  1. I have aluminum motor mounts ready to install. I did some research last night and it would be closer to $1200.00-$1300.00 to rebuild. A good used motor is looking better. The only other thing besides the motor would be the brake lines. The motor in the bike now has the high output stator, but the used motor I looked at doesn't come with one anyway.
  2. Ya, after doing some math myself I found that $700.00 is way low. I need to get a machining quote and then get a parts list together and get all that priced out and see where I'm at.
  3. Thanks for the reply. I thought about an engine swap, but I would still have a used engine. I can can get a 1300 localy for $500.00. If I could rebuild my 1200 for under $700.00 I would be happy and know I have a new engine. I don't have a problem with second gear yet but I could do that upgrade right away. The bike runs good the way it is but it could be better. I really like this thing. Even with the weak cylinder my nephew can't keep up to me with his Harley.
  4. I have a bad #2 cylinder on my 85 and can not find new pistons and rings. Will Vmax pistons and rings work in the venture motor? Vmax pistons and rings are still available from Yamaha but not the ones for the Venture. I have not asked this question at the local dealer I figured I could get a better answer here.
  5. This is great set of instructions. [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=496]Fork Seal Replacement - VentureRider.Org[/ame]
  6. I only have 1 car frame left, When I do get some more made I will post it. I have to wait until I have room in a sheet of stainless in the laser.
  7. I'm sure that I have one. I just need to know where to send it.
  8. I have a miss on the #2 cylinder of my 85. I did a compression test on it and it was low about 65 psi. I the did a leak down test and had air leaking out the exhaust. I took it in and had the valve clearance checked, but only 2 intake valves needed adlustment and not on the #2 cylinder. I am to the point of pulling the head and replacing the valves. The bike runs really good even with a weak cylinder, but I want it to 100%.
  9. That looks great, I'm glad you like it.
  10. All of the "Life's A Venture" tag frames are gone. Thanks to all that purchased them. I will be sending them out as soon as the USPS delivers the shipping supplies I need. Thanks Again, Randy
  11. It's 55 degrees and raining. I think winter is starting in Wisconsin
  12. I only have 1 MC frame left.
  13. Here is a picture of an actual MC frame the car frames are the same just bigger I don't have a picture because they are wrapped up ready to ship. To the members that have ordered some I appologize I have not shipped them yet because I am still waiting for the USPS to deliver the shipping supplies I ordered. If anyone is interested I have 2 car size and 4 MC size left. They are $6.00 ea. plus $5.00 shipping per order up to 3 frames. Send me a PM if you are interested. Thanks, Randy
  14. I bought mine at our local Fastenal store and while i was there i bought new stainless socket head screws to replace the old ones.
  15. I think i'm going to let the shop handle this time because The #2 cilinder exhaust valve has no clearence to measure right now, it's slightly open that's why my commpression is low on that cylinder. I know the mechanic that is going to do the work so hopfully he will let me be there when he does it so I will know what I am doing next time. He also told me it should be checked again after 500 or so miles because there could carbon build up around the valve from being open. I will be able to do the follow up check.
  16. I thought about doing it my self but by the time I bought the tool and possibly 16 new shims I wouldn't be any money ahead. The tool is around $40.00 and the shims are about $10.00 each. I didn't know anyone had a shim kit to lend out. Who has such a wonderful thing? And what are terms of use?
  17. A local bike shop quoted me $150.00 to adjust the valve clearence on my 85. That sounds like a fair deal to me. Or does that seem low or high any opinions.
  18. I had the same problem with my 85. It turned out to be to much free play in the clutch lever and it was not making contact with the switch. Also make sure that the cable is connected to vacuum actuator and make sure it is not broken.
  19. The good news is my engine is original, the bad news is the serial # 000214 guess I will deal with the 2nd gear when it starts slipping. Thanks Again, Randy
  20. One more thing where is the serial # located on the engine? I would like to check which side of the 2nd gear fix I am on.
  21. Thanks to all for the great help. I looked for signs of blow by and there is none that was good news. So I borrowed a leakdown tester set the #2 cylinder at TBC on the compression stroke added air pressure. Air was gushing out the exhaust valve. So I meed to check the valve clearence and should be good to go. When I did my compression test with some oil in the cylinder there must have been enough there to seal some around the valve to bring the compression up and fool me into thinking it was the rings. Again thanks Randy
  22. Hi Jack, I have 3 good used ones I could mail one out tomorrow. Let me know. Randy
  23. When I bought the bike I rode it home 45 miles. The seller said he rode it daily, but the fork seals were leaking there were parts missing. The #1 carb's float was not working and dumping fuel down the throat into the cylinder. Since I have fixed all the obvious problems cleaned and synced carbs, replaced fork seals and other missing things. I put 3000 miles on it. I ran sea foam in the oil for about the last 300 miles before I changed the oil. The carbs were really gummed up so I think the bike had sat for a long time. I am going to try sea foam down the spark plug hole and let it sit for a while. I am open to any suggestions. Even with a weak cylinder this bike flies. I think it would be a blast with the motor at 100%. One other thing is the bike has a slight buzz vibration between 3500 and 4000 rpm smooth before and after. Is that normal for these bikes?
