Where do I go from here??
M61A1MECH replied to Condor's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Classic signs that the seal on the driven shaft for the water pump is shot. There are only two places here the oil and coolant can mix, unless you have blown a head gasket. One is the shaft that comes out of the crank case and drives the impeller on the water pump, the other place is in the twinkie. The shaft seals have been known to go out, had it happen on my 98 Tour Classic, my regular mechanic that is a big time V-Max guy, said he had never seen it happen before he saw mine. What is supposed to happen is if one of the seals goes bad, either the one that seal the oil in or the one that seals the coolant in, the fluid should drip into the cavity the shaft passes thru, there is a small drain hose just behind the water pump housing, the fluids should drain out that hose and alert you as to which one is shot. That does not always happen. I am not sure I have ever heard of the heat exchanger (twinkie) going out, so I would lean towards the water pump shaft seals. -
Here is one on E-bay http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Clarion-C-BUS-Extension-Cables-CCA329-/160392215178?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item25581efa8a The cable is a Clarion CCA-329, I bougt one from a local auto audio shop when I first got my Venture and then yeas later when that one got pinched I bougt one from Sierra, E=Bay is the obly place I saw them this morning, do check the end connectors to be sure they are the corect gender,I do not recall what the Venture cable had.

Funkey feeling front brake
M61A1MECH replied to gez's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
My 07 started to do that, I had to drain the master cylinder and remove the piston and clean everything to remove all the old sediment. Also did as Marcal suggested and lubed up the pivot point when I pit it all back together. -
I would do As Carbon one suggesed, Tack weld them up on the bike, remove them and finish welding them off the bike, and yes diconnect the battey at least.

I just survived a lay off where i work, took out 40 people, just about 10% of the work force, not sure they are done yet. Took 2 of he 5 people that work in my department. So I am looking a little , not a lot here in Daytona that pays decent.

Good deal, you wil not regret it, now get over to GL1800Riders forum and stat reading about all the stuff you can do to Goldwings. Ride Safe.

I find the wing much easier to handle, low speed handling is much better. The ride is stiffer on the wing, but it is more responsive and the power is awesome. I have Baker like wings on mine and it is much cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. The stereo system is better and more advanced, no cassette player, no CD player just put music on a thumb drive and play it. Al in all I am glad I made the switch.

Good on you guys. Have fun and stop by Edgewater next time you are in Florida.

Yeah, but how do you get the magic blue smoke back in once it is let out?

Thanks for the up date, Our prayers are with him, very glad to hear that is OK, I wonder if his new wing was equipped with an airbag? That would be interesting to know. The GL1800riders forum has been notified. -

Are there any details? I am headed over to the GL1800 riders forum, he is a member ther also , I will report any additioanl information. -
Yeah, that is why I was asking, I am thinking Gator Cliff does not have one picked out yet and is expecting whatever he gets will not to be plug and play. I never did look into the HIDs when I had my Venture, so I was not sure what was out there. Thanks for the feed back.

Jonas, I had a little think about this request, I think if you were to remove the diodes I put into the harness that feed the light bar, and instead installed a 5 wire to 4 wire converter like would be used for wiring a trailer for a bike, you would get the effect you are looking for. Maybe some one that has a 5 to 4 wire converter can confirm that if a turn signal is on it will still flash on their trailers when they have the brake applied.

The main breaker in the panel will tell you what your limit is. Also the panel it self will have a max load listed on it somewhere, normally listed on the inside of the panel door.

Jonas, Really nice work there.

Had a request from Gator Cliff over on the Delphi forum to build an extension cable for his head light harness on his Gen II Royal Star Venture. He did not want to cut into or splice the harness on the bike to install a HID or LED headlight he was thinking about getting. He was not sure he would like it so even more reason not to hack into the harness, should he decide to take it out he would just plug the stock set up back in. So I was able to find the male connector to plug into his harness. I made him a 12" long harness, now he can dable away with out risking damage to his bike's harness. Something like that would go for $13.00 delivered to the lower 48, add $5.00 to get it to Canada. Expanding on that I am tinking maybe a break out T harness ,like the one I make for the rear lighting would have value also. If you wanted to add a set of fog lights or running lights and wanted them controlled by the head light, you could use the T out of the harness to power a relay that would turn the added lights on or off , with say the low beams or the high beams. That a set up would go for $17.00 delivered to the lower 48 and $5.00 more to get it to Canada. Just a thought I had. I am happy to make them, but would like to see if here is sufficient interest to warrent buying a bunch of parts. Let me know what you think, or steal the idea and make your own. If you want one let me know I can have the parts in a few days after the order. Thanks for considering this idea.

Is that what you use for water based motorcycles in stead of Seafoam?
-
Do not know for sure, but I think not, during the numerous bike events here in Central Florida, I have seen many a bar rider come out and get on their Harleys and forget to put the kickstand up, and you can figure out the rest.

Hey thanks Eck, I had found hose same photos, late last night or more corectly very early this morning, and was convinced they did not give what I needed, but I am glad you posted them again because looking at the first one, 'i can can just barely make out the black wire in the lower left, so that was one of the the pieces of the puzzle I was needing. The second photo I could not tell for sure if the connector had been rotated after being taken off, now I can tell it was just lifted straight off.

I have had a request to make an adapter that will plug into the headlight connecter, so the wiring can be extended to facilite the install of a different headlight. The owner does not want to tap into or cut off the existing wiring, he wants to extend it. I can supply all of that easy enough , but thought it would be nice to use the correct colored wires, green, yellow and black, in the correct locations. I do not have a Venture any more so I cannot just go to the garage and look, so I was hoping someone would have a photo showing the correct placement for each color. If not I will have the requestor check for me, before I build the unit. Thanks for any help.

Compeled To Talk About the Second Gen. Braking System!
M61A1MECH replied to skydoc_17's topic in Watering Hole
Had exactly that happen to me on my 98 Royal Star Tour Classic, back in 1999, guy stopped in front of me, I only had 3000 miles under my belt on this new bike, after coming off a 750 Virago (drum brake on he rear).Panic braking resulted in a locked up the rear wheel, now all I have is a rudder and for the life of me I cannot get it spinning again. Got stopped before I hit him, struggling to keep the bike from laying down and BAM the car behind us hits us. My wife still suffers from those injuries. So yes the rear brakes on all Royal Stars are very sensitive to locking up. Sky Doc is right on the money here.
