never test rode a new bike in my life. every new bike i ever owned just hit me right when i looked at it, then read about it in magazines, and bought it. only mistake i ever made on a new bike was my r6 yammer. legs just would'nt bend that far. should have passed that up and jumped right into my zx14. lost my butt on that deal.

well i have completed my winter project four years in the making. built a v-twin powered prototype cushman eagle for a machinist friend of mine, with a one off fourspeed transmission that we designed and built from scratch. the whole scooter is hand made and i built it from scratch. he is now manufacturing these transmissions and primary drivetrains. i put my all in this project, and when the day came to start it up and ride it i was really apprehensive. well, i took it for a test ride down my street and it actually worked and shifted great. very fast. it has a briggs vanguard 630 cc v-twin which i built with dual mikuni's. j&e pistons ported with a reground cam. very fast will top 100 mph . you can see a picture of it at http://www.reisstoolandmachine.com anyway looking for a new project for this winter. any ideas. had a vakyrie pass me yesterday on the highway and i had this brainstorm that i have never seen an 1800 gold wing cuiser. maybe i could find a salvage one for a start. i think it would look cool and different. got a few things to wrap up on my zx14 but that should'nt take long. just digging for ideas. bill

i think tattoos on women are neat. want my wife to get one, but she's scared of needles. saw a gal with a rose on her shoulder one time really done in good taste. thanks to you to for your part in this venture. bill :clap2:

heres a good one for you. went on a long ride with wayne, aka wtho, yesterday, and we are cruisin on hwy 50 in mo. about 60mph. here's a gal on the side of the road in a dress waving her purse at us. wayne slams on his brakes and goes about 1/8 mile back to be of help. i watch in my mirror and see all kinds of running around waynes bike going on. pretty soon here comes wayne with the gal on the bike. and takes her about 3 mile down the road and drops her off at a junction and she takes off walking. i ask wayne what was all that about. he says her car broke down, she said she did'nt have no underwear on which wayne said he verified, don't ask how, she was'nt married , and he got her phone no.. i asked was she drunk and wayne said he thought she was the night before. never a dull moment when you ride with wayne. but he did his good deed for the day. :rotf:

brad, i want to thank you for getting involved in this st. jude venture, you always go out of your way to do for others and never ever will accept anything for yourself. you and lonna are true examples of what i think venture riders are all about. i love this group and i think it snowballed beyond dons belief. i thank you and don and all the venture riders that make my day everyday that i get on line here for renewing my faith in the human race. i am so proud to be a part of this bunch, i talk about it to almost all the bikers i meet and tell them to check it out. thanks to everyone. :clap2::clap2::2133:bill

the only advantage i see with a fork mounted fairing is the head light goes where you point it. not big on the appearance of a fork mount fairing cuz they look like an add on. thats one of the reasons i bought an rstd. i do think the 2nd gen venture fairing is the best looking of all of them out there, and goes with the flow of the rest of the bike like the trunk and bags. the frame mount fairing like that on the wing gives excellent protection from the rain and cold,as long as you don't have to stop. i got the ultmate rain test this year leaving branson at the eurekasprings meet. was running 70 mph in torrential rain. and the space behind the fairing was fairly rain free. shoes even stayed dry.

got to disagree with you on this. if the shipping was stated up front and you bid on it you agreed to pay the shipping cost. you did not have to bid if you thought the shipping was to high. i sell lots of stuff on ebay and have 100% positive feed back. good feed back is important to a seller. if the item arrived damaged you have a legitamate complaint. shipping is getting very expensive. $ 6.80 is not bad at all. bill

i always prefered a frame mounted fairing. my first one was a vetter windjammer back in the 70's on my 750 honda. one of the best designs ever made. as far as the pegs go. of the 70 or more bikes i've owned all but 3 had pegs. never had a problem with them. i do like highway pegs to stretch out on once in awhile , even with floorboards.

some one had to take my place since i am mellowing with age.darn i hate being nice.

it is an awesome looking bike accept i can't get past that growth on the back end, i mean the trunk. never rode one but did sit on it. things i noticed were the windshield is way out there in front. longest running boards on any bike. and very low capacity saddle bags. would i buy one? no, reason being i know everyone would be laughing behind my back. i do like the styling except for the trunk mount.

the big thing i like about the vent on my wing is it reduces the vacuum behind the shield and eliminates air coming around the sides of the shield. i usually don't open it more than about an inch. can actually hear the radio clearer with it open slightly.

went to a dealer to by a goldwing vent, and they were backordered so i had to take the whole bike. :rotf::rotf:

don't know about the fjr , but another wing for sure.

you hit the nail on the head. i'm going to say the gen 3 will be sleeker, the max engine will be close to 2000 cc, and tuned for lowend torque, throttle by wire, some of the stuff like gps, anti lock, airbag , and cb will be optional to keep the cost down just like the wing. not everyone wants that stuff and it is expensive. thats why i bought the premium sound or the cheapest wing package. i then outfitted it with the things i wanted. it won't even be close to an fjr or a sport touring bike. it will be a full blown 900 lb. tourer , and i doubt it will be as far out as the victory. oh by the way. hope you like a frame mounted fairing. and try 2011 for the year. come back 2 yrs. from now and eat me alive if i'm wrong. sorry yamaha not good with secrets.

i put 100,000 miles on alot of new bikes if i add them together.

scott, i like the kaw, but i think the 3rd gen venture is going to be a shocker, a step into the future. we'll just have to wait and see. i think i am right on this. it will be like the difference between the old max and the new one totally different from the ground up. aluminum frame, injection, frame mounted fairing (a big plus), engine a stressed member, sportbike handling, throttle by wire, abs, could have an air bag, and a big, big price tag. they don't care about us old farts. they have to go where the future money is. by the way those that are ultra conservative and anti throttle by wire, it is the cats meow. very high tech, and the throttle is controlled completely by the computor. my r-6 had it and it is the only way to go for maximum mileage and performance. kind of like an electronic cv carb. no matter how fast you open the throttle the motor tells the computor how much fuel and air it can handle efficiently. this its going to be a whole new ball game in high tech bikes. those who don't keep up in technology lose. bill

i was always anti belt drive, mainly cuz i figured it was kind of sissy motorbikish. i have had many chain drive, shaftdrive, and two belt drive bikes. i now have no problem with belt drive. it is the lowest maintenance of the three by far. my v-star 1300 has belt drive and in 6000 miles i haven't done a thing to it and the belt still looks like new and i have never had to adjust it. it is very clean and ultra reliable, as far as i can see. the only noticeable complaint is a slight howl when coming to a stop, had the same howl on my warrior. the other thing is when you do adjust it the alignment must be right on so it doesn't ride off to the side of the pulleys.
