  1. Hi fellow riders. I just installed the Stebel horn in place of the stock horn on the lower right side of my 07 RSV. I used Carbon One's bracket and it works fine. The chrome plastic cover does touch the clutch housing and the exhaust shield. I have not taken it out for a ride yet, was wondering if anyone has had any melting on the chrome plastic cover with this installation. Thanks in advance for your replies.
  2. It seems that some of the Saturns are plagued with horn button failure. It sticks closed, thus the horn blows continuiously. Well I am lucky enough to have bought a 2003 Vue with this malady. The problem is that the horn "button" is part of the $700.00 air bag. As you can guess I ain't gonna replace the airbag. I have found a schematic that shows a black and a black/white wire on the dash side of the steering column, which I wish to intercept. That way I can put a $2.50 "Rat-Shack" push button on the dash. Well I have cut in to the red wire in the airbag, which when grounded makes the horn blow. My problem is that I have checked EVERY wire under the steering column cover between the clock spring and the dash. NONE is common to the red wire in the air bag. as a temporary fix I have wired the switch to the red wire in the air bag and left it hanging out from under the air bag cover. Pray tell, do any of you know where the #28 wire is to be found going down the steering column?
  3. I just bought my 89 Venture Royale and when I press the Horn button I can hear the Relay clicking. I have looked all over the inside of the fairing and around the bike for the horn(s) and can not locate them? Not sure if they are missing or if I am not looking in the correct place. Can anyone tell me where they are located from the factory? I've looked at the wiring diagrams but still no luck. Don't like not having a horn............ Pictures would be awesome if available. THANKS!!
  4. Saw this great sign in car today, but could apply to the factory horn on my 2000 RSV - 'Horn not working, please look for finger' ! and yes, I'm fixing it this summer.
  5. Has anyone gone with the black Stebel Nautilus and mounted it as the second horn under the front fairing, and would it accomplish the same thing? My OEM is already chrome so buying one of the Stebel chromes, and mounting it on the right side would only get me a louder horn...not add to the bling... The blacks Stebels have a better price, and wonder if anyone has gone that direction and the result...??
  6. The right side horn has quit working on my RSV. The horn in the left cowling is still working but it is useless. I've heard babies cry louder than it sounds. I didn't particularly want to go with the air horn mod, so I hunted around and found a nice looking replacement auto horn. Plugged in the new horn and it doesn't work at all, not only that, it also kills the other horn as well. Neither horn works with the new horn plugged in. Removed the new horn and the left horn works again. Measured the voltage available at the horn connection and got full battery voltage. Don't have the meter to check current draw. Per the wiring diagram, there are no hidden connectors in line to drop voltage under load. Checked the new horn by jumping directly to the battery and it works fine. Just doesn't work when pluged into the harness. My question: is there something special about the OEM horn on the RSV? Does it take less current than an automobile horn? Other ideas?
  7. I know there's a number of posts on this but I did mine slightly differently so thought a fresh thread was in order. Firstly tho, thanks to all the others who have posted info about this topic. From it, I was able to complete the wiring very easily and your posts gave me ideas about mounting my horn in a different location, plus retain the stock horn. As you'll see from the pics, I mounted my horn just aft of the passenger footrest. I made a small bracket to fit on the rear footrest mounting point. I put a bend into it to hook underneath the footrest bracket soas to counter the weight of the horn as there's only one bolt holding the bracket. Pics are in order of completed project --> creating the bracket. OH man that sukkah is loud! Question.... there's a small plastic air intake attachment on the bottom of the horn. Looks like a person should connect a tube up to it and route it somewhere. Any suggestions on what the rest of you have done with this??

  9. Is the Stebel horn bracket and wiring harness still available for purchase somewhere on the site, I can't seem to find them in the classified section. Thank you..
  10. I wanted to get a louder horn for my RSV and didn't have the extra cash to swing for a Stebel. I had read a few comments on here that the Bad Boy's were quiet a bit louder than the stock horn, but not quiet as loud as the Stebel. I got my Bad Boy today and hooked it up. Got all excited and hit the button and no where near as loud as the stock horn. I'm very disappointed, I could have used that money on something else for the bike.
