  1. Now yesterday would have been a perfect day for you to get all those interesting statements discussed, seeing as we had a whole bunch of Venture Riders, and former Venture Riders gathered in one place,,, where were you???
  2. here now,, puc is not called Saddlebum!!!
  3. Don't just solder the ends together. Start with bare, clean wire, shiny copper, remove about an inch of insulation, twist the copper around each other so that they form a new straight through connection, then solder them to keep them in place, after that shrink on the shrink tubing that you should have put on before all the twisting takes place, and as mentioned you'll need Rosin Core Solder, do not use acid core!!

    Lucky Me

Took the Spyder out for a nice ride yesterday so had a chance to feel what the new grip feels like,,,, yes grip, not grips,,well I could not just install half a grip eh!?? What an opportunity,,,, I mean, have you ever had the privilege to ride with only one new grip,,,, would you do that really???? well I did,,, and I tell ya,,, I'm gonna do the other one as well,, yes sir!!!! what a nice difference, definitely worth the extra cash,,,, well not double the extra but worth it anyways.
  5. Looks like you might have make this a two weekend deal Don,, why with all the extras showing to get a head start. Best not to tell Cowpuc about today's adventures.
  6. Probably just as far as it was last night, but if he would have paced in one direction it could have been closer.
  7. Well now, that is exactly the reason we have MarCarl's VentureIn before MD,,,, what's with you man,, it ain't that far away and we would even let you cook!!
  8. You didn't wash it did you???? Purdy!!!
  9. Just kind of glad that I wasn't behind that mirror when you walked by.....
  10. Sounds like either a connection or the pump,, could be the fuse holder or maybe even the relay. Do one thing at a time,, first the fuse box\holder, take the fuse out and see if the legs of the holder are solid. If that won't cure it, check your connections, clean them while you're at it. After that, post back with your findings.

