  1. I bought my Zumo toward the end of June this year. I've been thinking about updating to the 2008 maps. A few weeks ago I was going through the Garmin site and decided to review the info in the MyGarmin account. Looked at the map updates in there and it said I was eligible for a free upgrade! I said yes, verified my info, and got it Friday. Installed it today. I haven't had a problem with my unit, but from what I hear, those that have had problems were promptly taken care of with service over and above what most were expecting. I think this free map upgrade is another example. If you own a Zumo and have it registered, you might want to check and see if you have a free upgrade coming.
  2. I hooked up a Zumo and an existing XM radio through the auxiliary behind the cassette player (triple Y connector). Both units are getting power from the the back of the front accessory power connector. All works OK except that if the XM is on and the Gps is turned on the sound level of the XM drops significantly , if the Zumo is turned off the XM sound level goes back to normal. No such problem with the cassete player or radio everything interacts just fine. My first response was that maybe the Zumo draws too much power, shortchanging the XM unit but checking with a voltmeter at the XM power plug shows no power fluctuation when the Zumo is turned on or off. Any Ideas out there before I start pulling my hair out???? Correction and update: The power sharing has nothing to do with it. It's in the sound out connection - apparently, unlike the cassette player and XM, the Zumo doesn't want to share the aux. connection. When the Zumo is turned on the sound of the XM mutes down. However, if the Zumo is connected through the front then nothing is heard from the Zumo untill the XM is turned off, then the sound of the Zumo comes right in! I have NOOOO IDEA what's happening. Come on you sound experts out there! Speak up!!!
  3. I just reformatted my hard drive and lost the Zumo Forum link.. Can somebody copy/paste it here for me? Thanks Much! Jeff

  5. I Just received the Buddyrich cable last week and had some time today to install it. I like some of you need pictures and and maybe how too Instructions. # 1 Remove Fairing # 2 Looking from the front of the bike on the left you will see this cluster of color connectors (Lift the RED Connector up a bit and un-plug it. # 3 I put a little DIELECTRIC grease in the cables # 4 Now take the BuddyRich Cable and plug it into each of the bikes corresponding cables. # 5 This is what it looks like after the New Cable is plugged in. # 6 Take some Black Electrical Tape and wrap them up to help water proof them. # 7 Run the Small wire from the BuddyRich Cable through your fairing up the (MICROPHONE IN-PORT) on the Zumo Cradle # 8 Turn Zumo on and make it find your Cell Phone.. (TEST IT) Plug your helmet into your bike connector like always then have your Radio System on AUX switch to headset and make your call. I also Ran my Other 3.5 Connector in the AUX Port on the Zumo Cradle For my Loaded MP3 Music that I play from my Zumo. My Findings Were More then I Expected. The set-up worked perfect. I first called my Daughter from the bike with my helmet on from the garage. she could her me perfect and I could here her perfect as well. Then I Had my Wife come out and put her helmet on she could hear the call being made and My Daughter talking to me. My wife could not talk to our Daughter. But she could tell me what to say to her from helmet to helmet. Also , with the Zumo's MP3's Playing it will Mute it when the call is being made or coming in. I also was able to have the speakers on the bike on (not the H/S) and hear and talk to my Daughter. So for the price this set-up works PERFECT! Thanks Buddy for taking the time and making these cables for us. (Buddy make sure you add anything else I Forgot before Don puts this into the TECH Files.) I Hope this helps some of you folks. (not sure why these two photos are at the bottom of this page) Jeff
  6. Hey guys , I might have found an alternative antenna/receiver for the zumo (XM only) for around $50.00 plus free shipping. I just ordered it after talking to the tech on which "Off the record" he believes we have a good chance that it will work . As it looks so far , this unit is for indoor use , but if we place it under the fairing or inside weatherproof compartment . We will also have to get an adaptor.extension to connect to zumo's base , as it has a right angle connection . I found one of them and if I remember correctly , they run $18.00 . Even if you have to buy 2 of these , 1 for scoot and 1 for cage , it is still cheaper than the GXM 30 Garmins offers for over $200.00 . It should be here in a few days to where I will attempt to see if it works and pass the news along here and to the tech at where I purchased it . If it doesn't work , the tech said I could return with no problems and if it does work , along with a reveiw/report directly to him , he will consider a group discount for the forum members interested . Until then , Gene

