Thanks guys,,, but enough already,,, Dave wasn't perfectly honest,,,,,,so the rest of the story. Dave said his fuel pump wasn't working and he had to hammer it (well I can exaggerate) to make it go. He had bought new points but was leery about the install, didn't like soldering. I offered to help,,, ya right,I had ask where the pump was located, no biggie there, somebody told me. Should be easy enough to get out with a decent size banger and long pry bar. So he shows up Monday eve after work and I set to work,,, uhhh learning about fuel pumps. Got the little sucker out without too much cussing and got it up on the bench,,, so far so good,,,,darn, and he is still watching,,, doesn't he ever have to go pee or something???? well never mind, we carry on, tear the lid off this baby, and low and behold as mentioned in the thread, there is a set of points all burnt to rat stuff. I check to make sure that the new set matches the old set,,, got to look professional you know,,, they seemed to look similar, so the install went as planned,,, almost,,,, a little wee bit of solder managed to make it to a place of ill repute and so when I plugged the pump into the scoot it immediately blew a fuse,,, not a good omen,,,, gosh, now I have to find the fuse box,, another lesson for the old man I'm learning things here, almost like going to school. Well to keep along story longer, I found the solder, fixed that and then before blowing another fuse ($1 ea, and I'm Dutch) I thought I would bench test this doodad. Another lesson in the making,,, there is a positive and a negative wire to these pumps and never the twain should interchange. Really,,, ya really,,, just for good measure we tried it with another one (Brad's) and sure enough, it did the same thing,,, kicked the bucket!! That's 2 out of 2,,, not a good average! So I felt kind of responsible for having Dave put out,,, first sending him home without a fuel pump and then having him get stuck on the way back. He now has a nice working fuel pump that still needs to be located better, but it works. It cost him the points and a deal with BradT and he's happy, and I had something to do yesterday,,, and oh Ya,, I think I learned something,,,can't remember what that was now, but it will come to me in the long term I think.

Something that the Nigerians have no thought of, and couldn't possibly know, is the actual act of reverting. It's not very well defined in the English dictionary,, if it can be found at all, but can be found in the Dutch\English version of what is called a dictionary. In my edition as well as maybe some others, revert indicates a swamping or wetting action. Not sure just how easy this is to accomplish, but to have a body of water close handy would definitely be of a bonus to those involved in reverting. As I dug into this somewhat deeper, it seems that the practise comes from late in the middle ages when it was more normally known as dunking. As you may also be aware, or on the other hand be totally oblivious of the fact, the upcoming events on the forthcoming weekend present at least one of the required components that are needed for a reverting action to take place, that being water. Whether or not then, this dunking of a revertee(another one of the components) will actually happen, will be a sight to be seen. Don't hold your breath though, only time will tell. As such it could be an interesting sight.

Check your fuel filter and make sure your petcock is all the way open. Sounds like it could be fuel supply.

Don't want to throw a damper on this Dingy, but do they have inside room in case it rains?? -
Ok, so now he knows about #32 as well,,,, oooppps!!! lucky I mentioned the numbers eh?

The stator will put out lot more than 17v, but at 17v you would fry the battery. The RR (regulator, rectifier) job is to change AC to DC and then to limit the voltage and govern the amperage. So if it goes, it can be lots of fun.... too much voltage plays havoc with light bulbs and anything else electrical. Our systems can handles about 15 v max, more than that real and possibly expensive problems can crop up.

What's your problem,, I thought we had discussed this at length Hooning is snoring isn't it???
-
In your case,,,, your right,,,,, you see, it all depends on who you're spending the night with

Just a reminder,,,, that in all your rush you remember to pack your passport,,, I know of one instance were somebody failed to remember, and had to go back to get it,,, then things can get worse,,, you can get lost after that,,, but the good thing about it is,,,,,,,, your buddies won't abandon you,,,, just leave you behind:rotf:

Could be the stator, or the regulator,, or a battery connection. Start by charging the battery to a full charge. Check the voltage on the battery post as well as the wire, they should be the same, more than 12.5 volts. Start the bike, rev it up to about 1500rpm, The voltage should now read about 14v, both the posts and the wires should read the same. If you don't have around 14v there now, most likely you have a stator issue. Could be the regulator as well but that is not common.

Connected between #32 (in the joint of the cooling system under the right side cover, 3 hoses together there on same joint) and cover # 37 which lays between the 2 cylinder banks.

Marcarl replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
It seems you don't know me very well bro,,,, I don't wear t-shirts,,,,,for if I did I would never get anything done,,,,, hugs, photo ops, combing my hair,,, yes I have hair,,, and on and on...... Ya,, thinking I should rent something for this coming weekend,, maybe a Harley,,, lately there has been a change, and I wish I could ride a bit more rather than being the celebrity on the block,,, it's nice at first, but after the first round they all come back for more,,,,, guess it's just my style!!! -
Obviously he had the same problem,,, hey,, you're still a good looking chick,,, never mind his comments!!
-
Oh ya,, good lookin boat as well,,, where did you say you park it??
-
It's lake Erie that they're on, Puc,,, there's no roads on that lake and no ditches, all the poles froze off last year and the trees got move to the land side. Makes it safer for some people!,,,,,,, and it's always good to watch your back trail so that you can tell if you're actually going somewhere,,, something you learn on a Harley I guess.
-
Nice bike,, nice photos good job!!!

Marcarl replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
You be careful now Puc,,, that there lady do give good hugs but sometimes can't let go,,,,, 'course that could have just been my effect on her,,, but be careful, you just never know!! -
Just so you are aware,, dielectric grease does not conduct electricity, and greases up the connection so that re-soldering is out of the question. Now if you twist the wires as suggested you wouldn't de-solder them anyways, but grease does tend to migrate up the wire. Now that same grease will keep out the moisture and that is good.
-
Maybe then I should make my own way there seeing as Spyder may a problem staying far behind you,, I tell ya, that thing wants to just go,,,,, and if I'm anywhere in the area other Harley's might even construe up the idea that we might know each other and then you would be in the HD black list,,,, and we couldn't have that happen,,,, so Spydie will be lonesome once again. Maybe Dingy will ride with me???

Got to bring this one back to the top,,, the Rooster lost it for some reason I will be leaving home @7:30 am,,, hopefully I'll be awake by that time.
