Yesterday I decided to run a dedicated ground up to the fairing and when I started taking the bolt out of the ground lug I found that it was corroded to the point that the nut was 'locked' in place. I had to pry it out and found the cavity was nearly full of that white corrosion 'stuff'. The really perplexing thing is that I installed that battery new less than a month ago. I cleaned, scraped and used a small file to clean all of the corrosion off the lug as well as the nut and reinstalled with everything coated with white lithium grease. The Question ?? Why would it corrode that quickly ??

Thanks Mike - I mudddled thru the FREE vrtech for an hour and wasn't able to find the info I wanted. BTW - I looked at the mods on your "07" :clap2: I especially like the lights UNDER your saddlebags.

I have a switched line that I'm using for the passing lamps (red w/yellow stripe) and I just tied the LED's into that. What I want to do is access another switched power source for the reflector/LED side lights and any additional LED's I may put on the bike. When I find another switched line I take my LED's off the passing lamp circut.

How many switched 12v wires are available in the fairing that can be used for power for a light relay? What color are they ?

I used a 1 3/16 hole saw on a 12" extension. It may have taken a little longer but the plug was TOTALLY taken out. There were no ridges on either end, just a smooth pipe from one end to the other. The drilled out plugs did stay in the muff but I just dropped a 1" brass drift thru and it brought the plugs out.

There are 15 LED's in each marker and YES they are bright enough to show during daylight hours. But wait til you see them at night - wow !!

to LED's. I bought 1 1/4" X 3 1/2" LED's from J & P Cycle, REAL nice people, the entire experience with them was first class. The rear LED's fit perfectly inside the existing reflectors. Just popped the reflectors out, drilled another hole to accept the wires and ran them thru the crash bar. On the front I replaced the reflectors totally with the new LED's. I had to make a backing plate out of aluminum with a stainless flat head screw thru the lower portion. Not wanting to make the wires bulky I merely taped them with black electrical tape and ran them with the brake line. I didn't attach them to the line but I think I can find some stand offs to keep them in place if they start moving. The LED's are 1 1/4" wide and the smallest aluminum flat I could find was 1 1/2" so I cut them down with my band saw, knocked the corners off and went to work with 180 girt paper. With some patience and a lot of rubbing I managed to come up with 4 smooth edges on each one and nice radius on the corners. To set the stainless ( 12/32 X 3/4" ) screw in the plate I drilled, put a champfer in it and locked it in place with it's nut then used a nail set to 'marry' the aluminum to the screw head. Then just for insurance I put a drop of crazy glue on the head and the underside. I neglected to take a picture of the front mounting plate but it's pretty simple once it's shaped to the LED. Thanks to all that have already done this conversion, it ended up a fairly easy chore. So - thanks for posting your methods and results

Monday I had my Kumho installed on the bike, rode home and was working on a 6' ladder, made a misstep off the ladder and really caused myself some pain Well, that shut down riding for all of this week even tho we had some really nice weather. Monday I go in for a cataract removal in my right eye. There goes another week or so of being grounded Hopefully in another 10 days or so I'll be able to give the Kumho a good tryout. Almost forgot, a good thing has come of it all. I ordered side reflector/led"s for the front and rear. Got plenty of time to mount and get them fitted right.

You guys keep it up - I got my Kumho mounted, rode the Venture home, about 8 miles and parked it in the garage. I have 35# in it right now and did notice a little wiggle at 50 - 55 mph on a straight road but I did induce it. I deliberately swerved right then left to see what would happen. It didn't feel loose at all, just a little wiggle. btw - I'm right at 200# and won't be able to ride for at least a week. messed up knee and cataract surgery on Monday Maybe I need to go to 40# - I need to get it figured out before I go 2 up, my wife is already second guessing a CT on the bike.

Ok - I iced it down and called the neighbor that I hire to do stuff for me. We just finished putting the door opener up & it works so I'm off to the recliner and more ICE. GOOD thing is that I haven't felt inclined to take any meds, seems like it OK till I try to bend or bump it or anything else that I would NORMALLY do. Can't wait til I see the doc tomorrow, I'm sure he'll be impressed.

