  1. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9ryuwQjI4I]YouTube- Picture or Video 013.avi[/ame] I finally got this thing to work.
  2. That was the meanest burnout I have ever had!
  3. Well fudge it worked that time, never mind.
  4. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9ryuwQjI4I]YouTube- Picture or Video 013.avi[/ame] This is what I get instead of the youtube video screen?
  5. I can not seem to master embedding a video from youtube or photobucket. Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong?
  6. I guess I am not a computer whiz because I can not get the youtube video embeded for some reason but it will play if you click on it I think.
  7. I modified my Baron's Nasty Boys today so they are not so nasty. They sound good on the jack but I haven't put the rear wheel on yet to try them on the road. I welded a heavy washer with a 5/8 hole to the inlet of the baffle to reduce the flow a little and cause a little more back pressure, seems to have worked but time will tell. I am attempting a video of them. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9ryuwQjI4I]YouTube- Picture or Video 013.avi[/ame]
  8. That's how it shuts down the cylinder, by shutting off the injector which stops the flow of fuel. Only bad thing is sometimes it shuts it off when it is not supposed to. I too came off a Harley but not sure if it was an improvement or not, with the gear noise and lack of parts stocked at the dealers it almost makes me afraid to travel any distance. At least with the Harley if I needed a part it was in every small town Harley shop and most indy shops. The dealer stocks almost zero parts for the Venture. I do like the lack of shaking at idle and the more power but the cool factor is way low on the Venture compared to the Harley.
  9. Don't use the Craigslist Email system at all but list your real email. However do not list it as list@hotmail.com List it as list(at)hotmail(dot)com and then tell them to remove the obvious and send email direct to you. The other way a computer reads the craigslist email and shoots that email out to you. It can not read a non-standard format. Also if you list your phone substitute letters for the numbers such as S for the 5. Or you can spell it out. Works good for me, no more spam.
  10. I am about ready to trade back for another Harley. The Yamha dealers do not stock any parts period for these bikes. I could go to the Harley dealer or any independent shop in any small town and buy almost any part on my Road King but I have found since buying the Venture that parts are just not available. I tried to get front wheel bearings and no dealer within 100 miles stocked them, today I went in for an O ring that goes on the speedometer pickup and they saidd they would have to order it! I said "you are kidding" and the kid at the counter said,"no I am not". That is pityfull at the least. It makes me wonder how long I would be stranded if traveling cross country and broke down. I guess that is why you see more Harleys on the road than any other brand and why they hold their value better than any other brand. Guess I goofed when I didn't get an Ultra and now I have more in mine than I could ever get back. Oh well I guess i learned something.
  11. I bought a Vmax-Venture conversion final drive from John at Sportmax a week ago, it worked great and did make it like a rocket ship on wheels strting out from a stop, but I don't like the lower gearing. I don't pull a trailer or ride two up so the extra power is not needed and I decided I liked the higher gearing after all. I did check the fuel mileage with it installed and it was the same as the old final drive so fuel mileage is not an issue. If anyone would like it, I will trade it straight up for a good low mileage unit that has no problems and looks good. All you will need to do is pay shipping for the swap. I figure that is much less than the 300 plus shipping from John for another one. Just ship me your old one with a prepaid shipping label and I will ship mine back, even up.
  12. Newventure decided to sell his bike so my Baron's are still for sale. I just listed them in the classifieds.
  13. Thanks just sent reply.
  14. I have a set of Baron's Bag Slash Nasty Boys for sale for $275 if anyone is interested. They have only been used four days and the baffels are already wrapped with fiberglass. going to put them in classifieds and on ebay tonight.
  15. Got the V-Max gear from John today and insalled it. For sure more low end power and I can use 5th gear around town now. Not sure if I like the higher RPM at 65 MPH+ but I guess I will get used to it. I'll know soon what my fuel mileage is. Also installed a pair of Baron's Nasty Boys along with the gears. The jury is still out on them. I love the idle and low end sound but at 60 MPH+ they get real nasty, I wrapped the baffels but it only mellowed them a little. Oh well if not I still have a set of Harley Screamin Eagles in the garage off my old Road King. It'll be Ebay for the Baron's.
  16. Here i thought I had the fastest color. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n315/rlyons_photos/Venture/venture.jpg
  17. Have decided to go with the V-Max gears from Sportmax. That should cure the growl and give me better performance. I like the fact that it will put 65 MPH right at the max torque range for the motor which in the diesel world always gives better fuel mileage as well as more power so it should apply here too. Wish me luck, I'm going to have it over-nighted so I can get it on Monday, prime riding season here right now and I am not going to let this keep me from riding. Selling the Road King so I have to get the bugs out of this one.
  18. Just a little update. I tore the bike down today and greased the drive splines, pins, and driveshaft splines, made sure it was all aligned properly, checked for gap between the final drive and drive shaft tube, put it all back together and it still growls at me. Everything was good except for the pins and front of the driveshaft. The pins were dry and rusted, the front of the shaft was dirty rust looking crude. I listened with a stethescope at 60 mph on the jack and it is loudest I believe around the pinion bearing area. What I am thinking is that in all the years it has not been ridden enough and maybe the pinion bearing rusted and now is pitted making a growl. In 11 years it has only went 6,000 miles and only 300 in the last year and it was stored under a covwer on a carport in Central Mississippi so moisture was a problem. I see Pinwall has a final drive for $189.00 with 50,000 miles on it but they have a as is policy sio that makes me a little nervous. I may just tear into it and see what I can see before buying a used one. I just know the growl I am getting can't be normal, I do have the whine from the engine but that is ok. maybe I should go back to my Road King, at least all it's noises can be chucked up to ITS "S A HARLEY.
  19. Was the whine more like a growl? Mine sounds like a gear growl.
  20. No one??
  21. I have searched the site to death about the whine these bikes have but need a little clairification on it. Is the whine everyone talks about the gear noise when accelerating up through the gears? I get a loud whine or growl I would call it when going up through the gears, it softens up when cruising and then at higher speeds I don't hear much at all. Just checking to see if the growl is what everyone is calling a whine? I know mines not worn with only having 6,000 miles on it but just want to be sure nothing is wrong before the long summer trips. This is the first Venture I've owned since many years ago. My other bike is a Harley Road King and it makes all kinds of strange noises but that is normal for them. I have changed all my fluids except for the antifreeze which I am going to do tomorrow(can't believe I have to pull the tank to do it), and I am waiting on new tires as these are the original 2000 tires on it now. i just want to be sure I have covered everything before hitting the road. I have split the fairing and braced the windshield and repaired the tabs on the windshield chrome thanks to the info here. I have certianly gotten my money's worth out of the site already so I was glad to donate my 12.00. thanks to all who have helped me so far and I look forward to meeting some of you out there on the road one day.
  22. For sure I have already gotten my money's worth so I will join for sure.
  23. Thanks Dale.
  24. Thanks Earl, I plan to do just that.
