nothing HD about a HD Drag bike other than the engine architecture. Its all race specific stuff in a custom built chassis...so where is the news in this?

The Garmin 765t (that is long since discontinued, but has a strong following) has that very few other GPS offer...FM Transmitter! You can set the GPS to send an FM signal, usually set very low on the dial, and tune your radio to receive the signal. This way I can have my MP3 player going and jump back into it when I can't find something I like on the radio.
-
I've used a 765t since 2010 across 3 different bikes now. I recently "upgraded" to the 1490t, I've lost the MP3 player & FM transmitter from the 765t but a much larger/brighter screen and lifetime maps. I debated updated the 765t but it would have been $80 for the lifetime map update vs $60 for the clearance 1490t.

I'm only 34 so mine are more recent... 1. Kindergarten classroom watching the Challenger launch in '86 2. Sitting with my Dutch immigrant grandparents at their kitchen table watching the Berlin Wall come down in '89. My Opa (grandfather) owned a market in Enschede, Netherlands where he hid out people escaping Nazi Germany during the war. 3. At work as a delivery driver about to head into downtown Chicago when the 1st plane hit. All deliveries were halted for the day, I immediately called up my sister who worked downtown.

Passing Lamp Mount
BratmanXj replied to BratmanXj's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
So the RSTD Mount is more narrow than the Venture mount? I don't have the fork deflectors (didn't come with the used bike) so I'm not against "loosing" them; just trying to figure out the logistics of the mount. If they are similar other than the bends & angles I'm all for it, if it's shorter or looks odd on a Venture I'll spend the extra $40 for the Venture mount. -
I have been looking to add passing lamps to my '99 RSV but like everyone I'm on a budget. I've been keeping an eye out for the Venture mount but everyone is near OEM prices but I did find a phenomenal price on a '05-08 Tour Deluxe mount. I thought I read somewhere that the TD mount will work on a Venture but you loose the small air deflectors. Can someone verify this for me, as the bike did not have the air deflectors when I purchased. Thanks

Not sure where the article went but I agree with Mike that the Purolator automotive filters may fit but are designed for a higher volume/pressure oil system than our motorcycles. I have switched back and forth between K&N (for the people who need name brands) and Emgo oil filters with good results. I've cracked an Emgo apart and it is of similar construction as the Purolator but "softer" spring on the bypass valve.

V&H Monster Ovals Chrome Quality??
BratmanXj replied to Bert2006's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I'm lucky and the greater Chicago area has some pretty good motorcycle swap meets. Even there V&H and Rienhart pipes are as you described, new, nearly new, or absolute trash. Sadly, if you can still read the name on them they ask big money. Now on the flip side no-one wanted HD Screaming Eagles since V&H and Rienhart started the push on bagger mufflers. I got my 103db SE mufflers in like new condition for $40 and they sound 90% as good as the others for 10% of the cost...that works for me! -
Thanks for the info. I did contact Skydock and wait to hear back, otherwise I might get in touch with you Ragtop

I knew I had 1 leaking valve cover, but now that I have it on the rack for other work I found a second leaking valve cover. Since I'm already going to be into the motor might as well double check the valve clearances. Can anyone help me out with loaning/renting me the tool and valve kit for a few weeks? Thanks

I have the same setup at XV1100; Tourmaster mesh jacket with the waterproof liner and pack Frogg Toggs Road Togs pants when traveling. I usually keep the Frogg Toggs jacket and pants tucked in the bike for normal day-to-day use.

I've already started talking with my insurance about being Canadian applicable. Helmet rules, firearm rules, speed limits are all clear for our group. I was reading that boarder crossings can get a big hairy and you should have a copy of the vehicle title, that seems excessive. Wouldn't a valid plates & registration, insurance, and passport suffice?

What Have I Started!

Buddy and I did Lake Michigan a few years back, now moving on to the next lake. Looking to do Lake Erie in late June and looking for tips & advice. Leaving from Chicago and fly the toll way to Toledo then work our way around, not sure which direction yet but probably doing 200-250 miles per day staying off the highway and following the lakefront as much as possible. 1. Already have a passport and know the usual traveling outside the country stuff, but have never driven outside the states. What do I need to know about riding in Canada? 2. Sights to see, roads to hit? 3. Anyone along the way free the weekend of June 26th?

Chicago Toys For Tots is the 1st Sunday of December every year. I've been going consistently for the last 10 years and we've swung from a high of 45 deg and sun (75,000+ bike turnout) to -3 deg (1,000 bike turn out). So far that's been my coldest. I've been wanting to pull the bikes out for one last ride but it's been damp and overcast here.

I assume this means the bike is still in your possession. When the insurance totaled my buddies RS Warrior the adjuster did not come back to look at the bike, they sent a wrecker to pick it up and that was it. He swapped as many stock parts back onto the bike as possible before pickup and we later installed those parts on another friends bike.
