  1. http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/5/5_2_110.gif I just did 2 trips back to back in the N. GA mts. NC mts. and TN mts. and did the Dragon several times. Everyone seemed amazed at how well the rstd handled but I heard the moaning too. I now have 5600 miles and will go to the venoms or dunlops soon. I think the bike handles well and can't wait for new tires. I agree about the bad tires and seat situation. I had to replace my seat because it was killing my taibone. I also put seafoam in for this trip and averaged 41 miles to the gallon with speeds up to 70 at times on the interstate on the way home. I know the area where we rode pretty well and I know a lot of roads as good as the Dragon in several different areas in case anyone wants to know. I had friends down from PA and WV and they were all impressed with the ride. I have the harley king tour pack on and didn't have to tie anything down and even carried stuff for my friends at times. If you hate the bike whine then take off the windshield and you'll never hear it. Bob http://www.smileycentral.com/sig.jsp?pc=ZSzeb098&pp=ZNxmk393BBUS
  2. Thanks, I wasn't sure and didn't look that close.
  3. I saw 2 ventures the other day and they both had a cable coming up from the front of the tank over the tank with an L-shaped piece of plastic that stuck under the tank bib holding the cable in place. I presume this was used to plug something in for power. Is this a factory piece or aftermarket and where can I get something like this? Thanks Ya'll Bob http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/5/5_2_110.gif http://www.smileycentral.com/sig.jsp?pc=ZSzeb096&pp=ZNxmk393BBUS
  4. Mine is the same way as yours then. Cold, it always starts but warm it doesn't. Just doesn't seem right. But it runs good. Thanks for info everyone.
  5. What is that?
  6. While stopping now and then on the trip the bike was warm and I hold the button in until it fires but it stalls then usually starts the 2nd time. My other bike isn't fuel injected but it's a Kawasaki
  7. During my 5 day trip I noticed my rstd doesn't always start with the first push of the starter button. Very seldom does it start on the first try. My Vulcan starts always with the first try. Is this usual? Also my buddie was riding an rstd and his didn't start first time many times either. Any comments on this. 8. Has anyone found a good bike to bike radio system to use while riding with other bikes. Just did a 5 day trip all over the smokies and N.Ga mts and realized a good radio system would have been nice to communicate while riding at times. Would appreciate any input on this. 9. I couldn't sit in the factory seat for more than 15 minutes. The mustang seat pushed me too far forward and then Hartco out of Daytona made me a seat that's great with a backrest that's hard to get in but the seat is great. FINALLY! They have been making seats for 30 years.
  10. I got the harley trunk on ebay that came with the mustang studded backrest and the luggage rack and the lights. I ordered paint from Color rite to match my bike and changed the lights to leds. The trunk I got from ebay cost $600 which included shipping and yes the rack was from a venture. The rack bolts right on to the bike the same way it bolts on to the venture. You need to add a new bolt but there is already a hole there. You can't use the quick release anymore once you do this but I don't need to but after looking at the quick release you could possibly use it too if you want to do some welding. Bob
  11. I used a rsv rack which fits on perfect to the rstd and just bolted the tour pak right to it. I found the rack on ebay but you can get one from yamaha too.. I spliced the wires under the seat and used a white sheilded coaxial cable I bought by the foot at Lowes and pulled out the insides and used that to put the wires into which you can hardley see since my bike is white. The cable only cost $1.05. I didn't need a load equalizer like they said I would at Scootworks. The turn signals work fine and so do all of the leds. I have since put on a set of road king pipes and they sound good and was easy operation. Now someone called my bike a "yamadavidson" Bob
  12. Thanks mike, I might call yamaha and see what they say but they usually don't seem to know too much there. Bob
  13. Where do you plug in for the battery? I have a sirius radio and want to hook it up to my ipod that has fm receiver with headphones. Any info would be appreciated. Bob The"Fish-n-Musician"
  14. I just finished with all of the mounting of my tour pak and now I need to run the wires for lights. My tour pak came with lights and I added leds to the bottom edges and replaced light bulbs with leds that can brake, signal, and be running lights. Any suggestions on wiring? I thought about under drivers seat but do I need anything special or just splice. Thanks for any tips. 15. So that's what you use instead of oil?
  16. You need to get the venture rack that mounts perfectly to the rstd. I mounted a Harley King Tour Pak to mine and all you have to do is grind off the pin on each side which leaves a hole in the right spot and the other hole has a chrome plug on it that you take off. You'll need to get the bolts from yamaha and a 2nuts for the bolts that go where the quick release pin was. You'll have to mount the rack to the side piece first unless you weld the new nuts on. If you have anymore questions feel free to email bob@gerestimusic.com
  17. What is amsoil??????
  18. After reading about the rails I thought I'd offer a tip. I put the chrome door trim all around my saddle bags and around my front fairing and it looks great. Get the kind that is "U" shaped and it is self adhesive and covers the little space where the bags close and does NOT interfere with anything and most people think it came that way. I'll post pics soon as I'm mounting my harley tour pak and installing running lights and directional lights also on my tour pak. They are leds and I can direct you as to how to get them. You can make that tour pak have extra running, brake, and directional lighting.
  19. I have an 06 RSTD and had it up to 105 with no vibration anywhere. I agree with keeping the rpms up. Now that I have the right seat this bike is like riding a cadillac.
  20. Hey Vic, this is the Bob from Woodstock,GA. I got the seat from Hartco which is Mike Hart with diamond finish vinyl(last longer). I haven't riddien longer than an hour or so but can tell that it's perfect. They take your measurements and build it from there. Didn't take too long but I had my Vulcan to ride in the meantime so I didn't miss riding. Passenger seat is bigger as well as the driver seat. I had a passenger this weekend and she loved it especially with the mustang backrest that came with the tourpak. I'll take a px and send it to you. I also got the driver backrest which they put a pouch on the back of it for the passenger which is nice.
  21. Yes it's the yamaha factory rack I got from someone building a trike. The trunk sets fine on the rack and I used rubber washers on the bottom and bolted it down. Of course I had to drill new holes in the trunk and filled the others with silicone. Look on ebay under yamaha venture to find these parts. I put 2 bolts in the front 2 in the back and 2 on the sides and there are places to put 2 more but it seems fine the way it is
  22. They are the same. Just bought one and finally it works great. Now I need to sell the mustang seat and factory seat. They work for some people
  23. Once I mounted the factory rack which I got on ebay I set the trunk on so I could see exactly where I wanted it and I used a magic marker underneath and marked where it should be. Took off the rack and turned the trunk upside down and put the rack on according to my marks and drilled holes thru certain bolt areas(6) and then went to lowes to get bolts to bolt it on. Fits good and tight and looks good, I didn't want to put anything in between to raise it up. I took it off yesterday to get it painted the same color as my bike(Pearl white) I just added some pxs because I figured things out. Will add more as I get things done.
  24. I just mounted my Harley King Tour pak to my 2006 rstd and it works fine. The tour pak came with a luggage rack and lights which I haven't wired yet. No problem
  25. Has anyone put risers on their tour deluxe? Mine would be the perfect ride if I could get the handlebars back a few.
