  1. Which is why you should never ..ever..get a 2nd Gen Angel ...they just can't keep up !
  2. There you go.... as real as the Easter Bunny !
  3. Only got a couple of miles because I was supposed to go out of town to pick up a blonde 87. It was postponed until tomorrow morning. If I buy this one I have to sign up for Ventureholics Anonymous. I can't become like somebody who has like 7 of them... my EXISTING garage isn't big enough for any more.... and there is no room to add on... HI...my name is KIC and I'm a Ventureholic......

  5. Well... It is DONE and put back together !!!! I got to ride it today for 6 or so miles. The front end is so nice!!! I Purposely hit speed bumps and tried to dive the front forks.. it just all felt nice ! The progressives are great ! ( Thanks Skydoc_17) The steering is SO… SO… SO much nicer having cleaned and greased the steering head bearings. Turning is a breeze and it feels more comfortable. Also completed the battery by-pass and it is nice not looking at the flashing light and the battery symbol. Did some ABS welding on the fairing while it was apart, made and welded my first replacement tab. Installed washers on the 16-head bolts. Tightened the (added a washer to the) speedo/gauge console bolts ( no more rattle). New plugs have got to be a good thing since it seems to be running very smooth. Found a hide-a-way key, so I now have 2 keys. Don't forget the quarter I found behind the front right spark plug. ( still haven’t figured that one out) AND , most of all...got the experience to install the seals on any other 1st Gen. AND..since I am driving out of town tomorrow morning to (most likely) buy a blonde 87 1st Gen that needs front seals... I won't be so intimidated and hopefully won't make the same 967 mistakes I made the first time. A special thanks to those who helped me, Dingy for the replacement washers, SkyDoc_17 for the information, and all the others that offered so much support and the phone calls from Rocket in an attempt to keep me sane.

  7. I have an 89 and not sure what you are talking about. Could you post a picture of it so I can look at mine and understand what the info in this thread is about ? Thanks... ( at least to me )
  8. As careful as I was with plenty of warnings here, I found 2 little nicks on my tubes. I used a very fine sandpaper and a fine steel wool to get rid of the nicks. I also used scotch tape over the grooves on the forks with a little fork oil lightly spread in the lip and on the forks to slide that puppy right over. Good luck. Glad mine is finally back together.
  9. Yes, at least adding to what is going ot drain out. Once you remove the anti-dive's there are 2 holes that will let the oil flow free..free like the wind... ( don't ask how I know...)
  10. Looked a lot like a 2nd Gen when it give's out trying to keep up with a first Gen.
  11. I just completely disassembled my speedo and cleaned and greased the bearing, but if the price is right it might be cool to have one... so put me at a "maybe" depending on the $$$
  12. it will be interesting to see how the track holds up. That fire had to affect the asphalt. It looked like all the fines were melted/burned up from the top layer.. will be interesting to see if their "Bondo" job holds up.
  13. Montoya is already the most hated driver...this won't help his rep... obvously he can't handle a 1st Gen racecar.. so they will probably make him drive a slower 2nd gen car... ( sorry...couldn't help myself...)
  14. Twins from a different mother...
  15. They are using boxes of powdered Tide to clean up the mess. How's that for free advertising...
  16. Hey...who invited him to our party ?????

    stability

I just rode my 89 after installing Progressives and repacking the top ( and bottom) steering bearings. The top were totally dry and rock solid. The bottoms had a little grease still in them. I almost didn't buy the bike because of the way the steering felt. Last night' short check out ride seemed a lot different, especially in the steering and the total lack of front end dive. Can't wait to get out in the open with it. Went through a similar issue with my KLR650. Had a death wobble at highway speeds. Turned out that a combination of the ( too hard) pre-load set up on the rear shock, new tires and tire pressure all combined to throw off the rake of the front end. Unfortunately I had done too many things maintenance wise to be able to pin point which one exactly had the most impact. After many different adjustments and combos, the pre-load was the most serious adjustment. I had my 89 on the freeway twice before my tear down and work just completed. It was still a great cruiser even with the needed repairs....Can't wait to try it out with teh repairs completed.
  18. Hang in there. Hope you can resolve your situation. The therapy is the goal. When I had my shoulder replacement I gave it a lot, but not my all. Wish I did...there's that small time frame of really working through it, then keeping it up. Good Luck.
  19. I read the story behind the so-called founder, head scum, on how he became what they have become. He is a child abuser and real dirtbag that ripped people off and sent all his kids to law school so now they sue everybody over frivolous stuff and settlements. If yo Google them you can read the story from one of his sons that broke away. There is a limit to "free speech" You can't yell fire in a theater. You shouldn't be able to do what these people do to our fallen heroes. I understand the slippery slope of preventing "speech". I don't think what they do is "speech" but harassment and the intentional infliction of mental anguish.
  20. I also have a KLR650 with my Venture. It is a nice around town and back roads bike. If they let Goldwingers hang around here (cheap shot at SilvrT) ...we sure welcome a FJR....
  21. Cold weather sucks...we are only going to hit a high of 72 with clear skies. Guess I'll have to postpone the fire in the fire place and do something like ...hmm... go out and ride....

    SCAM??

The other side of the scam is when you are selling an item and they want to pay with a cashiers check or money order. Either one is a fraud even if they look good. I had a friend selling ocnstruction equipment and he was hammered with the I'll send you a cashiers check and you work with my shipper routine. If they insist on paying with a cashier's check, meet them at the bank and verify it is good. Then cash it right there.
  23. Thanks for the link. I had not seen that article in my search.
  24. You know..I just finished putting the springs all together, the fork is installed and tightened up. Was going to install the front tire, but decided to wait until tomorrow so I can clean and polish a few pieces before it all goes together. Feeling pretty dang good about the progress... AND THEN YOU GO and tell me that there is a difference in the seal washers that could affect the bushing coming up.... ..... I have no freakin idea which way I put those puppies in.... Life sucks and then you die...... ugh !

    SCAM??

I say scam too. The pictures are of a brand new one. The price is too low and the shipping would eat a good portion of the price. If it's too good to be true..it probably is.....