  11. A while back, some one posed a question concerning air horns. The OP asked the opinions of those who had installed two or more of the Stebel type air horns. This person wanted to know if the dual horn configuration was a more noticable improvement over using a single horn. Well, while not using the Stebel brand horns, I did in fact use the "Bad Boy" type that Harbor Freight sells. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/photos/94100-94199/94117.gif I installed two of them, one on each side, and had the wiring finished up by last Thursday night. I had my opportunity to give the dual set-up a run for the money today when I rode in our local Veteran's Day Parade. I rode with our local Gold Wing group (don't worry, I was riding my 1st gen VR) and there were about 15 bikes in our group. There were approximately 4 of us (that I could hear) that had air horns on our bikes, and mine were by far the loudest. I'm very happy with the dual set-up. In using just a single horn, I noticed that it clearly sounded as if the horn was only monted on one side of the bike, which it was. But when I added the second horn to the other side, it was a difference like night and day. True stereophonic sound! Response was instantanious. There was no hesitation, I had sound the very instant my thumb hit the button. So, are two horns better than one? You bet!
  12. I amm getting ready to install two stebel magnum horns on my RSV.Do I need to disconnect the stock horns?By the way where is the second horn on an 07,I cannot find the second one. What gauge wiring do I use from the relay. What is the color of the wire on the stock that goes to the horn switch and do I tie to this wire?
  13. Back in July I bought a chrome Stebel air horn from Hornblasters.com. I also bought the Carbon One wiring harness and mounting bracket. Last weekend I finally got around to install the horn but the horn I received was the Nova Chrome version. This horn has a chromed plastic cover that looks great but because of the cover it's a little larger. Needless to say it doesn't fit in the space where the factory horn goes without some modification. The first thing I had to do was add a spacer (1/4") between the mount on the back of the horn and the Carbon One mounting bracket. Then I had to trim some of the plastic cover from the upper right side of the compressor so the horn wouldn't touch the engine. I used a dremel tool . Lastly I had to change the clips on the wiring harness that go the the horn. This horn has the electrical connections coming out of the bottom of the compressor. I changed the wiring harness connectors from straight to 90 degree other wise the wires would have touched the pipes. Moral to the story, when you by parts online make sure you get what you thought you ordered. Also, if you are going to add a Stebel horn make sure you don't get the Nova version.
  14. Last year, I disconnected my OEM Horn and a friend installed a 2 Trumpet Air Horn. I thought when it was done by my friend, there were 2 OEM Electric Horns. One on the right side by Floor Board, and one in the left front cowling. I took off the Air Horn and replaced it with a louder 118 db electric horn from RIVCO. I found a connector that looked like a horn connector in the left cowling, but no bracket or OEM horn. So, on 2008 RSV, is there 1 or 2 OEM Horns?
  15. We just got back from a 12-day, 5,000 mile trip from Utah to Canada down the PCH and back to Utah. Everything about the trip was completely awesome - except for the rain we experienced in Canada. Oh my gosh! We were rained on for about 10 hours (500+ miles), and that just drowned my Stebel Nautilus horn. So, this evening while researching another Stebel replacement, I discovered an all black one called the NAUTILUS COMPACT TUNING BLACK. This looks like an improved finish over the poor-quality plastic chrome coating which my current Nautilus has. From a few reviews I have found, the Compact Tuning version might also be a little louder. My question is ..., does anyone have experience with (specifically) the Nautilus Compact Tuning model? Also, I am looking for the best price to find one of these. The vendor where I purchased my Stebel Nautilus, doesn't appear to carry their horns anymore. I am aware that there are many similar and less expensive alternatives to the Stebel brand horns and that they are easy to find at local auto parts stores, etc. However, I am still looking for info on this specific horn is anyone can offer me any personal eperience reviews or recommendations on where to find a Stebel Nautilus Compact Tuning Black model. Thanks guys & Be Safe! Pete.
  16. Hi All, I'm in the middle of a 6000 mile trip on my 86 Venture. This morning I found that my entire dash readout stopped working. No fuel, temp, tach, or volts. No Turn signals or stop light either. Headlights and running lights work fine. Starts and runs great. Put 400 miles in the desert today without a problem. Now heres where it get quacky. It WILL come on once in a while. It might stay on for 10 seconds or an hour. If I do anything that require power (Stop light, horn etc.) it will shut down again. At one point I hit the horn and the screen came back on!! It should be noted that when it come on it goes thru the diagnostic test just like turning the key on. It seems to be acting like a bad ground. Any Ideas?
