83 coil pack
Marcarl replied to tufftom4's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
To replace the coils you'll need to take off the faring, but there are other things that might be your problem so check them first. Could be the ignition wires are shot, not inserted properly or the TCI might not be giving the right signals. Ignition wires can be changed,, all done form the front,, but you'll need small hands and a good dose of patience, remove the front ones, then do the back ones and then finish the front ones,, can be done. If the wires check out, the the TCI might be the culprit, and it's located under the battery box. You could try just cleaning the terminals and that might just do it, or you might have to remove the TCI, open it to check it's condition and if it's just wet, dry it and try it, but if it's corroded it will need to be replaced and then can be relocated to on top of the air box. -
It could be some dirt stuck in the valve, so first try to drain the bowl and then let the pump refill it to flush it,,, might work and only takes a little time. If that don't do it, drain the bowl again but this time remove the input line to that carb and shot some carb cleaner into the carb, let it sit for a bit and then flush as you did the first time. If there is still an issue, you'll have to remove the carb. To remove the needle and seat. Remove the staking as best as possible, small screwdriver usually works, drill a small hole through the cap being careful not to go too deep. Get a screw that threads nicely into the hole and long enough that will go through a socket that you will cover the cap with. With a washer under the head of the screw put the screw through the socket and turn it into the hole in the cap (measure to make sure the screw is not too long, just long enough to get into the cap is all you need). As you turn the screw it will lift the cap from the carb. Now carefully remove the screen, it has a plastic collar that holds it onto the seat, and now you can pull the seat out in the same manner as the cap.

I have some preliminary thoughts. Don and I have to get together to hash things over and that is starting to be a problem. My Mother-in-Law is taking up some free time right at the moment,, bad leg after a fall, so lots of trips to get her from here to there. When we do get together, I propose some of the following for discussion. 4-5 day event. Central place to sleep and gather, hopefully a resort that can handle a few outlandish campers. Location to be determined but should be in the Muskoka, Haliburton, Kawartha region. No prizes, no raffles, and everybody gets to make their own shirt. All meals would be self 'serve' when and where you want. There should be an eating place close by. There would be a grand meal for a total get-together. No planned rides, but lots of destinations and things to see and do. Rides would be mapped on GPS for convenience. The place to be chosen should be comfortable, dry in case it rains, cool if it's too hot and large enough not to be too small. I thinking costs will be around the $110 per night mark, plus meals and such. Each pays their own costs as used or consumed. Only extra cost would be the t-shirt thing or something else that might want to be done. just my thoughts for perusing.

And don't shake your head or ask,,, Bobby started it, Prairiehammer pushed it, and Rockin Robin got the thoughts going.

Bobby is only posting for the Canadians,,,, north of the border we quit work about 9 or so and then enjoy the evening, we're not old until well after the 80's. I hope it gets hot enough for sex, it's almost there today!:happy65:gonna try a homemade mudslide first though.

Marca & I plan to leave home shortly after lunch on Thursday, will ride through the Penninsula, skip Buffalo and be at Chaffee sometime after before we get there. We're staying at Ben's, stirring the pot as soon as possible. Should be cool, lodging next door to an Icelander.

Questions about '83 Venture
Marcarl replied to Richie C's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I see you found out how to sign up properly,,, good step in the right direction. Don't blame anybody too much for broken tabs,,, you'll find more I'm sure, so best to get good at making new ones,, then you can be an expert. Carbs will suck in oil from an overfilled crankcase, so expect to re-live that. Good thought on the fuse box, a must do for sure. Second gear will probably need a fix, so while you're at it, pull the swing arm, and the rear wheel and do the service there. Brake work much better with stainless lines, so give that some thought. The front forks do well with a set of progressives, so there is another thing to keep you entertained. Anything else you need to know,,,,, just ask. -
That's one reason why I like it north of the border,,,, you guys are weird!
-
Hey,,, even in the far north we have some dohdohs,, but mostly I can convince one or two of them that I am a citizen and in need of help,,, specifically, their help. I then ask some real easy question or two to get the path smoothed out and mostly we're away to the races....... not so when I have an issue with Ma Bell,,,,, that's where the bell really can get ringing,,,,, do you realize that they have no superiors??? yep the one answering must be the boss, and knows everything and just so I understand there is more that they know,, yes, not just everything, but more, and if I don't behave they will have to disconnect, don't you know,,,, I let them, then call back to the complaints dept and they are impressed that I actually have the employee name and number. After that it can happen that I get a call from the loyalty dept, and then service and price reflect who's the boss. Our MTO (DMV) in Paris is awesome, know their business, have it down pat and don't take no BS,, just because they know what they are doing. A private enterprise, but folks who understand the needs of the people. Not always the friendliest, but business needs to be done so no fooling around,,,,, until I get there, then all 4ell breaks loose,,,,,,

So if Canadians come from Canada And Germans come form Germany. Where do Vikings come from???? Vikeandy???
-
Tat's kind of Germaine isn't it,,,,, ethnic kind of,,, what have you to say about Vikings??

I would be leery to commit to a later date,,, just simply because of the weather,, cold is Ok, wet I can handle, but cold and wet, that can be deadly.

Point of tragic interest,,, THANK GOD no one was injured..
Marcarl replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
Ouch,,, that's like coming right out of the back yard,,, not at all expected,,,, thanksgiving for safety on this one! -
There maybe more things that get in the way,,, maybe not,,,, accommodations may be cheaper,,, let's hear some thoughts. Wouldn't bother me either way I think.
-
Hey Puc and Tippy,, hang in there, the Creator has you in His sights, and we have you covered with prayer. Can't let you go on like this without a fight. Be patient and learn what He is about to teach you in the process. You know it's all about you and Him right? we are just pawns in the works, but also made in His image so that makes us important as well.

S/&t Happens or Maybe this Kharma thing is true
Marcarl replied to stickhandle2's topic in Watering Hole
Good of you to share the story, and glad you two are safe. I really think that Somebody was watching over you. Install a new stem, a metal one with a 90 degree bend in it,, not as important on the front as it is on the rear, but helpful non-the-less. -
When you stroke your card only the last 4 numbers appear, not the whole number, nor the 3 numbers on the back.

There are 2 electrical connections for the unit. Hook only the pump connection together, red and black wire to see if it runs,, maybe not, maybe you'll get an error. The air lines run from the pump to the desiccant container then to the valves. Check to make sure the desiccant is clear and no blockage in the hose. Take the valves apart, clean them and make sure the seats are in good shape. A bit of corrosion on the seats will produce your problem. Careful when you pull the valves apart, small springs tend to head south quickly and then hide out of sight.

First thing I did when they were on the balancer, but thanks for the input. Tomorrow will tell the tale I hope.

There is no valve, so you can quit looking. Pressure is all handled but the gizzmo under the trunk, and by the controller on the right side if your key is set in the acc position. Get and wide pan, unscrew the little drain screw at the bottom of the fork an catch the oil as it comes squirting out. Once the oil is out of the one side, insert the screw and do the same for the other side, easiest and quickest, but if your not careful a little messy.

Nobody gets to handle my card,,, not needed, not necessary. Had a case a couple of weeks ago at a motel in Dwight Ontario, at the Riverside Motel that the person behind the desk wanted to copy my number down on a registration slip. She had asked to see my card (mistake #1) which I obliged (Mistake #2) and then she started to copy my number. I immediately asked for my card back, but she was not that quick in responding, so I grabbed it back and went across thee road to the Dwight Village Motel and had a good night. Easy way to loose a $95 sale,, but sailavee.