  8. I finely got my new Zumo 550. I must say it is one of the best toys I have ever had. (very fun)! I have been trying to do searches here on cell-sets to run off the Zumo. Looks like the Kennedy is kind of a hard to install device and there are problem? Not sure if Buddy got his working right or not yet. I would like some links to place's so my wife and I both can receive calls through our J&M Headsets I also received an 8 GIG SDHC card for all my MP3's They are only $65.00 now. and it works perfect after the FAT32 Format! (made by Tansend) Did I say I loved my new Zumo? Thanks for any help! Jeff
  9. Ok - the Zumo pkg is here -- nicely thought out. But where does that huge magnetic XM antenna go? There does not appear to be mounting holes on the back of the mc cradle. Suggestions appreciated, DREBBIN
  10. Can you folks tell me the difference between the Zumo 450 and the Zumo 550? Besides the $500.00 difference? Also , I just want a great GPS with all the maps easy to use and TALKS! I have been using an old Street-Pilot for the past couple years now. but It is such a hassle to always have to Map stuff via computer. Thanks for any input! I was looking at this, http://www.overstock.com/Electronics/Gamin-Zumo-450-Motorcycle-GPS-Navigator/2261924/product.html Jeff

    ZUMO - MP3 solved

To quote one of my favorite characters, Inspector Clouseau, "The case is solv-ed." Thnx to the great help herein: Burn a CD from iTunes Then using the Advanced options in iTunes, convert to MP3 file Sure enough, I dragged them to the Zumo SD card and there they were -- and yes -- I plugged in the DC cord in the truck and they even PLAYED !!! Many thnx, best to all. PS _ I expect to pick up the RSV this THU !
  12. Ok, got the Zumo. Installed a 1 gig card. I decided to get Napster since it is MP3 compatible. Had to get Windows Media Player so Napster would move songs to a device. I bought songs on Napster. Tried to synch by following directions. Windows Media Player can "see" my Garmin Zumo and the SD card. NOTHING will transfer to the card -- not even the songs I "paid for". What am I missing? Many thnx, DREBBIN
  13. Ever since I bought my 06 RSV , I have been wanting to be able to integrate my cell phone within the IC , only for the fact that if my wife needs to get a hold of me she can . All other phone calls will be ignored , unless it is an emergency . Now I have a ZUMO , which has Bluetooth , all I have to do is connect the ZUMO to the IC . I call Kennedy to ask what all I needed to hook everything together . I ordered all but one item which was the Zumo Device harness . All this cord is a harness made up of three sets of cables , the OEM power harness (which is already supplied with Zumo ) , a stereo 3.5 mm audio cable , and a 2.5 mm mono mic cable on which I thought was an outrageous price of $95.00 . I have a freind whom is an electronics serviceman whom made up the stereo 3.5 mm and 2.5 mm mono mic for me for $10.00 . I hooked everything up as per instructions told me to do and went over and over several time to make sure prior to setting current through the system . At first , I received the scoots radio though the headsets .Then I turned on the Zumo and set to AUX to hear the MP3 player on which was a No Go . The audio out was wired through the cellset and splitter to 5 pin as instructed . They also sent me another audio in for Radar detector or anything with audio alert , so I ran a 3.5 mm from Zumo to 3.5 mm to that connection , still a No Go . So that left me to hook up direct to the Aux input on the cassette . Then I heard the MP3 , GPS nav voice and cell phone (audio only ) , but no one could hear me on the phone when I made a test call through the mic in . Being the Kennedy cellset didn't do all that I was told it would do , I stripped it all off and started all over again . When hooked up the way the instructions say , double/triple checked , I should have the Aux input on cassette and the extra Audio alert connections left open . I should be able to communicate with the cellphone and GPS nav voice when ever . All other devices will be heard when in AUX such as XM , MP3 , Tour Guides , FM Traffic and such . I'm not ranting on Kennedy yet , as I just received the item Friday , hooked up last light and played with today .They are closed on weekends and will be closed due to Christmas at beginning of this week . I would like to know if anyone else has done this before I have to pull the fairing off again . Gene
