  1. Yesterday after being gone for two weeks I tried starting my 07 RSV. Upon turning the key on I did not here the clicking of the fuel pump. Pulled out the choke and pressed the start button. Engine turned over, fired once then quit. Tried turning over some more but would not start. Pulled the side cover off and tapped on the fuel pump but no clicking. With the choke out I tried turning over again. It finally started and the engine idles fine with no choke after she warms up. Took it for a short ride on the interstate up to 80 mph no problems. Just tried it this morning. Still no clicking but started with choke. Now my questions 1. Is the pump necessary once the bike is started? Tank is full so I have a good head pressure now. 2. If the bike is started everyday is there a need for a pump. As this is not a fuel injected engine, is the pump merely used to charge the carbs after extended down time due to evaporation of the fuel? 3. Does the pump ever run after the engine is started? 4. I'm ordering a Posi-Flo pump as per V7Goose recommendations. I have read of other pumps being used but if you look at the reviews on line there are lots of reported failures. What are some of your experiences. I was planing on riding over to Austin, TX to watch the races this weekend at the Circuit of the Americas. It's around 500 miles one way. Don't want to take a chance on breaking down that far from home.
  2. I read with interest the thread started by foyerboy “Don’t buy from Motorcycle-Superstore.com”. I have to agree with chabicheka that the original topic is done, but I found it also interesting the answers he got from the question he posed which was “Who puts my tires on”. I got tired of dealing with the local Yamaha/Honda dealer in so much as having to make an appointment days in advance to get a tire changed. I must add their tire prices weren’t outrageous but higher than internet based businesses. A drinking buddy of mine is a mechanic at the local BMW motorcycle shop and one night I asked if they would change a tire for me and what would they charge. He said no problem and it would be the hourly rate which I think it is around $85.00 an hour. Through in state and local tax it comes to right at $100.00. That also includes balancing. I have had two rear tires and one front tire changed so far. At no time have I paid more than $105.00. When getting the rear tire changed I do take the saddle bags off so if they do get damaged it’s my fault plus takes about 15 min off the job. So far if I call them a day in advance and make an appointment at 8:00 am (opening time) I will back on the road before 9. Back in the day when the bikes I owned had center stands, I would change the tires myself. Still have the spoons in my tool box. I’m 62 now and to me it’s not worth the trouble and satisfaction to say “I did it myself.”
  3. Several great ideas as an alternant for the OEM nut! Thanks::lightbulb

    Tires

It’s time to change my front tire and I have been reading the comments about switching to the 130. I’m 5’ 9” 190 lbs and it’s a handful steering and handling the bike at slow speeds. I’ve opted to go ahead and stay with the 150 though. My question is I have used Metzelers since the OEM tires wore out. I like Metzelers but I’m not real happy with the mileage with the rear tire. Lots of good comments about mileage with the Dunlap E-3’s. I have used the Dunlap Touring Elites on a 750 Honda and was happy with the mileage. It was a hard compound tire which gave you good mileage but did not handle as good in a turn as the Sport Elite which had a softer compound which of course did not give you the mileage. Any comments would be appreciated. Also the last tire I bought was through Chaparral Motorsports. Fare price and quick delivery. Does anyone have a store they prefer to purchase tires?
  5. What are the "quick release" caps? Pain in the a** to get the OEM nuts off to access the battery.
  6. No one stole it or the helmet, it vibrated loose. Almost lost the 2nd one as it was loose when I went to use it.
  7. Use mine all the time. Had the misfortune to lose one. The one I have left was loose the other day so I caught it before it fell off. Nemo I sent you an email..
  8. I bought a RAM mount from gpscity.com for my Garmin GPS last week and its perfect. It was $35.95 and free shipping.
  9. I have never been to a shop that will patch a tire. They don't want the liability and I can't blame them.
  10. I tried spraying WD 40 on mine with no results. I've been surprised by the none use and bad mouthing of the cassette player. I prefer to use the iPad Touch or a MP3 player but every once in awhile I through a tape in. I've got a bunch of old tapes with some music that I haven't played in a while. Sometimes I gotta get the ole Leatherman out to get the tape to eject though.
  11. Had the same think happen to my 07. When I ride I usually have my IPad Touch hooked up and playing. If not I wedge a piece of black folded up rubber to hold the door shut. I haven't had the occasion to remove the front of the faring to get to the cassette player since this happened. Got a new headlight bulb (PIAA intense white bulb) to put in and when I do I'll look to see if there is something I can do. Dealer wanted to send the whole unit back to the Mfg to get it repaired under warranty. Who knew how long it was gonna be gone. Was not happy. Oh we'll.............
