  1. Those of you who have installed the Yamaha passing lamps may want to inspect the OEM glass fuse holder that is part of the wiring harness that comes with the lamps. I installed these lamps on my 06 RSTD this spring. I just completed a thousand kilometer vacation trip last week and had no problems, but last Sunday on a day trip I noticed my passing lamps were no longer working. The fused power lead was connected to the wiring harness inside the headlight housing so that is the first placed I checked. I discovered that the nylon OEM glass fuse holder had melted where the bottom of the glass fuse makes contact with the lower contact point. Fortunately the nylon fuse holder was tough enough to restrict the damage to the fuse holder housing itself and none of the other wires around it were damaged, but I had to use Channellock pliers to get it apart. I have since replaced the glass fuse holder with an automotive ATO fuse holder c/w weatherproof rubber cap. I also noted that the OEM glass fuse is rated at 10 amps whichs seems a bit high for the two lights that it powers. The red power lead looks a little thin for 10 amps. I have reduced the rating of the new ATO fuse to 5 amps and everything works just fine.
  2. Does anyone have a beverage/cup holder that doesn't hit the tank with steering at full turn? Where did you get it? Thanks!!!
  3. Question for anyone using a tank bag. I'd like to use a tank bag on my upcoming long trip with my 04 RSV. I'm curious if the magnets will be an issue with the plug and holder mount on the side of the tank. Seems this would keep a magnet from making good contact.
  4. Hey Guys I need opinions, my coffee cup holder from my 1st gen doesnt work right on my 2nd gen so i am looking for suggestions to what you guys use and like i really hate to spend 80 bucks on a coffee cup but i drive 65 miles to and from work everyday and i am dying without my java HELPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. What do you folks use to hold your GPS?
  6. As many of you know, the cover where I want to mount a map holder is plastic. I just spent more than a couple of hours looking at websites that have many different types and styles and none seemed "Venture Friendly" to me. So - anyone have a recommendation on brand/make/model of "tank luggage" you like for your first gen that has a map window on it? Thanks for your time!!! Larry
  7. I'm looking for the little rubber holder that sits on the gas tank that holds the cord for the headset. Anyone have one they'd be willing to part with?
  8. I won this used License Plate Holder with Lights (Item# 170318869042) and I am wondering if there is an LED lamp available bright enough for the application (68230-97b). What would be the color of the wire I should be looking for inside the license plate holder area to connect to the assembly? Is this a straight bolt on? Tips please.
  9. has anyone put a cup holder on the rear of a second Gen? if so can you tell me what kind and where you mounted it .. my riding partner is starting to think about the upcoming events for 2009 and told me i had to have one for her!!!! Thanks Ron aka Grasshopper aka honery
  10. Hi all, Does anyone have a fuse holder for the accessory fuse, my one's snapped, it the small white red wire that screws into the fuse box. I've looked for new holders, crimping type but can't find any.
  11. Who is making the best, most versatile drink holder out there? What kind of mount would work for the passenger?
  12. I know this is a dumb question but here goes. I own an 83 VR, about to change the plugs and can't find what to set the gap to any help would be appericated. Also my headlight fuse blew and when I went to change it the holder was brittle and broke, I rigged it for now but need a replacement, probally the whole panel. Anybody got one or know where to find one. Thanks everyone.
  13. on passenger cup holder mounts. I'm sure this has been gone over many times, but I can't seem to find any threads. The only place I can find to mount a cup holder is on the passenger hand rails. Gary's using the trick on the gas tank cover, but I need one myself. My brother had given us one that I put on from Cabella's but the first time I used it, away she went. I also had purchased a leather one that I liked, but it hung down to low and now I have a rub mark on the top of my side bag. I need one that sits up high enough that I can still get my side cover open. Any suggestions?
  14. About a year ago, I bought this nice flag & holder from a local Yamaha dealer. Unfortunately, I no longer have the packaging and I can't recall who the manufacturer is. I'll check with the dealer if no one here knows the answer. It's the exact same product as listed in the most recent JP Cycles catalog on page #54. It's listed as a "Tour Box or Saddlebag Flag Mount" (item #1500455). I'll attach a picture of it with this post. My problem is the flag pole is designed to fold down at the push of a release button and then lock in place when it's raised up. Well, the mechanism which locks it in place when it's raised has failed and now it won't lock in to the raised position and flops down by itself. So, I wondered if the manufacturer might be able to help me either fix it or replace it. It was pretty pricey so I don't particularly want to have to purchase another brand new one if this one can be fixed. Any suggestions? Thanks! Pete.
