  1. A few years age I remember coming across a website the sold alot of RSV chrome. I remember there was a MMRSV all chromed out. Just about everything that could be chomed was chromed, even rotor covers. Has anyone seen this, and what is the web site?
  2. Who makes chrome levers for the venture. Tired of getting tot work and my hands look dirty. Thanks Jim
  3. I was wondering if anyone knew what the chrome strips on the upper fairing were designed to do. Is it just looks? The only thing I could contribute them to would be airflow or rain but as small as they are I wouldn't think they do anything but looks. Also are they just put on with double sided tape? I have an aversion to chrome so unless theres a reason for them or they bolt on they are going to go. Thanks for any help.
  4. My front fender has a hole in the very front of it. I figure there was a chrome piece mounted there that used a mount in the very front. Anyone have this or know exactly which one it was? I'd like to get on and cover the hole. This is not the hole that the factory chrome sits in and is bolted on the sides. The hole is just above the factory chrome piece.
  5. Hey guys, I need some parts due to unspecified reasons. There are 3 parts I need, which are: 1. left front turn signal lens 2. left side case/crash guard 3. lower left accessory lighting chrome trim which is located under the left side saddle bag. This piece has 2 red lights in it and wraps around and connects to the lower rear center piece. I don't need the lights just the chrome piece. Thanks Don H.
  6. well folks, it has happened to me TWICE, in the past couple of weeks. afternoon sun at my back, in town driving, preparing to make a left turn. i look down the street a couple of blocks, i see a white,"dodge ram dually", coming in the inside lane. headlights are on, chrome bumper is shining like a new nickle. i look a second time, to be sure, and lo and behold! 300 feet in front of the truck, is an all white goldwing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lights on, chrome shining, both blending in with the front of the truck! i guess what i'm trying to say, is that sometimes you really DON'T see the motorcycle, even in bright ,clear daylight!!!!!!!!! you guys be extra careful out there! just jt
  7. I'm having difficulty finding chrome beauty rings or nice hub caps for my pull behind trailor. 8" wheels. I originally had chrome wheels but they got warped out of round in a previous tire change. I thought the tires were faulty until a recent change to new tires and discovered the warped rims. I have replaced them w\ white standard rims that I have painted black and still have chrome lug nuts. A chrome beauty ring would look killer. Or a good looking hub cap that can be adapted to fit over or around bearing buddies. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
  8. Started polishing the front wheel tonight. I think about 5 hours and 20 bucks will get it as close to chrome as it can be without the chrome cost. Lower part was done in about 30 minutes Used a course steelwool then a fine and finally the Diamond Brite Truck box polish from Lowes. You can see the results in the pics. I did not do the painted part and probably won't as you can hardly see it with the hub cap on.
  9. Yesterday I tried to repair the broken tabs on the chrome piece that fits below the windshield. I bought the speed nuts mentioned in an article. I couldn't get the chrome piece to fit after using the speed nuts so I had to take them off. I priced a new chrome piece at the Yamaha dealer and it is $115.00. I may have to get a new one as bad I hate to pay $115.00 for a peice of plastic. Anyone been successful using the speed nuts?
  10. I had put this on the site before it crashed. An inexpensive way to add some chrome to your bike. Takes a little practice at cutting but works good.
  11. When I bought my new old 84 Venture the previous owner gave me a chrome bumper that he thought was on the bike at one time. I haven't seen any pictures yet on this site that really look like what I have. Does anybody have any idea if there were ever chrome bumpers that go around the saddlebags for an 84 VR? Or has anybody ever seen something like that? I'm not sure if it will fit or how exactly how to put it on the bike. Any input or pictures would be greatly appreciated.

