  1. Carbon one here on the forum, see member vendors, makes a very nice adapter for the Venture. I am not sure why the Tour DeLuxe would be different from the Venture, the frames are the same, the balance will be a bit different because of the trunk andthe fairing. What I did before I got my Carbon one adapter was to make some 1.5" thick wooden blocks that I put betwen the jack and the frame to get the contact points I wanted, the one on the left front had to be notched out to fit around the kickstand switch, lots of folks are using hockey pucks, but those are not very common here in the deep south. hope this helps.
  2. My lap top goes stupid every now and again, normally a good reboot fixes it, I have seen the time or two when I had to shut down the router and disconnect all the cables and reboot it before it would comunicate, do not ask me why it worked , it just did. Also my Acer laptop has an ENet management icon on the lower right tool bar, opening that up and using the built in diagnostics on that usually works , not sure if your PC has something similar or not.
  3. Just besure to catch the spacer on the top rear one, and also watch for the rubber bushings, metal bushings and washers on the ones in the bottom of the bags, sometimes they get stuck and make it a bit tricky to get them loose and some times they fall out and you do not notice them.
  4. Loctite should not be used on or near any type of plastic especially ABS, like the plastic on the Ventures. Just the fumes can cause the plastic to stress crack and crumble.
  5. Barry you are welcome, anytime I can be of assistance I am glad to help. That route back may not have been the most direct, but should have been a bit cooler than the interstate.
  6. Not sure if this was mentioned in this thread or not, I may have missed it, but if you are having issues getting all of the air out, you can tie back the lever against the grip and leave it over night the air will tend to migrate up out of the lines into the master cylinder. This works on the brakes as well as the clutch. A little careful tapping or vibrating on the lines can help to shake the bubbles loose that may be clinging to the inside if the lines or fittings, just do not over do it to where the fluid starts to splash out of the master cylinder if you have the cover off. Brake fluid eats paint and plastic for breakfast, lunch and dinner, if any is spilled on painted or plastic surfaces get it off immediately and wash the affected area off with soap and water and then rinse completely.
  7. WillyB I picked mine up at a local swap shop that goes on every month in Webster , Florida. I hve been many times , sometimes they have them sometimes not, sometimes in good shape sometimes not. I have also seen a few for sale here in the classifieds. I have seen them on Ebay, I think they are out of production , so they are getting scarce. There is a write up on installing them that Freebird did in the tech section for second gens if you are interested.
  8. Here is a link to them on my bike. http://s40.photobucket.com/user/royalsteve/media/VENTURE%20REAR%20LIGHTING/NOLIGHTSON.jpg.html?sort=2&o=2
  9. I just installed a set of Harley tail/brake lights on a Venture, I made a pair of jumpers so there is no cutting or T-tapping into the existing wires was required. See the attachment for photos of the brake and taillight jumpers, each has single male bullet pin on one end and double female bullet on the other, with clear rubber boots. These plug right into the factory set ups behind the license plate. I could supply these jumpers and a mating male bullet for you to attach to what ever you are wiring up for $3.00 each plus postage. Trying to gauge interest, if there is enough I will post them on the classified sections under Member Vendors section. Let me know what you think. Thanks
  10. You missed some good home cooking. Barry and Sunn are on their way home, I took them about a quarter of the way back on state road 42, pointed him towards US 301 , as long as he makes a left a US 301 he is in good shape.
  11. The slave cylinder is # 27 in this break down. http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com/oemparts/a/yam/50045f8cf8700209bc794e73/clutch
  12. This sounds goofy, but here is what happened to me once. Had a turn signal circuit flashing fast like one of the bulbs was burnt out, but all bulbs were lit and flashing. Swappped the front bulbs left to right the problem followed the bulb. Replaced the suspect bulb and everything was fine. The turn signal filament on that bulb was broken and some how the run filament was flashing in it's place, the resistance on the two filaments is different so that affected the rate of flash, so check your bulbs, could be taking the stuff off jarred the bulb enough to make the filament break.
  13. Guys, Thanks for the endorsements. I have light bars ready to ship. If you use a brake light modulator it realy gets the cager's attention.
  14. If the LEDs are not dual intensity or there is only one circuit in the light you will need something like this to convert it to be run / turn or run / brake. It has a diode and a droping resistor to reduce the voltage to the LEDs for run mode ond no resistor for brake / turn mode which makes them a bit brighter for the turn or brake mode. http://www.chromeglow.com/catalog.asp?prodid=520657
  15. Dion That will be fine, shoot me a text or an email and I can give you the address.
  16. Sunn, Welcome to the party, enjoy that Venture. Barry, looking forward to you guys coming over, text me with the plan so I can be sure I am up when you get here. Ride safe, they are calling for 50% chance of rain.
  17. So it does, darn I am good. Quality was not very good, and the originals are long gone.
  18. Here ar esome links that may help you. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=horsepower%20of%201996%20royal%20star&source=web&cd=4&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CDcQFjAD&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.motorcyclenews.com%2Fmcn%2Fbikereviews%2Fsearchresults%2Fbike-reviews%2Fyamaha%2Fyamaha-xvz1300a-royal-star-1996-2001-%2F&ei=cQmNU7egBZSysAT-xoHYDA&usg=AFQjCNEXdwyu1xE6XEbMcEOf6ZI4styCIw http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=31147 Also if you will PM me at stevemarilyn@hotmail.com I will send you some PDF files from the pages of Cruiser Magazine that speak to all of the models from 1996 to 1999.
  19. There is a section on the 96 to 01s, just page down to find it, I did not see a short cut to them, maybe one of the moderators can put a short cut in for that section.
  20. Good to know Mike. Looks like these regulators can fail in either open or closed mode, mine over charged the battery and cooked it, a friend also with an 1100 V-Star had his fail to where it was not charging at all and the battery died in short order. So now with the Kuryaken volt LED meter I will hopefully be able to see it if it starts to act up again. Anyone wanting to install one of these Kuyaken LED volt meters, let me know I have a plug and play set up that lets you tap into the power and ground lines that feed the auxillary plug on the left inside of the fairing. Easy as pie, un-plug the 2 pin connector plug in my harness and connect to the volt meter, hardest thing is getting the fairing off.
  21. Just over 70,000 miles and that is an Oddessy battery.
  22. It is a Tour DeLuxe for sure. A Tour Classic has floppy leather bags, the Tour DeLuxe had hard bags. The Tour DeLuxe from 97 to 01 hard hard bags like yours, they are different than the ones on the Ventures and the later model (05 to 10) Tour Deluxes that used Venture bags. It is possible that after 99 when the Venture came out the original Tour Deluxe used the Venture style bags, because the original style bags had a bad habit of shedding the lids as you went down the road, because of the way they fastened on, I just do not remember for sure i fthey made that change to the TD before the 05 Venture base done came out. A quick check of the parts fische would tell you if you really need to know. All Tour DeLuxe and Tour Classics had fender emblems on them when they left the factory, some removed yours, that is easily done with a hair dryer and some fishing line. Also That color scheme and style was never offered on a Tour Classic as far as I can remember, only on the Tour DeLuxe.
  23. Nope, connector on both cable and RR looked like brand new, wires were good.
