  2. I had been looking for boots for a while. I finally found RedWing Zipper 979 Motorcycle boots. They have been the most comfortable boots I've ever worn.
  3. In the past with other bikes I've owned, I always came up needing a part that's near impossible to find. After months of searching for some parts, I came across a couple of motorcycle "Wreckers" in the Greater Vancouver area. Unfortunately, one closed it's doors, but the other is always busy with people looking for what they need and the owner helping out whenever possible. That second location is a business called "Bent Bike" located in Langley BC. I thought it would be a worthwhile thread for people to list any recyclers in their area to form a resource for those looking for parts for their aging bikes. For example, I walked in the door today and hanging up in the rafters is the left side saddle bag for an '84 Royale, no lid was visable but apparently they have a lot of other plastic from that bike. I'll put the contact info below and if the powers that be find that this isn't a good idea, feel free to delete this thread, (or make it a sticky if it's worth it...) 7. Van Buren County man strikes turkey buzzard with motorcycle, dies By Ashley Henderson (ahenderson@wsbt.com) Tools 0 Comments Email this article Print this article YouNews™ Digg this! Save to Delicious Post to Facebook Share on Twitter Close By WSBT News1 Story Created: Jul 19, 2010 at 5:39 PM EDT Story Updated: Jul 19, 2010 at 5:44 PM EDT BLOOMINGDALE — The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department says an 18-year-old Bloomingdale man is dead after his motorcycle struck a large bird Monday afternoon. Police say 18-year-old Dillon Reed was driving eastbound on County Road 380, east of 39 ½ Street in Bloomingdale. Police say a large turkey buzzard flew across Reed’s path and hit him in the chest. The impact caused him to lose control of his motorcycle. Reed went off the road and struck several trees. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Reed was not believed to be speeding and was wearing a helmet. Alcohol is not a factor in this crash.
  8. This is a C & P from yesterday's local paper. Injured JC policeman to be out 6 months By Becky Campbell Press Staff Writer bcampbell@johnsoncitypress.com A veteran Johnson City motorcycle officer injured in a crash when his bike bottomed out — apparently on faulty pavement — will be off the force about six months while he heals. Still, Bob Tallman, who has been an officer for 32 years and on the traffic squad since 1991, is “in good spirits,” said Johnson City Police Maj. Mark Sirois. Tallman broke both bones in his lower right leg when his foot was pinned between the bike’s muffler and saddlebag, according to Lt. Larry Williams, Tallman’s director supervisor. The crash happened about 1:20 p.m. July 3 as Tallman and the city’s other two motorcycle officers, Tim Hensley and David Smith, were turning from Pactolus Road onto Liberty Bell Boulevard. “There was a section of pavement right where he was turning where they had done some waterline work,” Williams said. “The pavement had settled considerably.” When the bike’s front tire came out of the dip, the rest of the motorcycle was much lower, Williams said. “The right side of the frame caught the pavement and it essentially jerked the bike right out from under him,” Williams said. “He got his right foot caught up under the muffler and it was pinned between the muffler and saddle bag.” Tallman was following Hensley and Smith and apparently crossed over the repaved area at a different section. “Two motorcycles were in front of him. He was just in the wrong path,” Williams said. Tallman underwent surgery to repair the breaks, but will likely be out of work up to six months while he heals. “He’s been riding motorcycles 35 years and this is the first scratch he’s had on one,” Williams said. “We miss him. We only have seven (on the traffic squad) so it hurts us to be short handed.” The Tennessee Highway Patrol investigated the crash while JCPD conducted a parallel investigation. We have had several poorly done road repairs and I have expressed how dangerous they are, especially to motorcyclists. I hate this happened, but I hope now there is more attention on this stuff. 9. FYI If you are riding through Iowa, WATCH OUT! Between flying matressess and now trucks crossing the center line running you off the road. Two trucks aginst little motorcycle is just BAD. BE CAREFULL OUT THERE!!!!!!!! GARNER - A Minnesota woman died this morning in a motorcycle truck accident two miles west of Garner on Highway 18 at just after 9:30 a.m.. According to the Iowa State Patrol, MacKenzie was westbound on Highway 18, when she turned her 1993 Honda motorcycle to the shoulder of the roadway to avoid contact with an eastbound vehicle that had crossed the centerline. Upon reentry to the driving surface, Mackenzie lost control and the motorcycle stated to skid and was struck by a semi. Upon impact, the motorcycle and rider were forced into the path of an International boom truck. The accident was investigated by the Iowa State Patrol with assistance from the Garner Police Department and the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department.
  10. Here are some photos from the Newport Motorcycle Rally. It was a scorcher so the crowds were not like they usually are. We however, were there every day and stayed to midnight. There was a lot of good music, and we met a lot of really friendly folks. Motorcyclists are great people. Yama Mama http://s11.photobucket.com/albums/a200/RonnieY/Newport%202010/

  13. This is for the techie type VentureRiders with a Blackberry, IPhone, Windows Mobile or a Droid type Java phone. It's price is $10 & I got it on sale with 40% off ($6). I just stumbled upon an inexpensive phone app for tracking your motorcycle rides, hiking trips etc. The app is made by Shape Services & is called GPSed. The app allows you to save your GPS recorded route to a website where it is incorporated into Google Maps & you can additionally add photos to the map that you may have taken. I know... it is hard to figure out what I am poorly trying to say. Yesterday I installed the app on my HTC TP2 & recorded my local Motorcycle Bi-Weekly Ice Cream Ride. Here is the public link for interested people to check out & understand better. IceCreamRide With this app (GPSed) & digital pictues, we could share & enjoy our motorcycle rides with each other. 15. PRAIRIESBURG, Iowa -- The Linn County Sheriff's office is investigating a fatal crash in which a motorcyclist was struck by a mattress that flew out of the back of a pickup truck. Police said John Saddler, 73, of Cedar Rapids, was riding his motorcycle near Prairiesburg on Saturday afternoon when he was struck by a mattress that blew out of the bed of a pickup driven by Roger Ockensfels. Saddler, who was wearing a helmet, was knocked off his motorcycle and onto the shoulder of the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