    Cleaning your Chrome

Cleaning the bits of road tar, melted plastic, or rubber off from the bottom of your passengers soles, even the bluing caused from too rich a mixture (running the bike with choke on too long) can be a difficult task to clean off the chrome pipes of your bike. So I would like to offer up the method I have found to be successful in returning chrome to it's show room finish. Using a small artist's brush spread "Lepage Super Strippa" a semi-gel paint and vanish remover onto the chrome area to be cleaned. Leave on for approximately 10 minutes. Then using "Super Fine 0000" steel wool rub the area with back and forth strokes removing any unwanted material, wipe area clean with a soft cloth, repeat all of the above if necessary. After you have removed the unwanted material to your satisfaction, then dampen a clean soft cloth with acetone and wipe down all the chrome for a show room finish. Warning!!!!!!! Apply this method to COLD chrome only. Both the Varnish Remover and Acetone are highly flammable and will drastically harm paint and plastic. Caution!!!!! Use only Super Fine 0000 (4 zero's) steel wool anything less than 4 zero's will mark the chrome.

    Need help

Good day, I would like to know how easy is it to remove those chrome moldings on the front fairing on a RSMV 2005. The fairing need to be repainted and I would like to remove those chrome molding and reinstall it later. Thanks.
  14. Splitting the Faring If you ride the second generation Venture long enough, you are eventually going to need to get into the faring. This may be to install passing lamps, repair a loose wiring connection, various reasons. Here are some step by step instructions to make the job easier for you. If you do not have passing lamps already installed, you can obviously skip the first step. If you have passing lamps, you will have to remove them in order to remove the front of the faring. The chrome cover in the center of the passing lamps simply snaps off. http://www.venturerider.org/faring/faring1.jpg Once the chrome comver is removed, there are two bolts that secure your passing lamps. The factory supplies allen bolts for this but mine have been changed out to regular hex heads. If you have allen bolts, a "ball end" allen wrench works best as it allows you to go in at an angle without hitting the bottom of the faring. In the following picture, I have removed the bolts and let the bar rest on my front fender. No need to unwire anything. Note the towel...don't want to scratch that pretty paint do we? NOTE: There are two spacers behind the bracket that you will most likely drop when removing these bolts. Be aware of them. You can usually hold your hand under the bracket as you remove the bolts but I usually end up dropping them anyway. http://www.venturerider.org/faring/faring2.jpg The next step is to remove the top two screws, one on each side, located on the inside of the faring. These two screws hold the top of the faring together and also secure the chrome strip at the bottom of your windshield. http://www.venturerider.org/faring/faring3.jpg Once these two screws are removed, you can carefully lift the chrome strip off. BE CAREFUL HERE. There are tabs molded into the chrome strip that are fairly easily broken. Lift first from each end and gently work it back and forth to separate the tabs from the faring. http://www.venturerider.org/faring/faring4.jpg Once the chrome strip is removed, simply remove the 6 screws that hold the windshield on. http://www.venturerider.org/faring/faring5.jpg After removing those 6 screws, the windshield will just lift out. http://www.venturerider.org/faring/faring6.jpg Now you are ready to remove the remaining 6 screws on the inside of the faring. There are 3 on each side. http://www.venturerider.org/faring/faring7.jpg After removing these 6 screws, the only thing hold the front of the faring on is the screw in the bottom of the headlight ring. I always save this one for last because it enables me to be in front of the bike where I had hold the faring and safely set it aside instead of watching it bounce off the floor. http://www.venturerider.org/faring/faring8.jpg Once you have this last screw removed, gently pull the faring off the headlight and set it aside. That's all there is to it. This is what you'll have now. http://www.venturerider.org/faring/faring9.jpg Now...regardless of why you took your faring apart, take the opportunity to check the connections for your audio system and etc. The big connectors are known to cause problems sometimes. In addition to the ones here, there is another one usually tucked under the tape/radio assembly. Simply pull them apart and use some good di-electric grease to ensure that they stay dry and do not corrode. http://www.venturerider.org/faring/faring10.jpg That's all this is to it folks. Putting it back together is just a matter of reversing these instructions and..of course...turning the screws the OTHER direction. A couple of notes though. As you are putting the screws back in the faring...don't snug them down tight until you have them all started..you might need to wiggle it around a bit to get them all started. VERY IMPORTANT. Do NOT overtighten any of the screws. Especially the ones along the top edge that secure the windshield. Yamaha didn't make that top edge thick enough in my opinion and many people have cracked the plastic around these screws. Just snug them down pretty good but not TOO tight.