About an hour prior to my "incident" http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?threadid=38354 - I had my Kumho mounted. I rode home from the tire shop, about 8 miles and the only thing I have to report at this point is that when swerving to miss a road kill I felt a little 'wiggle' in the rear. I don't consider that a problem because I deliberately forced a severe swerve just to feel the tire. I'm sure that when I put the Avon Cobra on the front, the wiggle will go away as the front and rear tires will be in 'sync' and the bike will absorb and react with the radials. At least that's how my last Wing behaved with a set of Michelin Radials on it. At any rate, I feel safe and comfortable with my decision to go to THE DARK SIDE. Now all I have to do is be able to ride again.

Thanks Guys (you to Annie) - I guess my problem wasn't so much the ladder as it was not paying attention to what/where I was. I really thought I was on the first step on the ladder when I was actually on the second step. I guess I could re-think this over and over but the bottom line is that I screwed up. just not paying attention - sure is stiff and sore this AM - better get the ice bag out of the freezer - - - -

I decided to change the garage door opener today. I had an ancient opener on the second door and recently put a new opener on my first door. The one I took down I inspected and found that all it needed was a new drive gear. $8.50 on ebay - I took the old gear out and replaced it, check and all was good to go. Here comes the stupid part 4 months ago I had a total right knee replacement and things were going OK. I wasn't totally happy with the results but life goes on right ? I could ride my Venture 2 up safely so what more does a guy want ? While on the ladder I removed the blots from the old drive unit and started down the ladder. I obviously forgot how to count because as I stepped down with my good leg to the floor level I realized that my bad knee was still on the SECOND step of the ladder. Normally that would not be a problem BUT the bad knee was the one that was just replaced. When I could open my eyes thru the pain I saw that I had bent my replacement knee more than the Dr. said I would ever be able to. So there I stand with a 20 or 25 lb. drive unit in both hands, my leg bent were it shouldn't be and nobody home. I managed to get into the house and lay down on the floor long enough to quit sweating and regain a regular breathing rate. With the help of left-over pain medicine (I dislike the word DRUGS) and some ice most of the swelling has gone down. So perhaps one good thing did come of the incident after all. I still have a small job to complete for tomorrow ? or whenever I gather enough courage to get on a ladder again. AND -- it looks like I may have gotten a LOT more range of motion in my replacement knee. Life is good and God is GREAT !!

I do hear noise when there is no hard torque - but I REALLY have a hearing problem and sometimes high pitch noises come in pretty clear.

actually - my engine noise comes in at easy cruising, when there's no labor or torque against the motor. anyway, it seems to noisiest then. When I labor the motor up a hill, the road king muffs and the radio drown out any motor noise.

I ended up with Road Kings with the 'freeze plug" knocked out. Nice deep throaty sound.

Well, I changed the oil - put Mobil 1 10w40 in and it didn't seem to change the whine. On Monday I went to our local Yamashop and spoke with the lead mechanic. After a short talk he said he would need to ride it to determine if the clutch basket change would possibly make a difference. The key was in it so off he went. About 15 minutes later he was back and said he would change the basket if that's what I wanted " BUT " he also said that I have one of the quieter Ventures. Now I realize that the shop is busy right now and perhaps didn't want any additional work but looking at it from a business sense, one would think they would schedule it to be done anyway because it's basically FREE money for them. What he did suggest is that the next time I change oil that I consider using 20 w 50 oil. That 'might' help somewhat he said but there are no guarantees. So yesterday I found that with a helmet on, the XM radio up to 14 - 16 and enjoying the scenery, I really didn't even notice a whine.

This September will make me the happy owner of my FIRST Venture and it's been a learning experience from day one. Am/FM/CB/ Zumo 550/ XM radio/ radar detector/ is there anything else that can be added. I could stand a little more confusion Yep - forgot about the intercom - that should do it
