Need new water hoses
M61A1MECH replied to zoomjay's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
A few years back there was a fellow on here that posted a method for heat forming straight radiator hoses so they would fit a first Gen because he could not buy them. You maybe able to find his posts if you search for them. -
Go here http://www.geezerglide.com, woody is a member here and a good guy.

Just curious, How many Wing Riders do we have on the site?
M61A1MECH replied to Midrsv's topic in Honda Goldwing Tech Talk
Yeah I agree with the last three posters, same feelings on the comfort and style, but the wing really is superior in so many other ways, unless Yamaha comes up with something really spectacular (and my wife says OK) I am staying with what I have. -
Dion, Looks good, I knew you were going to that after talked at Jaxsons. Looking forward to seeing it in person in a few weeks. Yeah I guess you can stay, but you may have to hang with Barry and me on our GLs.

Another neat way to repair or join plastic is with ultrasonic welding, used a lot in production plastic fabrication, I suspect the cost of equipment would be out of range of the home hobbiest.
-
Senior officers were OK, LC and above, it was those junior officers you had to watch out for, I always heard the that the most frightening thing to the Army guys was a Second Lieutenant with a map in his hands.

OK executive decision. The date is the 23rd. The place is Cowpoke's watering hole, Sebring. Thanks Tuftom Time is 11:30 meet and chat go in for lunch at 12 noon.

The lake placid area was selected because it is the most centrally located area for most of the folks that normally attend. There is nothing wrong with Jaxsons, but Dion you and your wife said something about downtown Lake Placid being quite scenic, any place down town to recommend.

you think it has a cassette player?

I went right by that place yesterday, looks like a deal, we can plan better as it gets closer.

Tom, I just rode over to Umatilla , pretty good riding over there. It is a little far out to make a firm commitment, but I will put it on my calendar as a reminder. Where will you be staying? Unless something drastic happens at work, I will only be available on Saturday the 27th, but that gives a good day of riding and lunch in Mt Dora or Eustis.

So I heard that there is now a new holiday on the calendar. Star Wars Day. When is it you ask? it is on 4 May. Why you ask? Well because we all know the Star Wars tag line is........ "May the Fourth be with you"

So here is what a fellow over on the Stratoliner forum did. He bought one of my break out harnesses and connected his load resistors from the turn signal break outs and then took the other side too the ground wire. Worked out well and no wire cutting or splicing on the bike's harness and you have tag wires for extra brake lights or tail lights. here is link for a Venture set up. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/photopost/showproduct.php?product=4&title=aux-lighting-harness-for-2nd-gen-venture&cat=18

Gas smell when parked
M61A1MECH replied to hoochster's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Gasoline smell after parking the RSV is a pretty common issue, I had it happen from time to time on mine, it usually a slightly sticking float valve (needle valve) in the carbs. One quick solution is to turn the petcock to the off position when you park the bike, that will stop the fuel from gravity feeding to the carbs and stop and seeping thru the needle valve(s). The other thing I would do when it happen to me was to treat the bike to a good health dose of Seafoam, like half a can to a full tank. Run the bike to get some of the treated fuel in to the carbs and let it soak for a while with the petcock closed. Run the bike with the petcock closed until the engines dies due to fuel starvation. I would normally just leave it like that until my next ride, then I would cuss because the bike would not start and after a few minutes of foul words I would remember that some idiot left the petcock closed. I learned to trick myself into the remembering the petcock was closed by removing the key from the bike and hanging it on the wall, so when the key was not where it normally was it reminded me that something was different about the bike. Actually worked on my simple brain. So you could try that. I would replace that gasket if you can get one, otherwise try lubing it with some silicone grease that may help. Not sure there is any thing wrong with the hose, but you may want to put a piece of rubber between it and what ever it is laying on, a piece of tubing split would work well for that. I can not tell you if it a fuel hose or vent hose. Also make sure the vent hose that comes off the fuel tank near the filler is attached and also make sure it is not plugged, have heard of folks here in the south finding mud daubers leaving there handy work in the open end of that vent line. Good luck keep us posted. -
Just curious if there are other Bourbon drinkers here. If there are what are you drinking? I usually default to Woodford Reserve, I really like their Double Oaked, but cannot afford to drink it as a regular, so I stay with the reserve most of the time. Knob Creek and Markers Mark will do in a pinch, because Woodford is not always available when I am out traveling.

Now there is a name , Jerry Clower I have not heard in a long time. He is really funny.

Songs your friends would be surprised to hear you listening to....
M61A1MECH replied to bj66's topic in Watering Hole
After Jimmy Buffet , JJ Cale has become one of my favorites, right up there with Mark Knopfler and Emmy Lou Harris, Should not be a surprise to anyone that knows me but you often hear me listening to. As note of trivia, Emmy Lou Harris was born on the same day, (different year) that I was, April 2. -
Nothing stock from the factory like that, at a point many years ago there was a kit available to bore out the cylinders to increase the displacement from 1300 to 1500cc, that would have had an effect on the horsepower, but I have no idea how much of an effect. I have not heard of or seen that kit offered anywhere for over 15 years. Other possibility is that what you heard about was one of the RSV where some one did major surgery on the frame and stuffed a V-Max motor in a RSV. That is a huge project, just ask Dingy, he is doing similar with his Gen I motor swap to a Royal Star frame bike. It can be done, but is not for the faint of heart and likely requires a large pile of extra money to be available.

Working on firming up a date, it only took us 5 months last time to do that, so no worries, right:confused:

Lets do Jaxson's in Lake Placid again, towards the end of the month, I vote for the 23rd or 24th, meet there at 11:30 eat at 12:00 noon.

MiCarl Good feed back thank you, I knew it could not be easy as Click & Clack made it out to be.
-
Carl, That could be, I could have understood incorrectly or maybe my old brain just did not remember what I heard correctly. If pushing on the plunger does not result in air or fluid being pushed up to the reservoir with the lever pulled back, then with a light pressure applied to the system by the syringe you could try slowly releasing the lever, again being careful not to have air or fluid spew out like a geyser. Who knows, with those two jokers on "Car Talk" you never know when they are guessing and when they know what they are talking about, but they are comical to listen to.

There continues to be many posts about folks having trouble getting the air out brake lines and the clutch line. The clutch is much harder in my opinion, but both systems can be painful at times. I was listening to "Car Talk" this weekend, must have been a rerun because Tommy (God rest his soul) was on the show and he died over a year ago. Anyways, a caller was having trouble bleeding the clutch on her car after changing the master cylinder and slave piston. After the usual banter back and forth, Ray offered an idea that he says they use in their shop. Get a large syringe and fit it with rubber tubing that will fit securely on the bleeder. Fill the syringe with brake fluid and open the bleeder and depress the clutch, with the help of an assistant. Slowly depress the plunger on the syringe and force brake fluid back up into the system, that will push out any air and it should bubble out in the master cylinder reservoir. I had not heard that idea before, sounds like it could work. On the bikes you would have to be very careful not to push so hard as to squirt brake fluid out of the reservoir. Anyone ever tried something like this? Did it work? Maybe something to offer to the next member that succumbs to the dreaded "Clutch will not bleed" syndrome.

Shamelessly pulled this from another cycle forum. https://www.youtube.com/embed/46fk02enulQ?rel=0

I think we are fine as we are, I could go along with opening up to other Yamaha or STAR bikes, but I do not think we need it just now. I do not use the Goldwing section much, but do like having it. Chapters, do not need them. Even though I do not have my Venture anymore, I still come here first, because it is home, when it was down for the upgrade a while back, I started having separation anxiety, there just is no place like Venturerider.
