The knuckle behind the stator cover goes in the up position or it will shift backwards and it can also crack the cover.

It's good to remember others from days gone by. Good to know he made it home.

Seeing as you already have 14 lookers and no repliers, May I try my hand at a solution? I am not really all that familiar with a 2nd gen so am playing a bit of a guessing game here. Get your self a welder, weld a new bolt on the end of the one you are showing, and iffin you did a good enough job then tightening should be a piece of cake. You could also bring it over here, presently we have lots of leftover 1st gen parts that might make things go faster. 1st gens don't have that problem eh!

HELP. Idle poping and coughing
Marcarl replied to Rilcoat's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I'm going out on a limb here to say that the sync is still out. If you are having the issues you stated then one of 2 things would be the cause, but I am just thinking fro here, and that isn't anywhere's near your place. First, there is an air leak below the buuterflies. Two, you are turning on the wrong screws at the wrong time. First set # 2 to #1 , so the left side of the engine as you sit on the bike. Keep the idle around 950. Then adjust the right (as you sit on the bike) side of the bike, so that 3 and 4 match each other and the match on 1 and 2 hasn't changed. Then match the right side to the left side. If done correctly and there are no leaks there should be no change. As you adjust the sync, blip the throttle to get the linkage between then to seat properly. Also, if the throttle linkage is dirty, rusted or otherwise impaired, that could also cause some issues. When you are doing a sync, all you are doing is adjusting the opening of the butterflies or throttle plates. Maybe this will help. -
Erratic Voltage

I would contact Skydoc, it's not like him to sell something that isn't up to the task, unless it was a used one, then that might be the cause. -

I had my gas cans, real gas cans, sitting in my garage waiting to do their thing. Come time to use them I will notice the expanded condition that they are in and carefully open them to allow the expanded gases to escape. Plenty of pressure there, I think enough to blow the lid off of some other type of containers. During a some sort of mishap where the bleach type bottle might be impacted and have a separation issue, the internal pressure would do an amazing job of blowing some very volatile substance around the area of concern, maybe ones legs or body, and in turn make things quite hot in the process. I think I would rather take other precautions so not to run out of petrol. Just my opinion of course, but then it's my legs of body that have me thinking this way.

Guess to give to a true answer we would need to know particulars. - are you sure your meter is correct? - what do you have turned on electrical wise? - what happens when you turn everything on that you can? You can do all your testing on the side stand, full charging should happen just over 1500rpm to 2000 rpm.

If my memory serves me correct, is that if the bike is hanging up on decel then the most likely cause is a bad balance between the carbs. Carbs need to be sync'd on the bike and all 4 need to be in line. If one is out, then they are not sync'd. Although there will be some difference if one cylinder isn't firing, it shouldn't make a whole lot of difference to get started with and get things close, seeing as the procedure has to do with the opening of the butterflies only and how much air a particular cylinder sucks in. As a cylinder goes into it's intake stroke it sucks air through the carb and this creates a vacuum below the butterfly, and that is what is being adjusted. If the butterfly is more open, then less vacuum, if the butterfly is closed, higher vacuum. RPMs should be kept in the 950 neighborhood.

Interesting enough I presently have an 86 sitting in my garage because it wouldn't run without choke and wouldn't idle. It now idles and not so bad really, but #4 is not helping out one little bit. It has spark and when fed from the bottle (spray cleaner) there is no reaction, so I have determined it's not fuel. So if it has spark (should have, spark outside is good) and doesn't react to fuel spray there is only ne thing missing,,,, yah the cylinder I know,,, but it has to be compression. So I checked compression and came up with an amazing 60lbs. So I did a 'leak-down' test and found that the exhaust valves were constantly letting out air when the cylinder was pressurized from an air hose. So far the prognosis is that the exhaust valves aren't closing, at least not well enough to make a good seal. The clearance at the cam is a measly .006", not near enough for spec, but enough to allow and tell me the valves should be fully closed. Not onto the next step just yet. Sounds like we may have similar issues,,,,, interesting?!?!

First off,, don't let that Patch guy fool you,, I'm not near as bad as some may have you believe and my posts don't go any longer than what might be desired. Now to your issue. You mentioned that you adjusted the pilot mixture screws, and then you questioned the idle mixture screws that led me to think that you really haven't found the latter yet. Then my mind goes to thinking that maybe somebody was turning on some screws that do other things, like throttle balance. So my question here now is: Have you sync'd the carbs? and if you did, how was that accomplished? I didn't read that you did, but it could be I missed it. If you haven't, then might I suggest to do that first?

Getting the forks exactly to the same length is kind of tricky, a little bit off and you screw up the ride and handling. The spring clips are dead on so you can depend on those to be right, maybe not so much on adhoc measures. Forks are smooth, and not much for any clamp to grab onto and hold through a serious bump or constant bumpering vibration. I would go with the drilling out of the caps and install a valve there. Keep in mind also, that if you bring the forks up through the triple tree you will be lowering the whole bike, which will play with the dynamics of the ride and clearance issues with the front fender, ground clearance with the nose cone, oil in the crankcase, braking on the rear wheel,,,,,,,

Not something I would use, not all plastics are the same. They make special containers for things like gasoline, I'm just not sure what is so special about them, but some research would be beneficial I'm sure, before I'd put myself at risk with a bleach bottle.

Thanks so far. My issue comes with the truck bed rails getting too close to the 5th wheel overhang. Raising and/or adjusting the hitch or pinbox will not change that dimension.

I bought a 2014 Ram 2500 with rear coil springs to pull my 5th trailer. Turns out that the truck is to high to properly level the whole unit for towing. I need to lower the truck, max I can do that is about 2inches. Looked for shorter coils, but they are not available on short notice, guess some would make them on special order but that would take about 6 months. The only solution for me at this point is to cut the coils to lower things the 2 inch that there is room for. Plan to use no heat, keep air moving over the cut as we cut with a disc. Flipped the axle on the trailer, but that was not a good idea, looks like it's on stilts now and is too high. Any experience to learn from? input?

There is a spring clip on the fork that prevents the fork from sliding up any further into the tree. The torque on the clamps of the triple tree is not enough to hold the forks in place, so the spring clip is used. If you remove the clips then the forks will slide higher and if you want to keep them from sliding you'll have to increase the torque on the clamps. Don't have any idea how much.

I didn't do anything to mine either,,,, come to realize I don't have that bike and so don't need to worry about such things. It's nice to have a Spyder.!.! And it was time to add to my post count??? -

Kevin is probably more right than me, although with my failing memory I do seem to see in my mind's eye that there was one just behind the seat. Like I said, Kevin is smart!
