    Riding to Freebird's

I am starting my journey to Freebird's for the maintenance day tomorrow with some stops along the way. Just hoping everyone rides safe and gets there ion one piece. Looking forward to this.
  2. I know a couple years ago there were VR hats and patches available. Are they still out there for purchase somewhere? got a new vest and its kinda naked! Besides,my main ridin partner rides a(COUGH COUGH)Honda Valkrye and i need to teach him about true CLASS!
  3. Just curious what your plans are for this BIG Holiday weekend? I know I am being nosy, so what else is new around here. Any big rides planned? Mama:whistling:
  4. As I was headed back to my hotel today, I noticed a Midnight RSV sitting at the local Yamaha dealer just a few buildings down from my hotel. I stopped and me the owner. Very nice guy and he rides a 2003 Midnight. I gave him the information about our site and hope that he joins us soon. His wife rides also.
  5. I just posted a list of parts left over from repairing my 2005 RSTD. Please see classifieds if you are interested. I am glad to have her back, and she rides as good as she did when I went down. I posted here first before posting on E-Bay.

    Pinstriping

I've kinda been kicking around having some "old school" striping done. Since I've taken the 'bag rails off I kinda like the look, but it "needs" something. This months issue of Baggers has pics of a Volusia project bike that has kinda what I'm leaning towards, not anything big, just a few lines here and there. I've sorted thru several pics here, but haven't found what I've got in mind. So, does anybody have anything like that on their rides. Help/ideas/input is appreciated.
  7. I have to add a couple of things to this post since I got busted. My best friend and riding buddy, he rides a Roadstar:confused24:, read this post and got his feelings hurt. (I didn't know he had any!) It seems that I forgot to mention that he helped with the repairs in several major ways. He was there to laugh really hard at me when I forgot to let the air off the forks when I pulled the plug to drain the oil. (I didn't know that that little bit of oil could soak an entire set of clothes.) He was also around to help hide the one tool that I must have to put something back together. (There is no way I can finish a project without stopping for an hour to find that one special wrench.) Oh and I could never go without telling that he unplugged ALL of the electrical connections under the license plate to take the trunk off.(NONE of them had to be unplugged)(Well he didn't unplug em all, but this is my story and I will tell it like I want.) He did contribute in some minor ways. He made sure the luggage rack was set straight so we only had to drill one set of holes. And he was very helpfull in running the new brake lines. (I couldn't reach that rear one.) Also he provided some much needed comic relief and some very good encouragement when things started going bad. But I think the greatest contribution he made was to just be there when I needed him. I had to go in for some emergency surgery and he was able to help the wife take care of the pets and the house while I was in the hospital. So Johnny, this is my way of saying thanks man. After 4 months and several interuptions for some real strange reasons, I have finally managed to finish repairing my 04 Midnight that I wrecked in Nov. All that is left to do is get the license from the state and I am ready to roll again. I'm really looking forward to seeing how it rides now. I changed out the stock fork springs with some from Sonic Springs. I also changed the fork oil to 10 w. I hope that will stiffen the front end up enough to stop the diving I experience when I come down hard on the front brakes in a corner. I also took the risers out and changed the handle bars to a set from Flanders. They feel so much better and I dont have the rattle that the fairing was making. The only thing I am really concerned about is the removal of the rear lowering kit. It sure feels awful high with the stock shock links back in. I may make a set that is somewhere in between stock and Baron's size. Any ideas on this????? All that is left to do is replace the winshield with a Clearview shield. Hopefully that will be in when I return from work around the 15th of April. (Just why does work have to get in the way of riding??????) Thanks to everyone that was able to help through the Tech section. I was awful quick to go look up things that I was not sure of. Ride safe.
  8. I have been looking at the new members list for about a year now and have not seen anyone listed in the Marietta, Ohio or the Parkersburg, WV area, as a matter of fact I don't see many of the of the big Yamaha's around here. If there is a member out there that rides this area send me an e mail, sgroves1@roadrunner.com .............. Keep the Sunny Side up and the Rubber Side Down............
  9. There is a Test Ride Event on Sunday March 16th, starts at 10:00AM. Address is 6051 North Washington Blvd (301) in Sarasota, its just a bit South of University. They have pretty much all of their line there. Just sign a waiver, bring a helemt and show your motorcycle endorsement. You then pick the model you want to ride and go. They take you on a 7 mile loop, never got up to highway cruising speed though. I went on 4 rides in a row today, as long as a bike is available they will let you ride.