  15. What size is the threaded holes on the handlebars where a mirror would go on any other bike? I'm looking to put a stud type helmet holder there but don't know if there is one available in that size or if I will need to make one. I've seen these on other bikes but never one on a Venture.
  16. I like the nice connector holder stuck on the gas tank for the headset cord. I wonder if anyone knows where could get another such stick on holder (a smaller one, actually) that I can mount on the other side to plug in something else? -Rip
  17. Do any of you drink coffee while you are riding? Can you post a photo of your cup holder? I cant find a good solution to this situation....

    Hey Condor

OK, Jack! Here are the pics of how I mounted my GPS holder. It took me a while to borrow a camera. (No, I didn't take them 01/01/08! I just changed the batteries!) This is on the left handlebar and I just used two zip ties. http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e138/TMagEnterprises/Extra%20Junk/gps4.jpg I'm running out of room! The leather thing is my bottle/cup holder that I made from an old UPS belt. http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e138/TMagEnterprises/Extra%20Junk/gps1.jpg For power I plugged into a power outlet that I have hanging in the fairing by the radios and ran the cord up through the louvered side piece. http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e138/TMagEnterprises/Extra%20Junk/gps3.jpg The unit just snaps in. I mounted this just before my trip last summer so it has lasted over12k miles. It hasn't even rotated or slipped any. http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e138/TMagEnterprises/Extra%20Junk/gps2.jpg It is also easy to glance at in the twisties to see how much curve you're getting into! I don't like the built in position on the Gold Wing, you have to look too far off the road.
  20. Hi and Merry Christmas to all, Things have been hectic the last few weeks. I tore into Mocha and got lots of parts. Just now getting around to the work. The base is on Exodus until Jan 4th so I can take some time and work (or play!). Finished the fuse holder replacement tonight. Took too many cold meds and couldn't sleep so I went to the garage and worked. The original holder clips for the fuses were so brittle that they cracked when I pulled them out. Replaced it with a small 6 gang ATC holder. Then I decided to get rid of the OEM main fuse. Put in a Maxifuse holder. Tomorrow is battery cables. I have a large supply of 4ga. welding cable and all of the terminals already. They have to make a difference. The OEM cables are WIMPY. Quick question on the main fuse. It is about a 12ga. wire into the harness. Does that really carry the entire load of the electrical system? If so, before I put in a larger stator I think perhaps a new wire might be in order. Hey Todd - found why neutral was hard to hit! The bellcrank is loose on the shift shaft splines. Hopefully it isn't worn to the point I can't get it tight. I did a bit of soldering this weekend so I will drop your connector in the mail right after the holidays. I picked up 6 of the sockets. They were less than 2 bucks apiece. Safe and happy holidays to all. J.B.
  21. always looking for a way to put somthing else on the bike been looking for a good cup holder and i found this:thumbsup2: http://65.102.174.116/rammount/search.aspx?searchTerm=cup+holder
  22. I just found this on a V-Max WebSight: I have not checked my bike yet ( 89 ) to see if this minor fix applies to Ventures, as well as the V-Max. Its the Red wire from output of the Voltage Regulator going to the Main Fuse holder then to the Battery Positive Terminal. The Information claims this connecting point is just " Crimped" and should be Soldered. Why, because there is a 1 volt voltage drop across the crimp connection. At least thats what is Claimed. I can't confirm it yet. Check this web address, http://www.vmaxoutlaw.com/main.html On left of page click on v max tech + Info: Then Scroll down to and find, " Crimp" connection fix. It gives Schematic information, and some good photographs as to how to do the " fix " The Fuse holder looks same as on 1st Gens. I will check mine tomorrow, or as time presents itself, being that I am now Retired, Time is in fairly short Supply. And its January and its Cold in the Garage, and I just got home with a 6 pack !!