    Lucky Me

Yep,,, lucky because I got a wonderful sized nose,,,, note: I didn't say anything else but: wonderful size!!! Yep, got to pay through the nose on this one,,, the story: Handle grips on the Spyder are not on the large side, kind of small to my liking actually,,, so it's taken this Dutchman about 2 months to make up his mind to spend the $130 to get the ISO grips for a better feel. The ones recommended by the Spyder site are the ones made for a GL1800 with heated grips, and mine are heated, so that part works out well. The ISO grips are a little longer than the OEM on the Spyder so an insert has to be made up to fill in the last inch or so. Instructions come with the grips as well as instructions on modifications needed on the Spyder site. So I spent the money, got the grips and figured about half hour to install,,, well that was close, for the first round. They didn't fit just quite the way I was hoping they would and so after some deliberation and calculating, off they came. Now these are not your normal slide on grips,,, no sir,, they're special as would befit a Spyder,,, I mean, everything on this beast is SPECIAL,, not to be mistaken for being on special which it for sure is not. These are a clam shell type, look much the same as the regular ones, but come in 2 halves screwed together. They install over the OEM grips,, quite neat actually. Anyways, once I had them off Wizard shows up and the whole story starts all over new. I had to explain every little detail to him so that he could be as knowledgeable as I am,, hey, he doesn't want to left behind EH? So now with the two of us, we figure it all out and install the grips,, for time # 2. Not so good yet, as this time they won't mate and stay mated together. Now to figure that one out, so off they come again, lucky they are screwed together, so we can screw them apart. Can you imagine if they weren't screwed together,, as to how we would ever screw them apart? On with the story,, I want to go to bed. SO!! we have them on the bench, figure out that they made of some kind of metal, bend them a bit and find that now they mate well, I like it when mating goes well!!!! Time for a break, so we have supper so nicely prepared by my wife. After the eating was accomplished we decided there was nothing better to shake down the food, but to go for a ride,,,, so off we go, and the ISO grips were nicely left on the workbench. I sure hope you guys can read faster than I type for this is getting a little long. After about a 2 hour ride, we are back, check out the grips, decide on a course of action and celebrate with a dish of Kawartha IceCream. Wizard goes home and I go to bed, never mind the mating of halves,, that would happen tomorrow,,well today! This morning I had other things to do, so first thing after my nooner I go to install my new grips,, I want to see what they feel like,,,, well wouldn't you? Throttle side went well, they fit and the problems were solved,, so onto the left side. Made the proper spacer, turned down the collar on the OEM grip, soaped up the original, slid on the rubber component of the IOS grip and then went to install the chrome part over the rubber piece. Well I easily enough found the one half, but the other half was being elusive. No where could I locate the second half, and seeing as the one piece was only half it stands to reason that there would be another part which would also be half and therefore the two together would make a hole. Was not to be, even asked my dear wife to stop the preparations for the weekend to come and take a look to see what she could see,,, but nothing did she see either. Now it was time to contact the Wizard for he would for sure know,,, remember, I edumacated him yesterday even!! Alas, no help there either, he must have lost all the important info on his way home,,, well it was kind of cool, so he'll be excused this time. I scratched my head until I was done doing that, and hopefully came up with the answer to the puzzle. Today was garbage day, and this morning I gathered all the garbage that I could find, stuffed it in a bag and set it out to be hauled off to the dump, including the packaging for the new grips. I figure the missing half was deeply involved in filling up the landfill site,,,, so now what????? Back to the parts dept, lay heavy on my sob story,,, everybody feeling for me, but nobody could quite reach me,,,normal isn't it. They were going to call Kuryakyn to see if they would have an extra,, but seeing as there time constraints I decided to spring for another set,,,,,, OUCH, these grips are now not even on special,,,,,,, they cost me two legs and now I can go bummin' around,,,,, and yes I did pay through the nose,,,eh? Lesson learned,,, don't take out the garbage!!!!
  12. They may have lee-eck-trie-city, but do they knows what to dos wit it???
  13. So for you then that would be $10.25, plus the added extra expense of having to put up with you. You can send it to me and I will make sure that there is enough, and then I will deliver it personally to FreeBird,, less the security fee, and the delivery, and the border fee,,,,, on second thought, just send me $30 and that will most likely cover it.
  14. Guess I'll have to bring some yankee money with then,,,, But Don wouldn't say how much this costs all together, but I will,,,,(I love getting my nose into things),,,, figure the cost would work out to about $20 each person,,, and that's no lie, maybe even a bit on the cheap side. Now let's not get into a discussion about this and screw up the thread, just take it for info and leave it alone,,, thanks, Carl
  15. So should I read abnormally or a a a a ab ab ab ab nor nor nor nor mmmmaaallll a a a a a a ab ab ab ab abnorm abnorm,,,,oh forget it, I can't studder that good anymore.
  16. Sent the link to both you guys. I uploaded the file to a FF box account. Clicking on the link should work.
  17. Wishing the best for you Rick,,, some of life's little bumps in the road are sent to help us,,, sometimes we don't know why, but later we can see the light. Heal quick and well.
  18. Do you studder normally?
  19. Glad you are going to be in NY,,,, otherwise how could I continue with the training program.
  20. Let us know how it all turned out.
  21. Glad I don't have a GW, only 1.5 hours on Spyder to do an oil change and I already have screens built in. Nice thing about these animals is that the recommend oil change comes only once in 15,000km... can live with that!
  22. Congrats buddy,,, best get some rest while it's still available,, you gonna be busy, I can tell. Daaaaad,,,, can you?????,,,,,,,, Daaadd what are you doing tomorrow?????? Hey Dad, what are you two doing on the weekend??? and then,,,, OOOPaa, can you come over and play with me??? Oppaaa, can we come over??? Yep, best get some rest!!
  23. I did a search for that question last week. I didn't want to be all by myself, and somewhat discovered that most who posted are staying at the Quality Inn in Elyria. Some are staying elsewhere, and a whole bunch are camping in the snoring section.
  24. The rooster will be staying at the Quality Inn in Elyria. If he crows too early and I wake up from all his noise I will retaliate and come to make sure the noise gets to it's intended destination. So be prepared to have an early breakfast,,,,,,, and,,,,,, if you think that catching me after ALL of you are awake,,,,, well Tri-pod has been known to be kind of fast, so you'd best have your sneakers ready.
  25. Most years at MD there is a lot going on, clutches are being rebuilt, carbs are synced, wiring is figured out, polishing is being discussed, lights are added and replaced, pin striping is being oggled, tires are changed and balanced, brakes are renewed, and occasionally carbs are cleaned and the mosquitoes are being harassed. I do not remember a time when horns were being tested, so I think that might be a good thing to add into the mix this year. Funny thing about those noise makers though, to get the best results it's best that there be no other interference, like people talking, guys revving their bikes, talking, and shooting of BS,,,, you get the picture. It's also a well know fact the noise is better heard in the dark and carries further when there is little wind, so maybe we best set a time for such maintenance. I'm thinking that the best and right time for this exercise would be about 4:30 in the morning. Maybe I could show up to get things started. No need to thanks me for this idea, it was Cowpuc who got my brain started. What time is breakfast????
