Matter of fact it was pretty bad. We stayed at Ballys, and the rooms/hotel were in need of remodeling BADLY. So anyway, it got me to thinking, whats the best place to stay? Rooms were really nice.......Ballys was a bad experience all the way around. Carpets were stained and worn, our ceiling was waterstained etc. from leaky sprinkler system. We took my parents out (81 years old) along with my brother and his wife. After 3 days of gambling, my brother went to use his players card, and found out that it earned him 2 dollars. OOPS. He went and talked to somebody higher up and was told sorry nothing we can do. Same with the bad rooms. Sorry nothing we can do....you get the picture. GolfVenture Posted February 16, 2012 Share #6 Posted February 16, 2012 Stayed at the Marriott's Grand Chateau. It was really nice, and 1 block of the strip. It was just across the street from the Miracle Mile indoor mall. Once inside the mall you felt like you were outside walking for the sky moved as you walked. It was my 1st time at Vegas and I took Vegas for $800 playing Ultimate Texas Hold E'm. You played against the dealer like Black Jack. The dealer does not have any better odds except you get to see your cards and can fold giving up your anti. If you fold the dealer could have a worst hand than you. Then there is the bonus bet, this is where the dealer has the odds. I was winning about 3 out of every 4 hands. Started with $25 hands then about about 45 minutes wining 3 out of every 4 hands I uped the bet to $50 a hand. I still was winning 3 out of every 4 hands so I up the bet to $100 a hand. I lost the my 1st $100 hand and got cold feet and went back to $50 per hand. I continued to win and when I was $1000 ahead I pulled $800 chips aside and played until the $200 was gone. Which the cards did go cold. Had I kept going on the $100 bet I would have won about twice the amount. Since then I've played Ultimate Texas Hold E'm at Lake Tahoe and won $350. I also play up in Canada at the Kimberley Casino. I especially asked if they had an Ultimate Texas Hold Em table and they did but no dealer was assigned to it. I asked if I came in if they would get a dealer. No Problemo. After about an hour of playing I was $100 ahead. It wasn't as easy as playing in Vegas or Tahoe. But it wouldnt have mattered, they said all their rooms were comparible other than size. If ours was bad, not much chance of getting a better one. So a higher priced suite in the same need of remodel was not my idea of a good thing. I will say one thing for the room, the bed was comfortable. I slept really well. We went around all over- Paris, Rio, Wynn, Encore, Palazzo, Venetian, Golden Nugget, Binions. Treasure Island. So lets say I spread the wealth.........Had alot of fun, especially watching my folks at the shows. It made the whole trip worthwhile. Took them to The Ratpack, and La Reve. It was a small motel sandwiched between the old driving range and a larger hotel. But alas they tore it down and I think?? built the Belagio on top of it. The last time the wife and I were there we stayed at the Monte Carlo. Nice rooms..reasonably priced... and since it, and the Belagio, are owned by Winn they had a monorail connecting the two hotels. warriorhoneybee Posted February 16, 2012 Share #14 Posted February 16, 2012 last time we went we stayed at the excalibur were the beds were very comfortable and the motel was nice as well. we also stayed at circus circus were the beds were terribale and the motel was in need of a face lift. i guess it was more for the kids type of place. when we go back i want to stay at the luxor.but ya gotta go to the seafood buffet at rio's. Would agree the Golden Nugget is very nice and old downtown is good if you want to gamble. Stayed many times at the Hilton Convention center and you can ride the monorail to get up and down the backside of the strip. Not to bad but I think it just changed names. I haven't stayed at the Luxor for a few years, but is actually not bad at all for the price and have great valet service if you have a car. Sits at the end of the strip so more walking. Some of the rooms are showing there age. Was one of my favorites for years and best values, I just get tired of staying in the same place. Mandalay Bay is nice with good pools if you like that. The Hotel right beside it is very nice but to pricey for what you get for me. RIO is nice with big rooms, a little different and they have a no charge bus running to the strip that used to take you to Harrahs. MGM is OK but is very big and just something about it doesn't fit me. I've probably stayed at more then a dozen other places in Vegas and to me bottom line is as long as the room is clean it will work. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

If ya like gambling,, this spot offers chances of getting nibbled on by rattle snakes and scorpions... Prices for breakfast in North Vegas have sky rocketed,, this same breakfast was 99 cents back in the late 80's,, now its almost 4 bucks (comes with air conditioning so its still a good deal).... July 2013 we stayed at the Excalibur for 3 nights averaging $45/night for a basic, clean room, on the strip. Just the break we needed. Played the slots a bit and made out .... well, it's a casino, we didn't go there to pay the bills. Freemont St. holds quite the party at night. Bright lights, loud bands, and action if you want it. Would consider staying there next time. Felt parking at the Ex was a little sketchy for the 87', we decided best near the entrance S/E lot on the strip, covered the blond for 4 days and no worse for wear. Would I return to the Excalibur? We stayed at the Flamingo in one of the newly remodeled rooms. Was very nice. The daughter celebrating the birthday won $10,000.00 dollars on a penny monopoly machine at the Rio the night before she flew home. She always was the lucky one in the family.