  17. After some prodding by fellow members I'm offering my Stebel air horn bracket for those who wish to have one. It's made from 1/8" stainless steel and nicely polished. Pics below of it on the air horn and in the mounted position. It replaces the stock horn on the right side of the bike, and tucks in very good as well. The horn doesn't stick out beyond the exhaust pipes because of that. Price of the bracket is $15 which will include shipping priority mail. Payments can be made by PayPal at lskeels@wowway or use the same address to get my home address if sending a money order. Larry
  18. so heres the deal.i finaly bought a stebel horn to replace the factory horn on right side so people can hear it. the factory horn(lower right)didnt work but the front one dose.must be a bad connection either in the switch or in line somewhere because the stebel horn dosent work either. i did hook the new horn up straight wire to make sure it works and it dose. cant hear a damn thing now but o well. dose anyone have any thoughts on this problem?
  19. Two years ago I put a set of stebal air horns on. I just got it back from the shop to replace the shock and the horn on the right I did not like the way they had it mounted, they had to remove it to get to the shock. So I was going to move it to where I wanted it and the bolt holding the horn came loose. So I had to unplug the wires to remount it and one of the wires drooped on the exhaust pipe and sparked and now neither air horn works. I replaced the relay nothing, the stock front horn works but not the rear horn. I did run separate fuses for each air horn, both look good. what do I need to check to get them to work? Have the horns attached to passenger floorboards. tew47
  20. Coming home from Savannah today I almost lost my running light. the frame mounted bracket to which squidly's light bracket, the horn and a fog light are mounted broke clean off. The metal is clean all through the break, so this was not a developing crack with ultimate break. Don't know if something hit the light to have caused this, but at least she landed on my boot and hung on by the wiring. Question one would be if any one knows of the top if this is a bolt on tab or welded on. And second, if it is bolted on does anyone have a spare (left side) so I can fix this easy like. Thanks!!
  21. :fingers crossed:Hi again everyone. I was nearly hit three times this week by cars changing lanes. I honked my horn but it is worthless. Could someone direct me to get a horn, maybe a STEBEL and how to install, any brackets etc.. Thank you.
  22. Pappa Bear

    horn

I just picked up a Bad Boy Horn. Is it nessesary to use the relay they include or can I just plug in my stock wires?
  23. I came across this on another forum.......Stebel Horn $29.95.....or is it a clone ? Keith http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250613839581
  24. Moved this thread from the Watering Hole... Profiessional Input Please: I have read most of the threads regarding wiring of a Stebel Horn. I ordered one today so it will be on for a trip I am taking the end of May to Dragon/Cherohala area. I have decided to go with the "in cowling" mounting option. After reading Freebirds Tech article and others here on the forum I would like "confirmation" that I will be wiring it up correctly. 1. Mount horn vertically in cowling to frame. (Using pipe insulation to cushion per a suggestion on a thread and tie wraps) 2. Splice into hot wire from acc. plug and run wire to relay. ( Per Freebirds Tech article) (Increase size of fuse in lower fuse panel) 3. Wire from relay to horn positive. (Tech article) 4. Ground wire from horn to frame. ?????? 5. Splice into pink wire horn button and run wire to relay. (Threads tech article) What am I missing...anything. NOTE: I restored a 110 year old house here in Lynchburg. I did all restoration work "EXCEPT" electrical....Just not my thing..... Since I am under the cowling and want to keep the OEM horns active, do I need to deal with the "brown" wire everyone refers to in the mounting option on the lower right side of the bike?.... Long Tall in Lynchburg, VA
  25. I purchased a Wolo Horn last summer and installed it with no problem. About two weeks ago I took a ride on a nice day here in Michigan and for the fun of it tooted the horn, but no sound. Got back to the shop and parked it. This past Saturday I started checking the wiring and all was good. Took the horn apart and found a electric motor and points. Cleaned it all up and put it back together and still no toot. Took it back apart and found a plastic impeller down inside that the motor turns. You could not turn the impeller by hand very easy. Cleaned it out in the wash tank, W-D 40 it and it still would not turn freely. Could not get it to work. It is sealed in that area so you can't get to it. I am going to try a Stabel Horn this time and see if it lasts longer. Anyone else had this trouble?
