  1. My wife was at a bike dealership and was looking at a used bike but what got eye was a bag that was in the trunk to put all of her stuff (brush, mirror etc) in reached from one side of the trunk to the other. I went on line and cant seem to find what she was talking about. If you guys and gals can help me out with this. thanks
  2. The CB antena wire goes into the black box under the trunk where do U connect the meter to adjust the SWR Gambler:15_8_211[1]:
  3. Hey all, have had my midnight venture over three weeks and i have a hard time getting rear trunk to shut and latch without putting serious weight into it and even then it takes a couple of times of pushing down to get it latched. took off black plastic latch cover inside trunk and everything seem tight and lined up. wondering if anyone else had this problem and ideas to correct it. oh when i get it latched it does lock as it should and opens fine. thanks Brian D.
  4. Hi again. I am getting rid of the main trunk that was on my '83 venture. We had a bad period, this past winter, and my bike (outside, but tarped) was blown over by the very strong winds. One of the side-trunks was damaged, in the blow over, and its twin was damaged in my efforts to remove it. My bike doesn't look right with just the larger/main trunk behind me, so I am letting it go. I am open to cash offers, or even willing to trade for a fairing windshield that is in better shape than my pitted one. The color of my trunk is pinkish/red - and I can try to post a picture up, if anyone shows interest in it. I live in Amherst, NY, and wouldn't mind traveling a 25-mile radius (before I start painting my bike).
  5. My insurance company has made me a settlement offer on my wrecked '03 RSV. I also have the option of buying the bike back. The only things that are salvageable are the engine, (still runs good) seats, trunk, (has two repairable cracks) saddle bags, (need to be painted) rear fender and all the parts on the rear 1/2 of the bike. The bag rails are usable but would need to be re-chromed which would cost more than buying new ones. They could by painted I suppose. My question is what is the market for these parts and how much money are they worth? I know the trunk and saddle bags would probably sell pretty fast but what about the engine? I would probably keep the extra wheels but the front one would have to be checked really well for damage.
  6. That you would like to get out of your way? I am looking for a Second Gen Trunk. I know in 99 when I got my 99 Venture there was a problem with the trunks cracking and many were able to get them replaced. I was wondering if anyone had an old one that they would be willing to part with. Let me know if you have anything you could part with. Thanks! John
  7. This is the instructions for those who want to remove the trunk from their RSV. At the end of the post is a method to make the trunk a quick release item. I hope this clears up any questions about this post. Start by taking the seats off and unplugging everything under the rear seat that plugs into the trunk. Figure 1 is the location of the bolts holding the rear seat on. Then remove the trunk from the chrome rack it sits on by removing the six bolts inside the trunk pictured in figure 2 and 3. If you don't use the CB much you can either take the whole black box located under the trunk off or unplug the antenna and stuff all the wires inside the box (I chose to keep the box on so I didn't misplace it.). I also removed the CB antenna and mount from the trunk rack. On the trunk right below the passenger backrest, there is a rectangular panel held on by four bolts shown in figure 4. I removed the panel and tucked the passenger communication cord in there so it is out of the way but can still be retrieved and plugged in for use. Leave the other two black plugs out. Those are for the speakers and when you put the trunk back on you might want to plug those back in. Remove the passenger grab handles. I took mine off completely because my wife said she didn't use them and I didn't want the hassle of putting them back on with the trunk. There is also a ground wire bolted to the trunk rack that you can remove and tuck under the back seat. The speakers will still work without it. Open both saddlebags. Unbolt the radio antenna and lay it across the open saddlebag. Now there are only four bolts holding the trunk rack on the bike. Remove those bolts and the rack should come off. Bolt the trunk back onto the rack. I went to Kragen and bought the antenna pictured in figure 5 and mounted it inside the front fairing. It works well and allowed me to remove the antenna on the trunk. Put the seats back on leaving the plugs for the speakers on the trunk out. After you get the seats installed, tuck the plugs up under the rear seat so they are easy to get to when you want to install the trunk. I am going to slot the holes on the trunk rack where it bolts to the bike. This will speed up installing and removing the trunk. I will let you know how it goes and I will get some pics up as soon as I can. If I was unclear with anything please let me know. Sorry for the length of this but I just wanted to make sure I didn't leave out any details.
