  1. Idle hands while waiting for the parade to start!
  2. Jeff and I found the ignition circuit bad jump it started, Put in line fuse in till can get fuse block. Put every thing back together now it won't start. 11.98V through circuit when push starter button Spark on all Plugs looks good on blue side fuel pump working I think it is flooding smell gas I put new plugs in any ideas, Thanks Dale Oh 1gen 83
  3. I put together my little Harbor Freight trailer a few days ago. Got everything working and hooked up and went for a 150 miles ride yesterday to check everything out and to get used to towing. I didn't load it with anything. I'll wait to do that another day. not a whole lot of difference once under way. A little more clutch was needed to start out and braking seemed normal although I kept longer distances between me and others. best part really was all the strange looks I got. Nobody here (that I've seen) tows a trailer with their motorcycle. Passed a group of riders. Thought some of them were gonna break their necks looking back!
  4. Entering Missouri and just after getting fuel on the way back to East Tennessee from Sturgis my '88 VR I experienced a noticeable loss of power and more noise coming from the engine, almost as it there were an exhaust leak at one of the front cylinders. I thought it was bad gas and would get better with the next tank. With the next fill up I added HEET gas treatment to dissipate any water that may have been in the fuel, but with no noticeable improvement. We were pulling a trailer and riding two up. The bike has a loss of power and takes much longer to get up to speed, but cruises fine at 75 - 80 mph. The bike sounds much louder from the drivers seat upon starting off from a stop and the problem feels as if the engine is "bogging down". The loss of power is noticed more upon moving from a dead stop or upon encountering a steep grade. However, it does start and idle fine. Where would be the best place to start to diagnose and remedy this problem? Up until this time the bike had ran great with excellent power, and it has only 59,500 miles on the clock... Thanks! Don
  5. Yeah, I have another problem that I don't know how to surmount. For the last few days I had been noticing how increasingly problematic my bike's starting has been. It had begun to take longer & longer to get it started, with each attempt. Today, I went out to start my bike - and it wouldn't. I mean, it acted as if it wanted to, but it wouldn't start. The Volt-meter would read at the "12" position, with just the key turned to "On". When the 'Start' button is pressed, that needle would dip to the line right at the 'yellow'. For the first few days of having this new battery, there was a much stronger voltage reading for it. But that is not the case now, though, and I wonder if there is something depleting the battery's power. Would the 'Stator' have any possible connection with this situation? If not, please share your thoughts on what "I" might be able to do to find out what's going on.
  6. Went to start my bike this morning, turned the key, hit the start button and nothing! Neutal light is on, and the headlight dimmed as I hit the start button. Does anybody have any ideas before I shell out $300 for a new starter motor? Thanks
  7. Ok so my fuse box on my 84 appears to be melting I'm starting to have loose connections in the fuse box causing it to blow fuses and have weak connections for the electrical system. I sometimes have to wiggle the ignition fuse to get the bike to start. any one run into this? if so what did you do to remedy this issue?
  8. On my 1999 RSV I replaced my 4 year old Yuasa, which died while on vacation, with a new Yuasa. Bike ran fine for a few days then it sat for about a week before I took it out today. Fired right up. We rode about 15 miles then went to eat. When we returned the bike was dead. Luckily I was parked downhill and was able to roll/bump start it. It fired up on the first bump. Rode it home and it was dead when I tried to start it again in the garage. Any suggestions on checking out the charging system? I sure dont want to give the dealer 2-3 hours labor just checking out a charging system. Headlights didnt dim when I was firing up the bike, but they did dim a bit when I couldnt start it. I have the factory manual, just looks a bit confusing. Any special tools/gauges that I need? Procedures? Etc? Thanks.....
  9. During my 5 day trip I noticed my rstd doesn't always start with the first push of the starter button. Very seldom does it start on the first try. My Vulcan starts always with the first try. Is this usual? Also my buddie was riding an rstd and his didn't start first time many times either. Any comments on this. 10. Ok... I'm sure someone has the answer... How do I hook up my cell phone to run thru the headset on my bike. I have a 1st Gen with Chatterbox headsets and it seems like it only takes minutes after I start riding that people need to get ahold of me... What are you guys doing?
  11. I'm looking for a better seat for my 1st gen venture. The stock one is fine for a few hours But after that my wife and i both start getting alittle uncomfortable. Does anyone know of a good replacement??
  12. I often get emails from new members asking how to start a new topic. Even the terminology can be confusing for folks who have never participated in a discussion forum before. It is typically called a new "Thread" but that means new "conversation", "topic", "discussion", etc. So...to start a new thread just choose the area that you want to post to. Examples are "Watering Hole", "General Tech Talk", etc. Click on that topic area and you will see the list of current "threads". At the upper left, just above the list of threads is a blue button that says "New Threads". Click that button and you are on your way. Don
  13. I'm not real familiar with 2 stroke engines. I'm better with 4 strokers. I have a 1980 Yamaha snowmobile that won't start. It literally ran fine one day, and wouldn't start the next. It almost acts like it's flooding itself. It will start and sputter for a few seconds and then die. Then I have to blow out the cylinders and spark plugs to get it to sputter like that again. I've been into the carb a couple times and can't find anything wrong. This model has an oil injector, meaning I don't have to mix gas for it. It mixes oil and gas itself. How might I check to see if the oil injector is working? Will a two stroke motor run without oil in the gas? Or course I wouldn't want to do that for very long, but the question is, would that be giving me the symptoms I have? Where, oh where has manic mechanic gone so fast? I'm sure he could tell me what's wrong with it.
  14. East/West Start in Searcy and run west to Fayetteville or the other way around. It will take you a while. This route is more than 200 miles. This highway crosses highways 67, 65, 7, 23, 71. All good points to get on board. The only town of any size between the start and end is Clinton. So you may need to gas up here.
