Oil spots on the floor.
M61A1MECH replied to Karfreek's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Crank case is or has been over filled, those vent tubes come from the air box, the crankcase vents into the air box so the fumes will be pulled into the crabs and burnt with the fuel, if the fume get to a point where they collect inside the air box and stick to the walls they condense back into oil and then drip out of the tubes. Make sure when you check the oil level the bike is level and the level is just below the mark. If you pull the air box and wipe out all the oil residue the spots on the floor will stop appearing after a while. Happens to these bikes all the time. -
Actual passport application letter sent back to state department

I know exactly how that guy is feeling, I have been granted no less than 5 security clearances for various military service and government contracts I worked on. All five went to the NSA , all five had the same information in them, for past history, family history and those sorts of things that just cannot change because they are in the past. Geeze Louise keep some records for God's sake. -

Auto cancelling turn signals?
M61A1MECH replied to oconeedan's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The auto cancel is tripped by distance traveled after the signal is turned on, that is why the time stops when the bike stops. I am not aware of any way to increase the time they stay on. I was always in the habit of tripping the signal back on if I traveled any sort of distance before turning, to keep the signal flashing. -
Back in the days when I was working on aircraft weapons release systems, we got a call to trouble shoot an issue one of the load crews wrote up in the log book. Just a bit of back ground, the load crews are responsible for loading the bombs, missles and ammo on the aircraft before the sortie. The last thing they do is to check for stay voltage at the firing pins where the ejector impluse cartridges go. So we get to the aircraft , check the log book and here is the write up from the load crew. "Suspect intermitent stray voltage." So we checked and did not find any intermitent stay voltage, cleared the write up, impluse carts got installed by the next crew and off they went.

I bet all the bits and stuff that is shedding off the friction plates from the gas disolving them is playing havoc on your lubrication system. If it were me I would stop riding he bike until I was able to pull the clutch pack out and see what damage has been done. I wonder what other plastic or rubber parts in there may be affected. Did you fix the problem that allowed gas to drain into your crank case? If not I would also make that a top priority.

Actually just a bit north of St Augustine. My STAR Group will be doing on the Saturday, not sure where we are eating yet, waiting on ride captain to send details on the ride.

Not trying to hijack your thread, but here is a neat event that happens in Florida every year, our STAR chapter is planning to go, could be a Meet and Greet then do the show. I have been a couple of times, lots of nice bikes, restored, show and daily riders. http://ridingintohistory.org/the-event/

Two points: 1) On my 07 Venture I did the SkyDoc spring upgrade, received the full thickness plate but never installed it, pulled my Bushtec with it no issues. 2) On my 98 Royal Star Tour Classic it had all full thickness plates, so it baffles me why Yamaha changed that set up on the Venture, Gary be on to something.

I thought the wire was left out when a full disc was used in the first position, because the extra thickness blocks the grove the wire sits in.

Barry, You know I am thinking that the Goldwing riders are on to something with the way they do their RTEs. Someone posts, "Hey I am going to be at so and so resturant on this date this time" let me know if you are interested, usally not more than a weeks notice, sometimes only a day or two notice. Somehow it works for them they always have 10 to 20 people show up. Now bear in mind that many or most of those guys are retired and most all they do they Ride, Eat and Sleep,(repeat) in that order. Maybe they know something we do not.

Had to do the same, now it works all the time.

GW Problem - Air gets into rear brake system
M61A1MECH replied to Eck's topic in Honda Goldwing Tech Talk
OK, so I was off by 1 year, the question remains, what is it about the systems that are not included in the recall? Presumably 2013 and up are not affected, because they are not on the recall list? Is it that 2013 owners and above have not reported the issue on dragging brakes so they have not been included? I realize you will not have those answers, but it seems to be a fairly logical question to ask, I expect Honda does not have an answer for that either. I will swing by local Honda dealer and see if the service manager has any answers, he pretty good and usually on top of things. -
GW Problem - Air gets into rear brake system
M61A1MECH replied to Eck's topic in Honda Goldwing Tech Talk
Eck, I think that recall does not include the 2012 and up models, I have had no notice of a recall on my 2013 GW. So one has to ask , what did they do different starting in 2012 that does avoids the issue that causes the recall? Whay can't they put 2012 parts on the affect bikes? I am sure it cannot be that simple. -
It is part of the cooling system, everyone calls it the Twinkie, the parts catalog calls it a cover, there is an upper and lower cover with gaskets in between them and the block. Here is a link that shows the parts involved. Not sure how you get it out, never had to do that on either of my two Royals. I am not sure which ones you are looking at on E-bay, but this is the one I had on both my 98 Tour Classic and my 07 Venture. Very well made, very comfortable and easy to install. http://www.utpr.com/rsv.html

I have also taken the lever and tied it back and tapped on the entire line as far as I could trace it back, also have left the handle tied back overnight to allow for the time it may take for small bubbles to work thier way out, then tapped some more. Cover any paint or plastic in the process to help kep the fluid from spilling on any surfaces.

Here is an interesting post from Delphi forum
M61A1MECH replied to M61A1MECH's topic in Watering Hole
I just looked at the Kaw website, the reflector on the frong fort is very similar to the one on Vulcan bagger, mounted in a way that I think is unique to Kaw. The saddle bag hinges are also very similar to the Kaw, the rear florboards are similar in size and shape to the Kaw also. But could be a early April fool. 2015 VULCAN® 1700 VOYAGER® ABS Cruisers Motorcycle by Kawasaki -

I noticed a huge improvement when I installed the 100 LED board with flasher module on my 98 Tour Classic, which eventually found its way to my Venture. I am in the habit of watching my rear views a lot, especially after being rear ended in 98. Cagers that are coming up fast behind me in traffic or at a stop light/sign would nearly lock up their brakes if I flashed them with my brake light flasher. In my opinion, it saved me from being rearended again more than once. As soon as I am comfortable sorting out the complicated lighting system on my Goldwing, I am putting a flasher on it also.

Under the seat there is a set of connectors that hook the main harness to the fender harness, it is a small white 6 pin connector set. I make an aux harness that plugs into those connectors to allow adding more lights or a trailer hook up. With a bit of information from you and a little tweeking I can make a plug and play set up for your flasher.
-
Looking at the specs on that flasher unit, it will be a tight fit behind the license plate, you may be better to do as vzuden suggested and locate it under the seat, I do not have an adapter for that exactly but I can make you something. If you want to go this route, the best way to make the adapter would be for you to send me the unit, let me integrate it into an adapter harness for you. Let me know.

It would help a lot if you told us what make and model bike you have. If you have a 96 to 2001 Royal Star, 99 to 2013 Venture or 2005 to 2010 Tour DeLuxe, there should be at least 5 wires in there, the colors and functions are listed below. Left Turn = Brown Brake = Yellow Tail Light = Blue Ground = Black Right turn = Dark Green. I make and sell some back ro back bullet connects that will make the install a breeze and you will not have to cut any wires. PM me and I can get you a price and some up to date photos, below is a link to something simial I make, the back to back jumpers have the wire removed and the bullets are soldered right together. All who replied, Thanks again for the replies, does my heart good that the folks I consider friends on this forum, think the same way I do. The issued is now solved, the OP did contact the seller and agreed to purchase the items, so now I am still looking , and have a clear conscience.
