  2. Seems to be a known problem with the RSTD and RSV's where the shifter bolt loosen's up. Had the same thing happen to me while on a trip in Tenn. Stopped by a local dealer and found that the "special bolt" was a special order item. But they found a bolt that would till I got home. Went to Bike Bandit's webpage and found the bold under the Transmission section for my 2004 RSV .. Just checked that site and it is listed for $2.77 and the washer was $2.28 plus shipping.. Hope that helps.
  3. Hey Bongobob.. yes, we will keep in touch about the handlebar upgrades. What heaters are you looking to install? Did you compare others? Ragtop.. thanks .. I am looking forward to the handlebar upgrade. I currently have the handlebar risers on and like them but don't like that they scratch the plastic gas tank housing and that they rub the bottom of the inner fairing every bump I go over. Want to get the handlebar mounted back to it's normal location.
  4. Hi folks.. I'm looking for some thoughts, ideas and input on some projects I am thinking about doing over the winter. Any thoughts or ideas are greatly appreciated. This is to my 2004 RSV: First project - Lower the front Does anyone have any experience with the Barons Performance front fork lowering kit vs just the spacers being added to the forks. What are the differences in handling? Does anyone recommend the Performance lowering kit or not? Second project - Handlebar replacement and braided cables. Will be giving Buckeye's (I thank that was who is recommended here in the forums) a call to get all the parts. Looking to replace the stock handle bar with the Flanders one with more pull back. I am thinking of adding heated grips at that time and am wondering if anyone has added heated grips.. if so, what was used? I like the stock grips as my hands are on the smaller side. I have used the ISO grips on previous bikes but do not like them due to their larger diameter size. Has anyone used or added heating elements to the stock grips? How do you like them? I am also looking at the Avon brand heated grips. Not sure yet what their diameter is vs the stock grips. I figure while I have everything apart to lower the front, I might as well do the handlebars and cables at the same time. Thanks for all the input... I don't always post a lot but love to read the articles and this site has been a constant source of help when needed.
  5. My thoughts and prayers to Larry and Joyce in there time of need.. hoping for a speedy recovery Larry.
  6. Hi Folks, First, let me say that this is definitely one of the best sites around and the folks here are always informative and if nothing else.. entertaining.. I have been on this site for about a year and a half and have found the tech sections and discussion very helpful and informative. Best $12 a year I have ever spent. The question I have for everyone is .. has anyone ever tried or is using the Baron's Longboard replacement for the stock floorboards? I have tried different style highway pegs and nothing seems to work for me but want a little more room to adjust my feet while out riding. Have seen the the longer floorboards on the Victory's and think they are a great idea. Have been looking for something similar and found the Baron's version but not sure how they would really work or how adjustable they are.. front to back.. side to side? Thought I would check here before I go and blow $300 on new floorboards and don't fit my needs either. Thanks Ah.. PS.. I am riding a 2004 RSV.. love the bike .. one of the best touring bikes I have ridden..
  7. I had Rick's seat mod done last year before my trip to Sturgis.. and OMG .... I was amazed at how comfortable they were.. except for the stiffness of being seated in the same spot.. the butt was great.. while my other riding buddies couldn't say the same for the all day riding we were doing. 12 days on the road and just under 5K miles.. Rick.. just want to say Thanks .. one of the best mods I could have done. Don
  8. I have had the EZ-Pass here in NY for a number of years... the MC one that is as well as for my car. There is a difference in the toll you pay when on the MC.. not sure about when pulling a trailer. But.. if you go to the EZ-Pass webpage for NY and to go plans.. at the bottom it outlines what you should have for your plan designation AND yes there is a separate MC transponder that I was sent.. with a big MC on the front. Here is the link - http://www.e-zpassny.com/en/about/plans.shtml Hope that helps.. Don
  9. I agree with Jim on checking with what the State regulations are in the state you live in. I am pretty sure that there are a lot of states out there that require all auxiliary lights be off with the high beams. That is why when you are in your car or truck that has fog/driving lights, you hit the high beams and the auxiliary lights go out. I run mine all the time even though in NY they have that same rule.. I also have the factory switch hooked up so I an turn them off when ever I want.. but if you do that and it is against the regs in your state.. be aware you may be helping to fund that annual policeman's ball
  10. I posted this a little while ago on one of the other headset threads.. Sierra Electronics has "Last years" Elite Models on clearance - http://www.sierra-mc.com/products.asp?cat=326 at substantial savings if anyone is interested in the J&M brand. I have been using them for the past few years and they are great. Prior to that I used the "cheaper" ones and found the same as others.. they only lasted about a season. Headsets are like tires... everyone has their personal favorites
  11. I used one on my Valkyrie... it worked great as a throttle lock. The one I preferred was the one by Breakaway.. it is deactivated by the brake lever or manually.... http://www.brakeawayproducts.com/:080402gudl_prv:
  12. Awesome job.... to bad Yamaha didn't make the trunk a quick disconnect unit... love the look ... I had a Valkyrie Interstate before going to my 04 RSV and did the same conversion. I would love to get another RSV and do the same thing.. some day.. after I get done doing everything I want to with the 04.. like that will ever end..
  13. Hi Folks.. been reading the thread here and just wanted to let everyone know.. if you are in the market for the JM Headsets, that Sierra has almost all of JM headsets on closeout pricing.. http://www.sierra-mc.com/products.asp?cat=326. $155 - $175 per headset depending on model.
