The fork tubes are held in the triple tree by 2 'clamps, and a ciriclip. You would have to eliminate the ciriclip for the tubes to slide higher into the triple tree. Not a real good idea as the 'clamps' are only designed to hold the tubes in place, but not to prevent them from sliding up. What might work is to shorten the springs inside the fork tubes, but then you would have to deal with other issues such as amount of travel for the shock effect, spring rate, oil capacity, fork rake and who knows what else. Wearing a thicker soled shoe and lowering the seat might be better options.

Can't remember seeing you there Ronnie, but I might have left something there, if I only could remember where there is.

So Marcarl now suggests to warm the engine, remove air cleaner and inner tower, and then spray a bit of cleaner into each intake. If the front 2 respond with better running, then I would look for a fuel issue. Just for kicks, squirt a bit into each of the rears and see what response you get from that exercise.

What happened shows your love and concern for your fellows. Thanks for giving us the story, it might help somebody else down the road.

If the rear shock holds air, it should be good, not often that we hear of a rear going bad on a 1st gen. For your head light, be careful on what you get, not all LEDs work well. Some of us have found the Silver Star halogen to be the best going. If you want more light up front, and nobody will argue with that, get some good driving lights, ask @Jayceesfolly, I know he is very happy with his, and so is @saddlebum. Also, if you either paint or use some foil tape in the tunnel in front of your headlight, it helps some. That black tunnel absorbs a lot of light rays. Keep asking those questions, it keeps us oldtimers on our toes and helps the brain to function.

I bet Walmart would be happy to cover your costs, and become the best of friends in the process. Lots better than Eichenberg Chyrsler I think.

Not really a safe way to do this bro. Best off to ship your mattress and have it returned to a different address so it can be quarantined for 3 days. Give them my address and I can store it for that length of time.

Absolutely not!!! very essential in fact. Otherwise those cheapskates would not have put it on. -
Off Road adventure, on a first gen Venture (advice?)
Marcarl replied to Ipleedthe5th's topic in Watering Hole
My thoughts are with you. Done a bit of that type of riding,,,, trail looks good, maybe even passable, and then it goes to,,,OOOoh sh*t!!!! but we carry on. Can the Venture do it?? There is enough power for sure,,, maybe too much, and gearing helps a lot. But just as you exit that spot of impossibility and clap yourself on the back,,,, over she goes because of a 'small' imperfection on the surface of mother earth. It's grand though, going through what seems to be impossible, but also as I mentioned, dangerous!! One little rock in the wrong place or one little pot hole and the whole business is laying on top of the one who is normally on top and now cushioning the machine that couldn't care less. One thing to keep in mind as well,,, ground clearance is nil!!!! -
Throttle Cable 4
Marcarl replied to friendrobert's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
That would be a return stop so that the cables can only return so far and no further. It provides the stop you feel at the throttle grip when the grip returns to idle and so provides a home-base if you will. -
Fried some electrical

Using a multi meter or a test light, discover where you have power starting at the battery and working on from there. It could be a fuse, or it could be a connector at the battery even. -
Somehow that makes just a little bit of sense.

If you're going to use the visgrip trick, put the grips on as explained, as tight as possible, then open them up, turn a wee bit on the setting of the grip, squeeze again, and repeat. Doing this 4 or five times will give a better bite on the piece involved.

My dealings with a local dealer: So I thought I was in need of a newer truck, my 1500 Ram was good but I was thinking 2500 for an upgrade. I went looking and finally ended up at Eichenberg Chrysler in Tillsonburg Ontario. June 28th was the day I test drove and bought it with $500 down. July 22nd was the day that @saddlebum and I went to pick it up. That was also the day that my son asked if the dog hair in the back seat fold-down floor came as no extra charge, and shortly after that we noticed that there was lots of field dust still in the vents, lower door panels, dash board, door posts and under the hood. I sent a text to the salesman and asked if they detailed a truck when they sold it, or did they just clean it. He said: We detail which is cleaning and any other items our manager feels is warranted. He also offered to redo the cleaning if I were to bring it back to him, so I sent him some pictures. He said he didn't think it was all that serious, and that he had looked it over before delivery and that it looked good to him, and after all, he had run the detail dept for sometime so knew what he was talking about. That's when the wheels fell off: We proceeded to look closer at other things like the rear rotors that were billed as being machined with deep scour marks and pad marks still visible and under the hood it looked like somebody had thought a cleaning was necessary but then halfway through thought the better of the first thought and so left it messy. Really!!!! I must be from a different planet, but I used to think that if a feller spent 40K on a vehicle it would be all up to snuff, but I think they had to much snuff and put the leftovers all in my truck. Next day,, off to MY mechanic who had no problem finding a loose ball joint, bad wipers and we found a dirty air filter. We replaced the ball joint, I bought and installed heated wipers and replaced the air filter as well. Then I sent a note off to the boss of the dealership on July 10th with pictures. I gave him some time to reply, you never know if folks are taking time off and not available, so on July 22nd and the 23rd and again on Aug 04th I sent repeat emails. No reply until Aug 15th. Maybe he takes long afternoon naps or maybe he didn't like me so much now that I had paid my 40k, I don't know. What I do know is that he is now on the MTO radar and that the DealerRater rating goes live on the 20th. So he emailed me to see if there was something that he could do, seeing as I seem to have an issue or issues. We're having a long interesting discussion. I feel like posting all those emails here, makes for interesting reading. Just another note, and I have never had this happen to me before: When Bum and I went to pickup the truck it was all ready sitting at the front, the salesman was right handy and had all the paper work ready to sign and go. We got all that done, he handed me the keys and papers and said it was nice doing business. I climbed in the truck, rolled down my window and said good-bye, put it in reverse and was ready to drive off with him standing there looking as proud as could be. Did you happen to noticed something missing??? No??? well he didn't either, so I asked him if I was good to go and he said yes!! enjoy!!! That's when I asked if I could keep the 42k that was still in my pocket,,,,,, next time!!!!!!!!

Okay,, did done got rid of it. Just remember that if this happens again it will cost you twice as much. -
'Sounds a bit like 2 gears rubbing each other' Maybe you could post a vid with the sound included. That statement can be quite broad and can conjure up all kinds of sound memories. You might also try to stand the bike up-right to see if the sound changes and/or change your brand of oil. Often times I think it's just the gears 'running loose' inside the transmission and kind of rattling against each other when in neutral.