  12. :bighug:Really cool. I just sprung for a craftsmen ATV lift and Carbon Ones free standing adapter, which I really like. Looks like I could have used one of these and I assume at less cost. I debated purchasing a center stand but was spooked by the stands welds braking and it being chrome..
  13. I watched the video for "The One" and "The Stinger" and was impressed. Two things to think about though. 1. The RSV is a heavy bike to push up an incline on to the trailer. If you ride it up, where do you put your feet down once your up on the trailer? How many times have you read where someone put there foot down in a hole and the bike fell over on them on a flat surface? 2."The One" video shows two people loading it. Can't put the kick stand down and rig the tie downs. "The Stinger" claims it only takes one person to load and tie down. I question loading a RSV the way the video showed loading a bike. What about unloading? What do you push off of to role backwards? What happens if you need to stop for what ever reason halfway while unloading or loading. No place to put your feet down....the bike is going over. The reason I bring these questions up is I trailered a Honda 750 and a 1100 around. Both bikes half the weight of a RSV and not near as top heavy. When I got my RSV I looked high and low before I found a trailer I was confident loading and unloading by myself due to the weight and being top heavy. I came up with the "Razor". I suspect it is twice the cost and does not fold up. Of course if the bike does go over on you, you just paid for a good trailer in repairs and still don't have a good trailer. Hopefully you don't get hurt as well. I do park the bike on it though so I don't waste the space for the trailer and the bike. Just my 2 cents.
  14. Check this site out. http://clearviewshields.com/shop/product.php?id=65
  15. Here's a link to a place that sells the tool. It's $84.00 big ones plus shipping. I understand a 15% discount is given. Enter venturerider at the discount code. The name of the place is Thunder Valley Powersports. http://store.thundervalleypower.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=10
  16. Oops make that 52,000.
  17. Was thinking I may be in the market for a new fuel pump as the scoot has 152,000 miles. After a doing a review of post the Mr. Gasket fuel pump was mention several times. I went on line and Auto Zone and Amazon both sold the pump. However after reading the reviews I’m not sure this is a good replacement. Both sites had numerous complaints of the pump only lasting days and some for only minutes. Those of you that have switched to this Mfg what have been your experiences?
  18. Had an incident where the tank was close to empty and the bike started but it didn't idle well and finally quit. Did some checks then finally removed the side covers to see if I was getting fuel to and from the pump. While trying to get lines disconnected I banged the pump and for some reason I turned the key on and the pump clicked several times. Pulled the choke out and hit the start button and she cranked up and idled fine. Have not had a problem since but I have noticed the pump does not click every time the bike has sit over night or even for a few days. This had to be about 10,000 miles ago and I have 52,000 now.
  19. I bought a RAM mount from gpscity.com for my Garmin GPS last week and its perfect. It was $35.95 and free shipping.
  20. I have been using Straight Talk for a couple of years now and very happy with the service. I use the unlimited plan which is unlimited talk, text, and data for $45 a month $50.72 with tax. I'm still using the cheap flip phone I purchased for around $35.
  21. Just bought a "PIAA 10934 H4 Series Intense White Bulb" at Amazon for $23.82 plus $5.58 for shipping.
  22. If you’re a veteran the VA will see you. I live in Baton Rouge and we have a local clinic. For major problems ya got to go to New Orleans. You can drive yourself or take a bus that leaves and returns twice a day. I get my prescriptions through the VA also.
  23. I have read some old posts about center stands but nothing lately. I found this site that sells a stand but they claim it only works on models 99-06. Of course I have a 07. I’m going to give them a call tomorrow and see if that may a misprint as I would think they would all be the same. Does anyone have some feedback on the subject? http://www.buckeyeperformance.com/products.htm
  24. While quenching a thirst at the local watering hole, I started describing my problem with fellow rider. The bartender advised he, had a friend who could probable help me out. To make a long story short, his friend came by my house with his truck and tig wielded my bracket in place. He also helped remove a galled bolt. For this he charged me $40. I considered this a bargain as the local dealer wanted $520 for a new bracket but offered me a deal of $399 as I was a good customer. With the tax that would have come to $440!
  25. Warranty ran out last July. Not on good terms with dealer as they gave me the run around on a slipping clutch and the cassette door that would not latch shut. Rebuilt the clutch myself. All that was really wrong was the clutch spring. Living with the cassette door till I have to replace the headlight bulb again.
