okay, i'm going to get slammed for this. not knocking the venture, cuz they are nice bikes. i had an rstd that was basically converted to a venture accept for the fairing. i had a travelcade road sofa seat upgrade. i now have an 08 wing. the wing will out handle the venture, has way more power, you will miss the lowend torque and have to shift more often. the leg position is more comfortable on the venture. with the floor boards. they both weigh about the same but the wing has a much lower center of gravity. i just asked my wife on how she would rate the wing and venture on a scale of ten for ride and seating comfort she gave the wing a ten and the venture a seven. you will miss the injection, maybe the reverse if you use it, the turbine smoothness, if thats what you like, the lack of accessories. i personally like the frame mount fairing better. i like the looks of the venture a little better, more motorcyle like. there is no doubt about it the wing sets the standard for touring bikes as you should already know. the venture sits a little higher and is more top heavy there is no doubt about it. as far as a 600 mile ride on both of them on the highway. i would rate them real close for the rider comfort. the floorboards win out over the wing foot pegs. i truly think the venture is one of the best looking bikes on the road. bar none. i would try to get some miles on a venture before you make the move. you may like it or you may be sorry. this is my honest opinion of both bikes, but it is just my opinion. ride a venture and then decide. you ain't going to be an out cast on this site cuz you ride a wing. they put up with me, and i like the hell out of them. bill

stardbog is right on. i ride mine every couple of weeks but if you can't, start them and let them warm up good, i mean until the crankcase gets warm. if you let them sit, up and down temps will cause condensation to form in the cylinders and on the engine internals, like gears, cams, and other metal surfaces. i have had engines apart that have sat indoors unheated through the winter and there was actually fine rust forming in the cylinders and on the gears and cams. from condensation. thats why i will never winterize a bike. worst thing you can do to a motor. i also have battery tenders on all my bikes. if you do start them always warm them up completely. if you can't start them or ride them bring them inside where it is warm. i keep my zx14 in my shop at 70 degrees. i start it every so often just to get the oil up on the engine internals. at room temp i don't worry about warming it up cuz there is no condensation. remember if you do start them in the cold ,you have to warm them up completely., or you will get condensation in the oil and water in the exaust system. bill

kind of a neat thread we got going. bringing back lots of old memories. i forgot about my cb 750 hondas a 1970 and 1973. dons picture reminded me of that. i loved both of them. never had one but i liked the pacific coast like allan had. great do it all street bike.
-
could it have been you? yep it's your fault i'm with out money to by food for me, linda and my puppy. :rotf:
-
okay whats the very worst bike you ever owned? mine was a 125 cc bultaco. i bought it new and it lasted less than a year. what a piece of crap, but i had alot of fun on it before it blew up.
-
i agree. i have never met a bike that i did'nt like. i have owned and ridden some real crap but i loved every minute of it.
-
i forgot about my v-star 1100. your 650 reminded me. it is in my avatar. i wish i had it back. it was a great bike. almost, if not equal to my 1300 vstar.
-
one other question. what was the one bike you wanted the most but never had? i had to really think on this one. i always wanted an old indian chief to restore. had a chance to buy a basket case when i first got married for $75.00 but did'nt have the money. i really wanted one of them yellow and silver bsa 441 victors back in my motocross days. could'nt afford that either. making up for it now. two other bikes i had that were really awesome back in the old days was my suzuki x6 hustler 250cc, and my kawasaki mach III 500cc. the suzuki would almost break 100 mph with the wind. both like to spend most of there time on one wheel.

this is the worst winter we have had in years. it's 17 degrees and holding. been riding all winter but not very far. just keeping the oil up in the bikes.

i was just thinking of what bikes i liked the best of the 70 something that i have had . and thought it might be interesting to here from others. my favorite motocross bike of all times was my yamaha 400 monoshock. favorite fast bike but not quite the fastest was my hotrodded 88 v-max. favorite touring bike of all times, 1800 gold wing. best looking touring bike my venturized 05 rstd. best looking custom cruiser, my prostreet yamaha roadstar warrior. fasted bike by far my zx-14. favorite of my first five bikes honda 305 scrambler. now for what i think is going to be my all time all around favorite, mainly cuz it is always a joy to ride, does everything exactly right, very fast, excellent handling and ride, and looks good, and i enjoy it more every time i ride it, my v-star 1300. ya ,it's hard to believe but i'm really getting more attached to it everytime i get on it. whats everyone else's choice by category?

misfits don't even cover it. :rotf:

the shriner cushmans were mostly all eagles. some of them were all chromed including the frame. a friend of mine had one. there are still quite a few of them around. i always thought they were neat in the parades. living near st. louis and my grand father being one of the shriners there, i got to see them often. there are still thousands of cushmans out there and dennis carpenter owns a company that makes repro parts for them. you can almost build a complete duplicate of the original models with his parts.
-
to me the best sounding exaust of all times bar none is an older sporster, with drag pipes, and a cushman eagle with a factory straight pipe without the baffle. i am an expert because linda says i know a good exaust when i here one. wonder what she meant by that.
-
i'm going to a cushman meet in greenwood ar. april 17th put on by the ar cushman club. great bunch of people. i will try to work something out with them. they have alot of members including me, and alot of beautiful stock and modified cushmans. it would be like an on site museum at the rally. i'm sure there will be some forsale also. the pres. and vice pres. of the club are friends of mine. bill
-
since i'm back into the cushman scene. i was talking to a friend of mine about bringing some restored and custom cushmans to the 09 rally to put on display. may even have one people could ride. whats everyone think? they are really neat and bring back old memories. let me know cuz it will be alot of work for me and my buddy, which we don't mind. bill

well the economy finally got to me and i had to find a job. latched on to a job in over the road sales. the pay is so so, and i got a company vehicle. here are some pic's of my first day on the job. bill

it is a job changing the filter on a wing. but there are some short cuts to make working on wings easier. there is a guy that sells a set of dvd's that he made at home, on his wing. they are around $100 and are well worth the money. he has many short cuts and makes everything very simple. excellent video. i bought a set, and they have been very helpful. he makes the aircleaner job look easy. the order no. is 903-455-2555, ext 10, i wish dvd's like this were available for all my bikes.

lewis, glad you weathered the storm. are you all still short on rain down there? i here that cutzu needs lots of water to grow. lol. take care buddy. bill
