more fork seal shennanigans
Marcarl replied to Max's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Before putting the dust seal back on, squirt a wee bit of Fluid Film onto the washer, should stop any future rusting and will not hurt any of the components. So whereabouts are you in Ontario,, maybe get you some company if desired. -
Introductions & questions
Marcarl replied to Gunny's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
All that has been said is excellent info, keep in mind also that it's a good thing to keep the rpm above 3000 for a good power band, i think you'll find a bit of a difference so it will need a good cleaning and going over if it's not missing then maybe you have poor fuel delivery give it a good going over and be happy -

Try a bit of oil in the lever bearing, but not on the master piston -

Ya my thoughts exactly a couple of years ago,,,, but then I closed my brain, (never mind your comments Ben) and bought one anyways. Bought the RT, which is the real 2 people touring model. Had to ride it now that this Dutchman spent the money. Put on a couple of thousand km before I somewhat got the hang of it. After 12k I wouldn't trade it back again. Nothing wrong with my legs or the ability to hold a 2 wheeler up, and sometimes I look at a Venture and have a yearning,,, until I get back on the Spyder, and then I forget all about those two wheels. Not an ideal machine for long legged folks though, although the F3 does address those issues but they don't have a touring model in the F3 yet.

Oil Warning Light
Marcarl replied to Midicat's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
It's an oil level warning light,,,,which doesn't mean that you are out of oil but that the level is getting to the point that if it goes any lower there could be an issue. As long as it doesn't stay on you should be good to go. Usually when that happened on my 85, I would be sure to check the oil level at the next fuel stop to verify. There is no indicator for oil pressure or anything else to indicate that you have any oil in the oil system, so if your pump should not be pumping oil, you wouldn't know, until something started screaming. Some guys have added an oil pressure sensor so that problem could be observed, but my understanding is that the oil pressure is so little at idle that it would scare the bejeebers out of you each time you came to a stop. -
OK Hugger,,, I'm here,, finally,,, both barrels loaded!!!!!! 12 gauge and cocked!!! Patmac: You asked the question, you seem to have a feeling that you aren't so happy with,,, so,,, wave and get rid of the feeling,,, now you can be happy. Brenner: Spyder riders are the most friendliest bunch of folks on the road. Initially we waved at everybody,,,, mostly because we couldn't figure out who rode what and what belonging really meant. We wrongly thought that a bike and a trike were all the same,, but the new translation seems to say that in order to be classified as a trike there needs to be 2 wheels on the back,, so Spyder riders were out of luck so to speak, because if we put another wheel on the back it would now be a 4 wheeler,,, and we would be soooo different. During the short time that us ryders of REAL bikes,, lol,,, have been available to wave to, there are a few that have not figured out yet that we are actually riders,,, not drivers, but riders. So very often we would bless others by the wave of our left appendage and receive nothing in return. Therefore being somewhat new to this way of life, we took it to mean that it wasn't proper to reach out to the under-privileged,,those having only 2 wheels to ride on. It seems though, that we were a bit hurried in our assumptions, and that it doesn't really matter whether there are 2 wheels on the front end, or 2 wheels on the trailing part,,, a trike has 3 wheels and therefore the odd creation called Spyder is in fact a trike, and so deserves the designation of Trike, and that of course would mean that Spyder Ryders need to be waved at. Now that may have been established by the higher-ups, but takes a bit to get to the rank and file. So keep waving at those Spyder guys Brennner, sooner or later we'll park that machine long enough so that together we can have conversation and explain that it's a limit on available production that has only a select few riding these machines at present,, but as time goes on and production increases, everybody will be able to have their very own Spyder on the road. When that happens, there won't be any more worries on the part of 2 wheelers,,, whether to wave or not to wave,,,, even The Brand will succumb and have their very own edition,,,,, oooooo that will be fun!!!

Yammer didn't say he couldn't catch him,,, he just said 'hard',,,,,, 'course he was speaking for most everybody here,,, almost everybody.

The higher the mount the better the light distribution, and lower down you also hide the lights for daytime runners. Looks cool down low, but not as effective.

Haven't had anything broke that I can think of,,, and it don't sound like I want to anytime soon either. Keeping you in out prayers,,, heal soon!!!

Looking forward to you coming north,,,, winter is an awesome time here,,,, they even bring in special orders of that white stuff just to make everything look clean,,,,, February would be best,,, and oh,, it's not so hot here then either. Let us know when you get close,, we'll gather!

Will be asking for His intervention. May you rely on His promises and safe keeping. Keep us posted!

Seems I recognize him,,, yep I met him real personal like, even gave him a hug,,,,,,bit of a varmit I agree,,, most of us wouldn't recognize him because most of the pictures of him have him with a beard and I noticed he is going incognito,,, he cut it off. Put a beard on him and you'll see who he is, instantly. Tell ya, those old goats will try anything to get with the crowd. Looks like he not only likes 1st gens, but owns one as well,,,, has that owner look about him he does.

