  1. Success story. I put my driven shaft in the press and applied a little more pressure to it and got the bearing and gear(s) to come off. There was a bit of a wear groove which was making things stubborn. I would not have even second guessed what I was doing except that any parts schematic I looked at online showed a clip on the end of the shaft. I could not see one... So.......gearsnbearings loaded on shaft, tranny back in the motor, covers on and getting ready to slide it back under the seat where it belongs. Thanks fellow gear heads.
  2. Anybody else? Skydoc? Freebird? The new shaft does not have a groove cut for a snap ring on the end, just down at the last gear, easy to see that particular snap ring/circlip. I am thinking it is going in the press tomorrow for a little harder push. Bearing must just be seated extra hard. Guess I will find out. Thanks for looking. hpd
  3. So... my tranny needed some work. I have the parts. I am swapping gears and bearings over to my new transmission drive shaft. I have the end of the shaft with the proverbial wore out shims done which is the main cause of the second gear slip! I am trying to get the gears and bearings off the other side of this shaft. I see no circlip and the assy is tight...even put some light pressure on it with my press. The parts schematic shows a circlip, but I see none... ( part number 25 if you can open the attachment) Anybody? Hate to push to hard and damage something.
  4. First thing................make sure where the fuel is coming from. Is it actually coming out of one of the overflow tubes or is it leaking out of the cover assy' itself. The gasket for the cover must be seated in the grooves correctly in order to not leak. It is a thin o-ring style doo-dad that is pre-formed to fit.n Easy fix to pull the cover and re-seat the gasket. If it is coming out of an overflow tube then you have a float ot needle and seat issue. Could be debris in the seat or possibly the tang for the float is not completely over the top of the needle itself. All four vent tubes when attached make a hard turn to the rear and go out to the swingarm apex to drain. Good luck HPD
  5. I have been using 15 wt and it rides great!
  6. I was afraid I had something much worse going on. Was just about finished getting all the bugs worked out of this machine when those wires burnt. Can't put a price on you folks "experience" because it is invaluable. Thank you very much for the useful info. Especially the little details like all the wires are common. HPD
  7. Just doing some tinkering on my 83 XV. I started it up because I was gonna maybe tinker with my new carb synch gauges. After a couple minutes of warm up time I notice a wisp of smoke coming up thru the frame. Shut it down to have a look see, and what I found was a connector from the rectifier doing a meltdown. Real hot. Three white wires from one side and three black ones going towards the stator? Anyone have any ideas? Didn't seem to effect how it runs but definitely something is wrong. Me not so happy.
  8. I have a fair supply of parts if anyone needs something. I am looking for a right side fairing and light assy right now for myself. Thanks members for a great site.
  9. Howdy Folks. Need to do some adjusting on a couple 83 bikes I just bought. Does anyone have a loaner kit available with shims and tool? I am willing to contribute. Thats what these winter days are for, tinkerin' with da tools.... Thanks much, Scott
  10. I am looking for a kit to do my valves. Still have your goods by chance??? Thx much Scott
  11. I could benefit from the use of the loaner kit. Let me know if it comes available. I have the engine on my bench staring at me now! Thanks much
