  4. mebbe so but I'm MUCH better lookin!!! :rotf:
  5. I get that noise too... but it doesn't happen all the time... seems to happen most when I've been riding it hard and only is noticeable at idle... I had the same thing on my '85...on it I rebuilt the water pump...made no difference. I've also noticed that when the oil gets below the half-way mark on the sight glass, the noise doesn't happen so... I've deduced that it's not really the water pump (although it sounds like it) but something else (clutch maybe) that is close by and the sound emulates near the water pump and is dependant on how much oil is or isn't in the bike. So, in my case, I just ignore it...chalk it up to one of those "peculiar" 1st gen sounds. ps, I've been riding this scoot now for 3 summers with that noise so IMHO, it ain't nuthin to worry about.\
  6. 100 grit sandpaper on an orbital sander is what I used.
  7. What's that old saying... something about 98% of the things that happen we have no direct control over.... I've learned from numerous such experiences that ... a) getting all wound up about it only makes MY life miserable... nobody else's b) all things happen for reasons... trust life and don't sweat over the little things. (just thought I'd share this with ya...)
  8. right on brother!!
  9. You're lucky it wasn't a BUCK!
  10. ahem... well, thousands might not believe ya... but I do. (just ribbin ya)

  14. My son has "stage 1" Screaming Eagle (I think it's called stage 1).... anyway, apparently all that is is some added chrome trim, pipes, and "Screaming Eagle" labels. For the "real" performance parts, one needs "Stage 2". (as I understand it)
  15. you mean Vista doesn't have an image resizer built-in??? that sucks! what kinda piece of crap OS is that anyhoo??
  16. hmmmmmmm dang... never thought of that.... now I'm wishin I'd gotten his name and number so I could call and thank him for my feeling so good ... :rasberry:
  17. bummer! sorry to hear that. I'd be really PO'd if that happened to me.
  18. ah yes, their advertising methods really work.... not to mention how they've followed Ford's "easy financing" scheme from years ago. Practically anyone can ride home on a new Harley nowadays and look at what they've done to the pricing over the years... they are cheaper now than 10 or 15 years ago but wait.... sign on the dotted line... payments you can "almost" afford for the next 7 years.... hmmmmmmmmm me thinks they're getting pretty good bucks for those scoots in the form of interest. (more "food for thought")
  19. "bunch of Harley riders" .... to me, that's a form of "Harley rider".... a singular plural if you will ...("bunch" being singular, "riders" being plural). yep... that's "hype" .... "Hype means “excessive publicity or propaganda.” An exaggerated claim especially used in advertisements, sales promotions and movie trailers constitute the much needed publicity for the product. The possible synonyms for the word “hype” are publicity, propaganda, exaggeration, buildup etc. Hype as a verb can mean to publicise a person, product or service by making tall, exaggerated and sometimes misleading claims. Hype can be a part of swindle or done in good faith to generate demand for a product or service. Hype is one of the popular marketing techniques done by businesses in every part of the world. In today’s competitive world, generating hype is one of the obvious means to be “heard” and “noticed.” A successful product or service is one which lives up to the hype. " and the more "Harley" is referenced... the more the hype is pumped up....yes/no? Hey... this thread is doing just that LOL. Awrite...c'mon... let's start building the hype for our scoots and demoting the hype for the Harley....
  20. like I said... had no idea of the speed and I went to 4th coz it was the next gear up and still had a ways to ge before the "S" turn!! As for what speed I'm at when shifting from 3rd to 4th when cranking it... hmmmmmmm next time I'll have to look..usually I'm watching the tach... now, you're talkin 95 Miles/hr...right? One thing to keep in mind.... I'm pretty certain my scoot has a Vmax rear end so if yours is stock, it's doubtful I'd match that speed.
  21. Oh, I do the same. not to mention it was a Yamaha... LOL No, that is one thing I don't wonder about although as evidenced by one of my other threads, it seems I do wonder about some pretty strange stuff sometimes....
  22. ahem!... now let's see... according to that, my head is worth $99 :rotf:
  23. Good idea!!! "honey...let's grab the video cam and go out and find someone to drag race with..." LOL

  25. trying to find technical guidance (aka step-by-step instructions) for replacing front fork seals on my '87. Trying to search produces a lot of un-related posts. Does anyone have a link to what I'm looking for? Thanks.