Hey Brenner,, you is not so very far away,,, only in Welland eh???? you and that Dogman guy should get together and join us on a Wednesday night ride (not this week though, we is gone). HEY!!! we can show you how to group ride!!! yes sir, we love to have you join us, and when we break up and go home, you could be closer to your place than I'm to mine. We ride perfectly, do everything right. Ok enough BS. but you would be welcome to join us and find out how this group rides,,, we'd like it and so might you. If we don't like what we're doing, we change, so that we do like it. We have nothing to prove (other than the fact that the Spyder is fast!!!) but go out to enjoy the country side and sample ice-cream........ oh the lake is calling already,,, and Grand Island BBQ,,,, and then the river on the way home,,,, nice ride planned already,,, that was easy!!!

Got me all thinking and then maybe helping. 1) groups are not to be more than 10,, less would be nicer. 2) road captain and tailgunner must have communications. They have work to do and can't fall asleep. Don't want to work,,, don't be either!!! 3) forget the speed limit,, ride with traffic. If you can't ride that fast, pick another road. You may be able to go slower, but if you're holding up any traffic you're asking for trouble. 4) Don't,,, repeat, don't make room for a cage to pass you in your lane. It may seem to be a nice thing to do, but what if all of a sudden there is oncoming traffic???? they will take you out in a heartbeat. 5) Don't slow down for cops,,, they're there to protect you and if you slow down and bunch up traffic behind you, there is a good chance you'll get an award for doing so. 6) If you're going to group ride, watch the traffic. when nobody, yes nobody is around, take up 5 miles if you like, but if there is traffic stay together,,, 2 seconds behind the bike in front of you. Any further than that and you become a new group with you as the RC. 7) ride staggered, with the RC and TG in the same track. This is to protect the group, define the group and make sure that everybody is where they belong. 8) Use right lane when feasible, but when on-ramps get busy, get away from that problem area, maybe shuffle on over to the left and pickup some speed. 9) everybody rides their own ride,,, nobody is stuck with the group. If you don't like what the group is doing, get out. Your mind is no longer on riding safe as a group, but you are now getting ticked about others and the self focus is gone, and remember, if you back off and leave too much room you are now your own group anyways. 10) when on a 4 lane, ride staggered, when on country roads with no traffic, ride single if the RC allows. Enjoy the ride whenever possible. 11) take a break every hour to hour and half. It can get mesmerizing riding steady at a given pace. Play it safe and give time for camaraderie. Also helps to get the mind back to riding rather than how sore the butt is, or the stiffness of the legs, or 'I got to go P' syndrome. 12) everybody starts with a full tank,,, full tank! 13) lastly or maybe this should have been firstly,,,, you're riding in a group, be a group. Groups do things together, care for each other and others, and if there are too many, it's no longer a group but a congregation, and in a congregation there are too many opposing opinions to work together smoothly as a group should. 10 riders max!!! if there are 11, it's 2 groups, 5 and 6. Ride safe, enjoy!

Most of the time I seen Bobbie laying down,,,, ticked me off a bit because it was my afternoon nap time and here it looked like he was getting his in,,,,,, Becky was nice though,, she said that when she was done cleaning the gazebo I could relax in there with her keeping an eye on things. I then thought about what might be said or reported on the site here,,,, then I thought about some story teller and all at once I was back to doing what I set out to do,,,, screwing up Bob's trike!!!! Did I say that???

Oh,, so you're back are you??? thought I could squeeze this in without your assistance. But I will answer you questions seeing as you so nicely asked. 1) Can't send her on just yet, I made a vow and vows are made to keep. There have been clouds, but they always bring the rain and make way for sunny days so the crops can grow. Anyways, she's a keeper, and we are together!! We may not have it all together, but together we have it all. 2) I have found Marca to be a wonderful student, and she has a great memory. She always knows who did it when something goes wrong and knows who has the right information. Just ask her sometime who has the brains, and she'll be sure to tell you. hope she doesn't mention me. 3) Just in case you haven't found this out yet,,,,,,, there is more to this boy than just good looks, but as far as looks are concerned I often get asked why I have a beard,,, I tell them that I try to cover up as much as I can so others won't feel so bad about themselves,,,, it's hard to be humble!!! And yes the haircut was a good one, but she also had glasses at that time, but didn't wear them often. Any more questions???? Answers are always available, but I'm off on Tuesdays,,,, Marca goes swimming,,,, and Thursday afternoons because then she out shopping, but for the rest of the time I can usually ask.

I've used Rain Away, from No Touch. Has to go on wet, so mostly I use Mother's wax,, works good.

Ya Eck is kind of real,,, I've laid eyes on him once or times two. He does ride a wing and those things are kind of quiet,,, have to take a second look to make sure there is one there,,, or park it right out front so people trip over it. I've also noticed that it does take some time to keep them in sight, 'course that's why a Venture has a brake pedal, otherwise those pokes would never get to eat any ice-cream.

Joined early on in 06,,, had bought my Venture in the spring of 05 and needed some advice,,, ran into this bunch and convinced Marca that we needed to put on a M&G,,, so had to become a member to post,,,, bummer!!!! but hey,, it was free!!!!! so good news for a Dutchman,, we'll take it!!!! Just needed to know if folks on here were actually real,,,, ya Puc,, you weren't the only one. Had only a little bit of trouble at that first M&G,,, didn't expect soooo many bikes, but solved the issue and it's been good ever since.