  8. ...in McKinney with a mini beer keg on the trunk that had a Coors Light sticker on it.
  9. I am looking for the trunk rack for my first gen. Mine is good but I want to modify one for a rear setback of about 2 inches. I am watching one on e-bay but don't want to get in a bidding war if it is someone who has a broken one. If anyone has such a critter, let me know if you want to sell it. JB
  10. I am preparing to repaint my 83, and understand that the 86 and later had a larger trunk than the 83-85. A larger trunk would be nice, but not having seen one to compare, is there a significant difference? Does it mount on the same rack? Not that I have seen one for sale recently that was worth buying, but since I am getting ready to paint, now would be the time to make the switch. Any advice would be appreciated.
  11. The trunk rack on my 05 RSV has started to rust. I want to replace it, but I don't know what brand it is. Is there a way to tell if it's a yamaha brand, or some other. Also are the mounting points the same for any rack made for the Venture. Maybe some one can give me some mearsurements of the mounting points so I can get a replacement. Thanks
  12. HAS ANYONE SEEN OR INSTALLED ONE OF THESE ON A TOUR DELUXE? LOOKS LIKE A NICE TRUNK AND A GREAT PRICE. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trkparms=tab%3DWatching&viewitem=&item=120246281923&_trksid=p3907.m32
  13. Any chance anyone out there knows of a trunk (or even the top half of one) for a white 1988 Venture Royale someone would part with? A friend of mine is restoring one he recently rescued. If so, please contact him directly at maleneym@aol.com (or reply here and I'll pass the messages along). Thanks!
  14. Finally found a trunk for the ride!! That's the good news! Bad news is that I still need the key/lock mechanism, and the backrest for the Mrs to lean on! I call upon the hordes of Venture owners to scrounge through their piles of extra parts to help a fella out!! The 85 trunk is the large one, I believe it was the first year the big trunks were introduced. If any of you fine people can help me out, just PM me. I'm not looking for donations, I'll gladly pay for parts, and reimburse shipping. Thanks to all the great people on this site. You have helped me with my bike in many ways!!
  15. :sign09:Boy am I in serious trouble now. Have been searching high and low for a trunk, trunk mounting bracket, grab rails and passenger trunk backrest to add to my Royal star Tour Classic II 1998. Have finally found most of these parts but the bottom part of the trunk is badly broken. Found another bottom that is intact and now I need to sort this out. Need to exchange the bottom part, dismantle the trunk and put the parts in the trunk itself to save space and so forth. O.K. what is my problem? I live in Iceland and need someone to help me with this. Need someone that is willing to have all the items shipped to his place and is willing to sort things out, dismantle, pack and ship to Iceland. This is quite a lot of work but I am surely willing to pay for the assistance by any reasonable rate. Is there anybody out there who has the time, skills and the kindness to help one little eskimo pulling this through? I have not yet bought the items since I don´t want to do it until I see through the dismantle and shipping issue, but the parts are available. Like I said to my wife - Just got to have it !!!!!!!!

    amp mounting

hey,, I need some info on how to mount an amp in the trunk , right now the amp is resting against a bazooka tube,,not very secure , the amp is a Alpine MRPF 240 ,, would love to add a bigger amp but don't know if the bike's electrical system can handle it,,or if it can be mounted in the trunk,, any info would be really helpfull .
  17. Greetings. Neeed some help regarding dressing up my 1998 Royal Star Tour Classic II. Bought the bike in December and it is arriving here in Iceland next week. Was fortunate enough to find some hard bags from a 2005 Venture here on VR.org from mr. Rick Butler (thousand thanks Rick:))and would like to add that this was the easiest transaction ever. What I am wondering about is if any of you Royal Star riders/owners have swapped the leather bags for hard Venture bags and if there are any modifications needed. By looking at the OEM parts from Yamaha it seems like the supports under the bags are a little different but I would guess that it would be an easy modification. Any tips or advice greatly apreciated. Secondly I just have to have the Venture trunk for my bike. Would like my wife to have it comfy behind me. As far as I can see the only thing in general I need is to get the frame for the trunk as well as the trunk itself of cause. Do you guys know if there are any modifications needed and/or if this is a simple bolt on? Looking forward to hear from you guys and many thanks in advance.
