  1. Man that was rough!! 4 & 1/2 days of putting up with Scooter Trash, riding and fixing motorcycles!! Rough I tell you!! Just got in and looked at my bed. Gotta unpack Scoot first.. You like them pics of it Squid????
  2. I was on my way in this morning to work and I spotted a red & black Venture on 24 north in the Randolph MA area around 6:30 in the AM. I live right around there and was wondering if anyone knew who this might be. He had a stuffed animal on the rack looked like a raccoon of sorts might have even been Scrat from Ice Age..
  3. Guest

    bug off

Bought some of the sea foam bug off today, tried it on my scoot. I wasn't overly impressed with the windshield, but I believe the pledge was causing some issues. However, on the rest of the bike it was awesome. BTW also tried out the deep creep, cleaned the combustion chamber and upper cylinders, and throttle body on my truck. really blowed out a lot of crap. my neighbors were hating me, when I drove it out to the store, looked like I had a blowed head gasket or something, couldn't see for a couple hundred feet back. I believe I will do it again in another 10000 miles or so.
  4. Where is a good place to get a good deal on a PC680 battery? I have looked on ebay and they are running around $130 with shipping. Thanks RandyA

    Risers

What kind of risers should I use on my '04 RSV.? I've looked at Barons, but I know that there should be others out there. Ken
  6. Do they exist for our bikes? I saw one on a Harley the other day and it looked sweet!
  7. I just picked up a 1987 Venture Royale with a 2 person sidecar and want to change the sparkplugs, but can't seem to find a socket to fit the hole! I looked at it with a flashlight and the distance between the sprakplug and the wall is very thin. Is there a special way to get these out?
  8. Today our son, Mark's car broke down. Pulley assembly busted, broken belt and all. He works about 45 minutes away, so Ron took him on our bike. Mark is 6'4", this is how it looked. I think similar to carrying a tall pine on the back of the bike. Mama
  9. I got my leather jacket hung up in my left sidecase the other day, the jacket got betwwen the latch and the catch. I like to never got it open, and when I did, the bag now doesn't apear to be shut all the way on the rear unless you push down with your hand on the back half. I also got a little water inside the other day when I got caught out in the rain. I have looked for some type of adjustment on this, as I am sure there is one, but nothing jumps out at me. Any ideas on this?
  10. Last week I got a new set of E 3s got in a hurry to get them on I forgot to tighten the gamnut. jumped on the bike and speed away good thing I had to stop and P looked at axle bolt only two-or three theads holding it on .( the new bells must work ) any way I will be more CAREFULL from now on
  11. Today as I was driving through Ridgway, PA, I saw an '84 for sale in front of a house close to down town. I stopped and snapped some pictures of it. I called the number and the guy is asking $3100.00. Sounded high to me as this is a standard, not a Royale and is in average condition for the year I think. Anyway, here is the info if anybody is interested. The telephone number is 814-594-2510. It has just over 50,000 miles on it. Aftermarket stereo. Plastic looked good. Engine looked clean. Seat ripped on front edge. Will need tires. Nobody was there so I didn't hear it run.
  12. On my 85 VR I can't turn this valve without using a pair of pliers. My brothers 88 has the same problem. Even the one we looked at at a local bike shop had this problem. Is this common? Can it be repaired? Dave
  13. SO i got up today and stoped at my local BP, the price jumoed to $3.59 overnight. this is rally getting rediculas. I hav to drive all over with my work. On a side note the gas last time I looked at my marina was $4.15 a gal for gas. Im looking to sell my boat rathen then just sit at the dock all summer. so how bad is it everywhere else:confused24:
  14. Just couldn't help myself today. Riding home after a twelve hour day, I came up on a pickup following a crotch rocket. Rider had a neat flamed shirt and fancy helmet and looked good, if you can look good going 55mph on a crotch rocket. He had a puzzled looked on his face as I cruised past him. Guess he didn't think the old guy on the old 1st gen had it in him. When I hit 95 he just kinda slid into the background. About two miles further I saw this speck coming up and low and behold, it was our little speed demon. He was probably running about 110 when he passed me. Evidently he didn't like high speed running cause I caught him in a couple of more miles. This time he laid down on the tank and really opened it up. Still had to wait on him to turn off the highway when we got to town. For just a split second I dreamed of a V-Max. I'm sorry, what was I thinking. I ride a 1st gen. I don't know what he would have done with one of you speedier guys, (you know who you are). Just made my day. Anybody else done that lately?:cool10:
