  6. I don't think I could take this walk! This is absolutely spectacular. May make you queasy but definitely worthwhile..... El Caminito del Rey (The King's pathway) is a walkway, now fallen into disrepair, pinned along the steep walls of a narrow gorge in El Chorro, near Álora in Málaga, Spain. The name is often shortened to El Camino del Rey. History In 1901 it was obvious that the workers of the ChorroFalls and GaitanejoFalls needed a walkway to cross between the falls, to provide transport of materials, vigilance and maintenance of the channel. Construction of the walkway lasted four years. It was finished in 1905.In 1921 the king Alfonso XIII had to cross the walkway for the inauguration of the dam Conde del Guadalhorce, and it became known by its present name. The walkway has now gone many years without maintenance, and is in a highly deteriorated and dangerous state. It is one meter in width over a 700-meter fall, and over time it has lost its handrail. Some parts of the walkway have completely collapsed and have been replaced by a beam and a metallic wire on the wall. Many people have lost their lives on the walkway in recent years. After four people died in two accidents in 1999 and 2000, the local government closed the entrances. However, adventurous tourists still find their way into the walkway.Another mid-day stroll for the ecotourists among you........ http://www.brightcove.tv/title.jsp?title=1438490562 .
  7. OK folks...I'm thinking about doing a pig roast this year at my maintenance day. I just have to decide how to do it. I found a guy who will rent me just the trailer mounted roaster. I'm just worried about having time to roast a pig with all the other stuff I'm usually doing that day. The other option is that he will roast it the day before and I can just pick it up. It's a lot more expensive that way though. The other small detail is that I have never done one before. Anybody here with any pig roasting experience that will be there to lend a hand? I am thinking about a 125 pound pig (dressed weight) and understand that it will take maybe 10 hours. That means I would have to start it VERY early in the morning if we hope to eat by 3:00 or so.
  8. Ok everyone....Maintenance day is only about a month away. All I want to know is..who wants cheesecake, and what kind do ya'll want this year? Put your bids in now, so I know what to get from the store. If you don't request it...it wont be made! So, fire away!
  9. I've seen a lot of you mention that you will be coming to Maintenance day but many of you have not signed up on the calendar. Please do so. It really helps me to determine how much food I'm going to need. This link will take you right to the calendar page where you can register. Even if you are a "maybe".....let me know. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=73&day=2008-6-7&c=1

    stupid me

well how dumb can you be , you know that jack adapter that you attach to the under body of the bike well your suppose to take it of when done whit maintenance , it dont ride good .
  12. Thank you all for your help and hints on bike maintenance, I have driven bikes since I was 16 yrs old and always did my own maintenance, with my father's help, when I was only knee-high. WHEN I bought the VR88 about 16 months ago, it looked so big and intimidating to do any work on it, I almost considered giving to the local shop for a complete fluid change out, brakes, etc......... but once you get all that "plastic" off, it's just like any bike.................it is ugly though with no fairings. 80 some hours later it is back together....... the deep cleaning of all the parts that were inaccessable before took the longest.......now ready for some freaking SPRING weather........ and planning a summer run from Ont canada to the east coast of canada, and down through the eastern states and back into Canada..... may see you on the road then..........and if you need help when in my area..... I feel a lot more confident, in helping doing the repairs if needed.... cheers JOHN:cool10:

I am purchasing a new venture on Friday. Can anyone give me an idea of the maintenance schedule. Carl
  14. Hi everyone, I'm seriously considering trading in my DL1000 V-strom to purchase a Venture so my wife can go on trips with me. I saw one this last weekend at the Seattle International Motorcycle Show, was *very* interested but had some questions the sales people weren't too keen on asking. Can't really say I blame them, but I was wondering if your group would mind answering a few of the questions they didn't have an answer for.. 1. Has there been any significant changes to the Venture for the past 4 years? 2. What is the most common problem with this model, and what is the usual fix? 3. How much additional current is available for items such as heated clothing, GPS etc.? 4. If there was one thing you wish you could do to improve the Venture what would it be? Lastly, this would be an every-day rider (well ok 9-10 months out of the year). Any big maintenance issues to be concerned about outside routine maintenance? Thanks for your time. It's basically a toss-up between this bike and a Gold Wing.
  15. Folks...I'm thinking May 24th for my annual Maintenance Day. That is Memorial Day weekend though as Memorial day is the following Monday, the 26th. Does that cause a problem or make it better for everybody? I can move it to the following weekend, June 7th, if that works better for most people.
  16. OK folks...if you look at my avatar and other information on this post, you will see a note that says "VenturRider Meets Attended". I received a request from Jeff and Beer30 asking if I could add something like the "Awards" system to show how many eat and meets, rallies, maintenance days, etc. that a member has attended. This is a far cry from what they asked for but is the best I can do at this moment. I will try, in the future, to come up with something closer to what they really wanted. At any rate, this will work on the honor system. All you need to do is click on UserCP and then Edit Profile. At the very bottom of the page you will find a box to select how many VentureRider meets and eats, rallies, maintenance days you have showed up for. I just put 20 in there for now but can increase it if and when I need to. Heck, some of you may have already made more than 20. If so, just let me know. Sorry Jeff and Beer, but this will have to do for now and takes the pressure off me and/or the moderators for adding this info. I will try to make it fancier some time soon.
  17. Just wanted to post a photo of them This year My daughter and I had the pleasure of meeting Gary and Lesie at Don's Maintenance Day T