    2007 Rides recap

I have probably already posted this (they say that the mind is the second thing to go when you get old ...), but since there's no real riding taking place right now - at least up here in the cold, snowy north country, might as well reminisce. Here is a link to a video clip of some of last year's rides. http://media.putfile.com/2007-LAMP-Rides Sound on for background music ... Cheers,
  11. Anyone happen to have an old seat lying around that one of these could be salvaged off of, or just happen (by some odd luck) to have one sitting in a drawer somewhere? Back in the summer when I was having problems with fouling plugs and had my seat off, I realized I was missing one. Maybe that could be causing some un-noticed vibration, and one of the reasons my tailbone kills me sometimes after long rides. If not, I'm going to see if the local "stealer" can get me one, at whatever outrageous cost I'm sure it would be at. (#3 in the pictures)
  12. If this is how smart Kawasaki has become, what will Yamaha come up with to compete? Maybe a robot that rides a RSV? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-xCh7deefs]YouTube - rubik's robot[/ame]
  13. Well I got my new Midnight Venture in the garage. After doing some searching and some help from Condor I have got my self a nice 2007 Midnight Venture in the garage. As you all know it is an awesome bike and I am mighty proud and cn't wait to do more rides. Thanks for all your help and advise on getting one. Posted a few quick pics on the site. See you on the road.
  14. Don't know if anybody out there has used this web site but you can hook up on some pretty good rides. www.motorcycleroads.us/index.html
  15. I am 42 years old have been riding sport bikes and mid-size bikes all my adult life. I recently purchased a 2000 Royal Star Venture, which by the way, I LOVE! Although I've ridden them for a while, I never really got into the mechanical/technical end of things. I recently joined VR and it seems that many of you may have answers to a couple of questions I have. I bought this big bike so I could take my ten year old son, Danny for rides. He is severely mentally and physically handicapped, and can not speak. But, he LOVES to go for rides. He screams and giggles the whole time. However, he is HUGE for his age. He is 5'4" tall when we hold him up, and ways 170 lbs. He also has little lower trunk and leg control. This sometimes makes the bike wobble in the back as we go down the road. I was wondering what you all think of the Voyager trike for the Venture. Has anyone ever tried one? They just seem like over-sized training wheels to me, but if they work, I'll gladly put up with the embarassment. I know my wife would be alot happier. Any thoughts? Secondly (and finally), when I bought the bike, it had the BUB slip-on mufflers on it. The loud exhaust seems to bother my son, mostly during acceleration from a stop. I bought a set of stock, OEM's off of Ebay, but the bike has K&N filters and a Stage 1 kit in the carburators. Does anyone know if I have to go back to the stock setup to use the stock mufflers? The local Yamaha dealer says yes, but I don't usually trust dealers. I don't want to spend the extra money if I don't have to. Any and all replies would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Don M. from Harrisburg, PA
  16. Check out these rides. I don't think so. http://autoshow.autos.msn.com/autoshow/Tokyo2007/Article.aspx?cp-documentid=5626589&GT1=10450
  17. First of all, this was the first delivery on the subscription I won as a door prize at Vogal. I have seen a few editions before, but they are a little hard to find. As soon as I opened it up and looked at the reader's response section, there is a picture of a black 2nd gen Venture. An Alvin Mullen, from Jacksonville, FL was taking issue with a comment from an earlier issue about "There finally being an alternative to the Wing, LT and Electro Glide in the new Victory". He stated after two years of test rides on all these that he found the Yamaha Royale Star Venture to be the most comfortable and the best value. Does anyone know this guy? The editor's response was that in his original draft he had mentioned the Venture, but thru edits and re-writes, that the Venture comment had been left out. The editor also noted that they do have plans for doing some touring on a Venture in the future and will report their findings. The next great part was that North Georgia and south western North Carolina was featured, with a specific article on Helen, GA. For those of you that did not make Vogal this year, that is near by and part of the usual rides. They also showed a picture of Bridal Veil Falls near Highlands on 64 with a bike sitting behind the falls. Even though this magazine is not cheap, the quality of the printing, articles and detailed maps is very good. Just wanted to share this with you. RandyA
  18. I went on not one but 2 very enjoyable rides today, the first was on my 1st Gen, which I had just given a thorough cleaning, so I thought I would show it off........Its been so long since I have ridden it for any distance or time (1 month), that I had forgotten what a nice ride it was, rode about 40 miles of backroads just enjoying the music and the beautiful weather (75 Degrees). Didnt really want the ride to end but we were going out to eat with my daughter and her husband so I had to end it before I really wanted to. As it turns out my wife and daughter were going shopping after we ate, and I didnt want to tag along, so I took the Vstar 1300 to the resturaunt so I could head back home, so I took the long way home, about 40 miles also, and enjoyed that ride very much, two different animals, and two great rides, I am glad I decided to keep the 1st Gen, cause its nice to ride something different once in a while and having a back up bike is a good thing. Besides once it hits 25 years old, it an antique here.......and the price should go up on them. As soon as I get back from Memphis the 83 is going into my shop and getting a makeover and make her pretty again, not that shes ugly now, but she is showing her age...........