  15. Its not often that a complete stranger will walk up and ask about a mans eyewear. I was in O'Rileys Auto Parts buying a filter wrench for the thimble-sized oil filter that these Ventures use. I had just gotten off the bike, and walked in wearing these PanOptx prescription sunglass/goggles that I bought last year in Sturgis. At the counter, this fella said, hey, what kinda shades are those? I told him they are PanOptx, and he said, oh...did you get those in Lubbock? (large town 45 miles away) I chuckled and said no, I got them in Sturgis, South Dakota, and I got a few snorts from the employees and a few customers....guess it seemed kinda exotic to these homies. Anyway, he said they looked really cool, and I told him PanOptx was on the internet. I have worn prescription glasses for a very long time, and those of us who do, sometimes have problems finding something suitable for wearing on a motorcycle during daylight hours. Now, most everyone on this website is riding a bike with a windshield, so this may or may not be relevant. But my prescription has always been difficult for the opticians to fit in a nice frame, something that looks good, but also works well. I was referred to the Eye Lenses booth at Thunderdome last year, by a good freind, and on a lark, I walked up and looked at what they had. Sure, all the cool looking riding glasses that I can never wear. But this fella walked up and asked if he could help...I said nah, nothing here will work with my prescription...I already know that. He looked at my glasses and said, I bet WE can fix you up. I told him, stubbornly, nope...been there, done that. He said, if we can do it, will you buy a pair? I said, yeah, but KNOWING I wont be dragging out the credit card today. Well he asked for my glasses, put them in the cradle of a fancy machine...took a few readings, punched a few buttons, and said..matter of factly, yep...we can make a pair for ya...but it needs to be one of about 4 frames that will work...here ya go...hows this one look to ya? Well, he was showing me a nice pair of black PanOptx sunglasses, that had a nice little plastic/foam insert to make them work as goggles for bikes. I said no way...I can NEVER wear something this nice...my lenses will never fit...he said..oh yeah. he can do it. Right. 40 years of knowledge about my lenses doubted...but ok...he showed my the lens blanks, and asked me a few questions about tinting and such, then asked if I wanted to try the frames on. Sure. Damn...they looked good. Well he quoted me a very reasonable price, and said to be back in two hours. Time went pretty slowly that afternoon...but when I made it back to the booth, there they were...MY NEW SHADES! No big deal if you dont wear prescriptions lenses like mine, but wow...this was cool! I still didnt beleive it. But I put them on, and HOLY ****!!! I can see!! All of my other prescription sunglasses have always been...well...ugly...Im either stuck with a big fat ugly plastic frame, or flimsy metal frames that are OK for driving the car, but terrible on the bike. This guy was like the Guru of Sunglasses! He DID it!! He made me pair that looked good AND worked good! And I have been wearing them on my bikes ever since. I just take them for granted now, but when I got that compliment, it reminded me of how this came about. If anyone finds themselves wanting a nice pair of sunglasses that work with difficult lense prescriptions, try these guys: http://www.eyelenses4u.com The brand and frame I got were the PanOptx Sirocco frames. PanOptx, I found out, has changed the name...but I'm sure the quality is just as good. http://www.panoptx.com/ If you stayed with me and read this far, you probably have the same problem I've had. Dont give up...good stuff IS out there for us '4 eyes'!
  16. Through the winter didn't have the problem - but now that it's warming up, the problem is back. When I go over bumps the right channel quits working. Then sometimes it will come back on over other bumps. I've taken the radio out and looked at the connetions - they look clean. I was thinking about putting dielectric grease in the connections to see if it would help.
  17. Hello all, New to the group, so let me introduce myself. From Massachusetts, been riding for 20 + years and except for one minor detour, been riding Yamahas the whole time. At present I own a 2000 Roadstar (which has been great) but I'm looking to get back into the full dresser thing again. All the guys I ride with have HD Electra Glides, so I'm their token Japanese bike guy. Personally I've never really bought into the whole HD bike thing, as far as I'm concerned, if you're on two wheels, you're ok with me. But anyways, back to the subject at hand. I'm looking at a couple of different options, first being the RSV. I'm very happy that they've come back out with the Black Cherry again this year, love that color. The one thing I do like about my current bike is the sound, not that it's a crucial factor in my decision, I do like the rumble I get (V&H straightshots will do that for you). I'm not really concerned on the comfort factor, I think once you make the move to this type of motorcycle (regardless of make), that's built into it. Obviously there might be some little differences but for the most part all these bikes are made for riding long distances. I've also looked at the HD, like the fact that they have a bigger engine and gas tank now and a 6 speed tranny. On my friends bikes (01 & 02) it seems like I was sitting with my face in the windshield, the new '08 isn't like that, they've changed the seating a bit. The other bike I've been looking at is the Victory Vision. I'm very impressed with this bike. It is a little different looking (to say the least), but it has a much loweer center of gravity that anything else I've looked at and it really handles fantastic at slow speeds. Just wondering if any of you folks have seen these bikes and what you think. I've spoken with Victory owners and they all love their bikes. As always price is a consideration and I think you get the most bang for your buck with the Yamaha. But I also don't mind spending a few extra dollars if if I'm getting something of value in return. So if anyone has any opinions, please feel free to express them, I am looking for feedback. Thanks for your time and sorry for rambling on. Stay safe!
  18. Yamaha calls for changing spark plugs every 8,000 miles. I changed mine today at 12,441 and the old ones really looked good. Why 8,000? I will not consider changing for another 12,000 minimum. I welcome comments and advice. Ken