  18. I just ordered this set of saddle bag liners and trunk bag along with a trunk rack from JC whitney. I hope it isnt junk. Does anyone else have this set? http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product/tf-VehicleBrowse/s-10101/Pr-p_Product.CATENTRY_ID:2012265/p-2012265/currentRecordCount-0/N-111+2007+200004571+600014545/c-10111 and here is the trunk rack http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Search?catalogId=10111&storeId=10101&sku=CBM010781 i did read that the trunk rack may rust a bit in the joints. we'll see.
  19. It seems like some of the discussions we see endlessly discussed, and if we don't have a particular interest in the topic, we might just lightly scan it but not really give it any serious attention. Then later on, we develop an interest in that topic and return to the previous threads to search out the details - and then we can't find just what we need even though we know that we saw it somewhere. That's what I'm up against. If the answer is there, would someone just point me to it please? I would like to install a nice looking LED Light Bar on my '07 Midnight Venture. However, I don't want to spend $300 on Yamaha's trunk spoiler light bar. I know of one person who found a nice looking bar which he mounted right between his helmet locks, but I can't remember the manufacturer. I like the Signal Dynamics,15'' LED Ultra Light Bar, but it looks like it would need to be attached to some sort of a fabricated bracket if I wished to put it between my helmet locks. I'm not sure that it would look good to just stick it on the trunk with the adhesive tape. If I mount a light bar back there, I want to make sure that it looks like it belongs there, and not look like something which I didn't take the time to think through properly. I would also like to see a few close-up pictures of different mounting alternatives and what they look like, but not just when they are lit-up. I already know what bright LED lights look like when they are lit up. I want to see how good the light bar looks as an accessory and if it looks like it's supposed to be there. So, I'm open to suggestions. But, please be aware that I'm no fabricator. As a matter of fact, I'm probably just barely smart enough to know that it's important to make this task look good, but not able to accomplish it without some help. Each new project becomes a learning experience. Thanks guys & Be Safe! Pete.
  20. Anyone have a trunk light and if so can you please comment as to what you have and maybe post a pic or 2?
  21. I would like to move the trunk on my 86 Venture Royale back to give my passenger a little more room. That will allow me to ride two up with my back rest installed. Where can I get the relocation brackets.
  22. I have called about 6 places that have the Hopnel Tuxedo Trunk Bib advertised on their web site to see if they had them in stock or if they could call their supplier and see if they could still get them. Negative I'm sorry to say. So if anyone finds an avenue for them please advise others here. I'm still looking and if I run across a source I will let you all know. Good hunting!
  23. I fabricated a trunk mounting bracket that requires no drilling or mods to the bike. The bracket uses u-bolts to mount to the backrest mounting points. I mounted a VIP Tour Pak clone trunk. I put a few pictures in my gallery to show how it was made in case some of you want to make you one. AL GUY
  24. Anyone have any problems with cracking of the plastic of the lid after instaklling the chrome metal rack? Reason I ask is the after-market trunk box I bought for my Sabre developed cracks where each hole was drilled into the lid and this Yamaha box appears to be same material - (whether it is or not not sure). I would rather have a box with no cracks and no rack than a box with cracks and a rack!
  25. I bought a Bestem trunk rack bag from Custom Backrest and it doesn't appear to attach to the rack well. It is supposedly specifically for the RSV trunck rack. It uses velcro straps - I haven't used it yet, but it seems at highway speeds the wind would pull it off. Has anyone had experience with this? http://cruiserbackrest.com/images/yamaha_venture_rack_bag.jpg I'm getting prepared for a little trip and am a bit concerned. Thanks, all.