  20. I just put an add in the classifieds, but for you guys who don't go there, I'm building a xs650 bobber and need some mirrors, well I looked over at my 05-RSTD, and the mirrors looked like a perfect fit, so I took one off and put on the xs, and it is just what I need. So any of you guys who switched to billet mirrors and have your old stock ones collecting dust, I can use them. Thanks, Steve
  21. Hello All, I'm just a little curious if any of you have seen this too? This morning I decided to finally get around to swapping out my OEM air filter a K&N. But to my surprise, when I opened up the air box there was a fair amount of moisture in the box and some gray foam around what i assume to be the crankcase breather tube. Now I just changed the oil and filter last month, and the oil looked good then. so the first thing i did now, was to peer through the oil level window--again the oil looked right...it looked like fairly new oil (it was not gray or white) and it had NO layering. Next i checked the coolant reservoir...it was right in the middle. So...i went for a ride anyway. Sixty miles later...the oil this looks right, neither gray nor foamy white. Now of late, I've been taking cold rides, air temp of around 40 or so degrees. I guess my question is: is this moisture a sign of these cold rides or do I had a problem growing here? I've had several water cooled bikes and have never seen this before. And last Spring when I last cleaned the original air filter, there was no sign of moisture/water then. Any Thoughts? As always, thanks in advance for your advice.
  22. I was cleaning up a bit under/around the 2000 MM Limited and found this spring in that pile of dust. I'm pretty sure it's off my RSV but for the life of me I don't know where... Anyone had an idea??? I looked at the two springs on the carbs -- they are there..... :confused07: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/01REDWING/extraspring.jpg?t=1200863181 This picture is pretty close to the actual size of the spring. Coil is about an inch long and the over all length just over two inches... Thanks for helping!!!!
  23. today i looked at a different bike.. 96 kawasaki vulcan 1500. they want $4,998 for it .. i told them i would give them $5000 out the door.. but they are holding hard .. i told them that the offer holds til 2/1/ 08.. here are some pics.. it has 10,000 miles...
  24. Ok which one of you up North pointed the snow our direction? Frogman picked me up from work around midnight and when I looked outside at Noon this is what it looked like.(See photo's Below) We got 5 inches in 12 hours and still snowing. Calling for 1-3 more tonight and in the teens.YUCK! So much for spring in West Virginia.
